Brian Leyba: After seeing two nights in Irvine this was my last time to get in the ring with this amazing band and all the wonderful Pearl Jam fans. I had the honor of meeting Jack McDowell the pitcher/musician in Irvine and his lady friend recognized me in S.D. so it was my pleasure having a cool discussion, a couple of mid 30 guys, discussing music with Jack McDowell (totally cool cat). The Ten Club not only ruled me good seats first night in Irvine followed by free seats for night two of Irvine but my S.D. seats were insane 18 rows back thanks Ten Club. The boys came out blazing and never let up Mike ripping on guitar and the crowd singing so loud it was amazing. The light show was fantastic hearing Present Tense and Blue, Red and Grey was a treat I can't remember what song it was but Ed had a mirror that he directed this bright light hailing from the ceiling towards the crowd it was mind blowing. Ed took time to comment on the several bands he and Matt had seen at this venue like Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick and KISS and pointing out the nosebleed section that they would sit in called "pass the doobie section" Ed also had a funny take on Jewel and her new song already a tv commercial and Viagara offering them 6 million to use Alive as there new ad song. Sonic Reducer came out full throttle and Ed tried an experiment with some kind of tape machine to do the song "Arc" asking the rowdy crowd for silence to make this experiment work brought a mesmerizing result of lights and Ed and the incredible sounds that followed. As Baba O'Riley began I thought the whole place was going to explode the boys jumping around stage and the crowd going buck wild. My friend from S.D. had never seen PJ and he was speechless on how hard these guys bring the musical force as I said my good-bye's to my S.D. friends and headed north on the 5 freeway to Huntington Beach last night I could not stop thinking about all the great people I had met at these shows all with big smiles and super friendly and the amazing band whom I love so much and all the joy and happiness they give. From the bottom of my heart thank you Ed, Mike, Stone, Jeff, Matt, Booooom!!!! Brian Leyba in Huntington Beach Gil: First off, thanks to Ten Club for super tickets! What can I say? The set list speaks for its self. A buddy and I drove from Phoenix to catch this stellar show in Ed and Matt's hometown. After meeting some cool folks from Durango, CO before the show, we made are way to our "church." Enough talkin, time for rockin! Better Man was an unusual but welcome surprise as an opener. But the boys wasted no time launching into the full on guitar assault that is Do The Evolution and Save You. I have not heard better live versions of these songs. Ed's voice was in top shape! Half Full is 10 times better live. Ed shined a stage light reflection with a mirror across the entire arena during the end solo. Fun!!! Not For You was awesome as usual, Ed broke a string just before the songs bridge section and had it changed out. I wasn't expecting it but Present Tense was beautiful despite some lyric flubs from Ed. All is forgiven. Blood was the song I was hoping to hear for this show and it was like timewarping back to 1993. I'm very glad they brought this song back into the setlists this tour. It has amazing energy still! Crazy Mary showed off the explosive virtuosity between Mike and Boom. The two exchanged great solos with Ed, Jeff, Matt and Stone watching in awe. Skipping ahead to Ed with the uke before Blue Red and Grey, he touched on Jewel having her song in a feminine hygiene commercial (He doesn't have to download it or anything! Get it free from watching TV!!! Damn the FCC) Sonic Reducer and Alive just simply kicked ASS!!!! SOLID! Just when you thought it was over, it wasn't. Out comes a little black box. Ed hushed the audience saying it needs to be quiet for this to work.....ARC!!!!!! I never ever expected to hear this live. First time on the tour. I suppose it works by Ed singing a phrase into the box, it plays back what he just sang so he could sing the next part and so on. Eventually Ed's voice was pitch shifted to make a harmony. He was singing along with him self. My jaw was dropped and my eyes filled with tears! I cant wait for the official bootleg to hear ARC again. After a massive roar, the house lights come on and Mike sparks into the opening riff of Baba O'Riley! The house was rocking like one big ocean of noise and chanting. This was by far one of the best set lists and shows on this tour! I only hope the phoenix show is half as good. Pearl Jam are the greatest band ever, bar none! Thank you for a fantastic show!
