Pittsburgh PA - April 26, 2003 - The Stone Revelation

WOW! What a difference a day makes!! We arrived at Mellon arena around 9:30am and were 7th in line. After befriending everyone around us, we determined that we were 3rd in line for our block. After a long wait (some of which was in the rain), we finally got our tickets. 4th Row, Stones side AGAIN! (seat 9, and 10…we were 11 and 12 the night before) We were not happy. We had hoped for Mike's side if we couldn't be in the center. When we arrived at our seats, my chin hit the floor. First the rows were squished in so we were equivalent to 2nd row at other venues, and the seating numbering was opposite that of Gund arena, which meant we were close to the center aisle!!! We quickly changed our tune and were suddenly thrilled with our seats. The people we met in line were no either side of us, so that made it fun too. I have to give huge probs to the San Francisco couple sitting beside us. Not only were they super nice, but the husband who is mad tall, let us stand IN FRONT of him so we could sneak out into the aisle during some songs!! They were amazing to us…Thank you so much J

We had no idea how great our seats would be till later in the show. After all the energy expended the night before and with Ed almost killing himself, we figured we were in for a more subdued setlist. WRONG! Ed came out with a noticeable limp as they opened with Small Town, which was cool, but still not Long Road! It quickly changed to a fast beat though as they launched into Hail! Hail! Then Save You, Corduroy and Insignificance. Mike was his usual ON self for his solo's. At one point he went over to Ed who was having a smoke on the side and leaned his forehead into Ed's chest. Ed rested his chin on Mike's head (it was a really cute moment that I'm glad I snapped a picture of). Matt again got to shine at the end of either Better Man or Daughter, I forget which one, but the star of the night, was none other than Mr. Stone Gossard. Stone was ON FIRE!! He was dancing and jumping, and looking at the crowd 90% of the time. He even made eye contact with me a few times again. He totally busted me taking a picture of him at one point. He just raised his eyebrows as if to say Busted! I just kinda smiled and shrugged. Stone Stole the show at the end of RVM, I kid you not. He launched into this 5-7 minute solo, the likes of which I have never seen him do before. I had no idea Stone was that damn good at lead! WOW! He was so into it that he fell to his knee's while playing, used his hands to mess around with the petals and effects. Then he laid the guitar flat on the stage and solo'd that way too. My chin was on the floor. There is only one word for that…WOW!!!!!! He just went off! Not to be outdone, he ripped off another solo at the end of Porch before throwing his pick into the crowd. It ended up in the row in front of me before getting dropped. I never did find it though. An honorable mention has to go to Ed for his kick ass solo at the end of Better Man. I couldn't get over Stone though. He even cracked a smile a couple of times. Whatever you did between Cleveland and Pittsburgh Stone..KEEP DOING IT!

Although they played longer in Cleveland, Pittsburgh was hands down the best show I've ever seen live. I mean we got the Trilogy!!! I marked when they went into Footsteps. That is another song I've always wanted to see live. A lucky girl in the second row even got Ed's harmonica!! Ohh and Know Your Rights kicked my ass all kinds. WOW what a great cover they did!!! Ed was soo into it!! I had the best view ever tonight!! No tall people in front of me, and seats that were so close!! I could see their feet if the monitors weren't there, my view was soo good. I have to give props to the Mellon arena security for being so patient and cool all night. They didn't bother me for using my own camera, they let my friend and I stand in the aisle and move to the empties across the aisle for a song here and there. I was even lent a flashlight to try and find Stone's pick. They made my concert experience that much better in just letting me enjoy myself and I thank them. My highlights were Mikey smiling and later pointing at me, and Stone making eye contact with me again. I mouthed awesome solo when he looked at me as they were leaving the stage, and he said thank you. This show was awesome!! The band was soo into it. GET THE BOOT!!!
