A great show at a beautiful venue! The lines for tickets and to get in were long and slow moving (but the crowd and staff were very pleasant, it was fun), my friend commented that the show better be a good roller-coaster for all the standing in line we did...and it sure was! A nice flow of hard and soft, rockin' and tender, with a few loop-d-loops to keep it unpredictable. I was surprised (pleasantly) by their choice to open up the set with Of The Girl - awesome rendition. My friend asked if they always start off their sets on a low-key note, but before I could answer they kicked it into high gear with Last Exit, and we rocked pretty hard from then on. Love Boat Captain was beautifully done, and the lighting was a great touch. A crowd sing-along at the end - "All you need is love!" - left me feeling connected to every soul in the theatre, it seemed like we were all on the same page in that moment. A perfect segue into Given to Fly, one of my all-time personal favorites and I wasn't disappointed. Eddie's improv at the end of Wishlist was sweet, and Thumbing My Way was truly tender and just as good as I hoped it would be (it's one of my favorites from this album). Gimme Some Truth was truly timely and a great choice - and Eddie delivered it with an unmatched passion. It was good to hear a lot of older, harder tunes from Ten and Vs!

You Are was funky as could be, and the lighting for that one was awesome too. For me, the defining moment of the entire set was Crazy Mary. One of my favorite songs, beautifully delivered. It was starting to sprinkle a little bit, and I just felt my soul being carried up into the fresh air on the strains of Eddie's voice, with a fine misty drizzle on my face and arms. That moment I felt like the music truly set me free and I could just be in the moment. Boom's solo on the Hammond was killer, and when Mike joined him by the organ to solo with him it was truly a spectacular moment - rock musicianship at its very best. The guys on stage seemed to be enjoying themselves so much, and I felt lucky to be a part of a special moment for them. The way they jammed on that one, I thought for sure that was the end of it. But we were in for more, and I was glad to take it all in! Baba O'Riley was a real treat, and brought a smile to my friend's face (who is a big-time WHO fan)! Again, I thought that was the end, and I think some of the guys did too - but Mike busted into Yellow Ledbetter, and Matt returned to the kit, the other guys looked caught off-guard by what seemed like a last minute addition. Mike was rockin' so hard on so many tunes I can't begin to list them - he's a GOD! Altogether a great concert, and I look forward to the next chance to see them again.

Lovingly,

WOW!!!! That's all I can muster right now 3 hours after getting my mind blown by one of the tightest, intense, beautiful sets I have ever heard the boys lay down in person or on any array of the many bootlegs I have heard over the years. Idlewild opened up with an inspired and ear opening set, very talented Scots with some damn fine tunes. Definitely worth researching. Pearl Jam just took the love the crowd was sending and reciprocated it 1000% back to us and then some. The set list was impeccable just building and building with the band taking all the songs and reworking and altering them to whole new levels. Everyone was loving it and the place was packed till the very end, which went over the curfew and the band covering the overtime costs. At one point Eddie mentioned passing a hat around to cover the costs although he was joking, we would have funded enough for 10 more hours. Just get the bootleg, trust me on this one. I''m out of words. Just simply an amazing night. Endless thanks to Pearl Jam and the Ten Club who compensated me for mediocre seats with some lawn tix for tomorrow's show. You bet your ass I ain't gonna miss it.

Josh:

Last night's set in Irvine was amazing. Probably the best energy for a Monday night show that I've ever seen. The set list was heavy with more songs off of Ten than they have played in a while (there were five). Black sounded great and it was really nice to hear them play Deep and Immortality (rare). There was not a single lull throughout the entire show. Eddie came out to do a solo revamped version of I Am A Patriot at the beginning of the second encore, which was very different than usual, but very cool. After that the rest of the band came back out and Eddie mentioned that they had already passed the venues curfew and would be fined for playing longer. At that point the crowd went nuts and they pressed on for about another 35 minutes. After a very long version of Crazy Mary Eddie told the crowd "that felt like a good $2,000.00" referring to the portion of their fine that song covered. Finally, after Baba O'Riley it looked like that was originally going to be the last song of the night, but Mike grabbed his Strat and gestured to the rest of the band for one more. Eddie put down his lyric book and wine and they finished with a strong version of Yellow Ledbetter. Overall a great show last night. The fact that it was an outdoor venue really made the vibe at the show amazing. Next to SD and Las Vegas!
