June 15, 2003 - Fargo Dome; Fargo, North Dakota
Luke Malmberg: Just got back from the show in Fargo. Wow. This was my first PJ show, and I certainly can’t complain. I drove from St. Paul, which is about a 3 ½ hour drive. It was worth it though! Idlewild was very impressive opening up the show. Good beat, got the energy flowing. I wasn’t sure what was going on when just Ed came out, but I soon realized it was Arc, which was really cool to hear. Next came Go, with Do the Evolution right behind. Everyone seemed really into Do the Evolution. Insignificance, Nothing as it Seems, ½ Full- all kicked ass. I think I am Mine rocks live. I know Daughter is such a classic now, but it was awesome to finally hear it live. Stone was right on all night. After hearing from everyone else how cool Better Man is live when Ed lets everyone sing, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. So much enthusiasm from the fans during the intro. Gotta love it. It was great to hear In my Tree. Kind of a surprise. Thumbing my Way is my favorite from Riot Act, a beautifully written song that sounds even better when Ed pours himself into it live. You can really tell Ed cares about this song. Great ending to the set with Porch. You know that is going to be a fan favorite every time they play it. At this point, I was blown away. I didn’t think the show could get much better. I was wrong. The first encore was amazing with Small Town thrown in between all the hard songs. I have to mention Small Town- (remember, my first show), this was my favorite part of the night. I was singing (or screaming?) at the top of my lungs, along with everyone else in the whole building. I have never felt so much energy in my life, and I have never seen a band take control of a crowd quite like Pearl Jam. Eddie looked like he loved that we all sang every word to the song. Simply great. Couldn’t ask for a better version of Rearviewmirror, damn Mike was rockin’ on this one. The second encore brought covers that I figured would be coming sometime. It was cool to hear I am a Patriot, and it was a little different version than I am used to. Crazy Mary w/ Boom blew me away, and Baba O’Riley was very fun to see. Really want to see Wishlist and Release, but you can’t get everything you want. Maybe tonight. Thanks for a great night Pearl Jam! See you tonight in St. Paul.
Luke Malmberg, Matt: Fargo, ND has finally been blessed with the presence of Pearl Jam. A once in a lifetime moment for any North Dakota natives. My first time seeing the band after 10 years of anticipation was complete astonishment and 200% satisfaction. The band has an amazing ability to make you think they are on stage and just creating music, no rehearsal, no practice, just great musicians playing great songs. It's not like any other show I have seen. I had chills through my body from the minute I heard Ed's voice. The guitar solos were absolutely crazy, the band changing line up mid set, the near sold out crowd in Fargo... it all made for the best damn Father's Day I will ever have. Thanks to the band (especially Jeff!!!) for adding Fargo to this year's tour! Matt |
