Matt:

Just got back from San Diego, and I have to say that it was one of the more powerful shows I have been to. While the Setlist was fairly standard, by the time the band reached the 2nd encore, they were on fire.

Highlights for me were the 2nd and 3rd encores. Blue Red and Grey was very nice to hear, and my first time seeing it live (it followed an especially long rant about Jewel and a singing penis). Then Sonic Reducer, which was completely unexpected, had me bouncing like crazy. That song rocks, plain and simple. Alive, complete with extended Mike solo, finished the 2nd encore.

After the band left, some roadies came out on stage with a folding chair and some type of machine. From my vantage point I couldn't tell what it was, but I knew that the boys weren't done. After a couple of minutes, Ed came out, attempted to get the crowd quiet, put on headphones, and began the first ever performance of ARC. It sounded phenomenal, and was around three minutes long (quite an extension on the album version). His voice was amazing, especially with the layering that he was doing through the machine. After Ed's performance, the rest of the gang came out for a stelar performance of BABA. This was my first time seeing this song live as well, and it did not disappoint. The band was going crazy; Mike doing scissors kicks, Jeff jumping around in circles a'la Pete in the Kids are Allright movie during BABA. As the song came to a climax, the band continued to hammer away at the song, extendeding the outro a bit, then crashing to a finale.

All in all, it was a great show. The amazing 2nd and 3rd encores made up for a somewhat lackluster setlist, and this show now ranks just behind Missoula so far on my journey. Now its on to Vegas!!

Prisci:

Man, oh man. What can I say? The show was a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! Pearl Jam definitely knows how get the energy flowing. They played almost 3 hours I think, I'm not even sure anymore! All I know is they kept coming back for more. The energy in the arena last night was indescribable. So much positive energy and so much love going around. Truly amazing. This was the first time I got tickets through the Ten Club so it was a nice change to be sitting next to other 10C members. The band started things off with Better Man and Do the Evolution and the music just kept getting better and better. My favorite moments included Ed playing Arc; the stadium got so quiet and peaceful and Ed's voice gave me goosebumps. Also, Do the Evolution and Not For You are always one of my favorites and I'm glad I finally got to see them play both of these songs live. They also played Baba O'Reilly!! Fucking amazing. Props to Mike for playing some awe-inspiring guitar solos! A special thanks goes out to the Ten Club who gave me great seats. Thank you Matt, Jeff, Eddie, Mike and Stone for a wonderful night. Keep on rocking.

Natasha:

I just want to say thank you to the band for an AMAZING night. I saw them in San Diego in 2000 and during Given to Fly, I had a moment of clarity. I was in an extremely destructive marriage and during the song I knew my life would change...an overwhelming feeling of happiness came over me, I knew I deserved to be happy (odd, I know, but when you are in a bad situation, you would be surprised what you think). I knew I was free...didn't know how I was going to do it, but I knew everything was going to be okay. 2 months later I was out of the marriage.

One year (almost to the date) I met the love of my life and it was our love of Pearl Jam that brought us together...that was the clincher. Two similar souls AND we both love Pearl Jam...UNBELIEVABLE!

Nonetheless...when the San Diego concert came around this year I hoped...NO prayed that Pearl Jam would play Given to Fly. Full circle sort of thing you know? Our friends who went to both Irvine shows told me not to get my hopes up as they had played it consecutively prior to the San Diego show. I noted their warning but knew I would hear it...everything about my life the last 3 years has been a series of serendipitous occurrences.

When the concert opened with the audience singing Betterman...I knew I was in for it. This was a special night. The energy was not of this earth...completely surreal. Do the Evolution came next (one of our favorites) and me and my boyfriend Eric looked at each other with an "Uh-oh" sort of expression. Then 2 songs later what happens???

Given to Fly...

Yep, there it was. I began to cry. Eric hugged me and we danced for a moment. BEAUTIFUL. Our friends told us they saw us from the 4th row (we were in L12...above the floor) they were so happy for us. We were happy for us. : )

Other highlights for us were Daughter with the People Have the Power tag, Crazy Mary (one word: BOOM!), Blue Red and Grey and as if the night could get any better...

ARC!!!!!!!!!!!

I was fairly certain I was going to spontaneously combust...I didn't, all's well. I do wish the audience would have kept quiet for ARC though, Ed seemed to be getting irritated that some wouldn't shut up. It was still beyond belief and I am honored to have been a part of it.

I know this fanview is a bit unusual...I needed to impart the gravity of the experience.

Thank you to Pearl Jam for sharing their love with us that night....I am forever grateful.

Peace, Love and Pearl Jam to everyone...
Natasha
