WON YI:

Promptly at 7:00 pm Ed walks out with his Lukelele and performs a lovely version of Red Blue Grey to a very empty venue. Ed introduces the Buzzcocks and they perform a 50 minute set which leaned heavily on The Clash influence. 8:30 rolled by and the opening drum roll Matt provides to "Can't Keep" starts the PJ set. After this song Ed speaks, "we are going to play some mellower songs since a lot of people haven't made it in yet due to traffic. We are going to save the heavy stuff until the sun goes down." "Off He Goes" was a big surprise and well received, everyone knew the lyrics. Before "Corduroy" Ed takes hits his guitar violently. Mike owns the "Even Flow" solo which last 5-6 minutes alone. "Cropduster" had cool background effects. Ed commented on the two huge jumbo screens, "We look much better in person." The tag for "Daughter" was supposed to be something, Ed couldn't remember the tag and settled for a "W.M.A-Another Brick in the Wall" combo. The tag Ed wanted to use for "Daughter" made it's appearance during "Better Man." Why can't I touch accompanied the usual Save it for later tag. The crowd took over the lyrics for Ed. Excellent version of "RVM" complete with an extended middle jam session ended the main set. The played for 1 hour 40 minutes.

1st encore lasted a bit long and Ed apologized by saying, "Sorry we were so long, there was a traffic jam in the back." It was funny during the show Ed introduced the band and when he got to Mike said he was a "fuckin prick." Later in the show he followed up and said, "The only time Mike isn't a prick is when he's playing guitar." The moment everyone was waiting for, "How you holding up? Be honest, we are honest with you? We are going to play something we haven't played for a long time". Straight into the first performance of "Why Go" in 8 years!!! The beginning sounded very similar to "Even Flow". Ed did the lyrics justice. "Know Your Rights" was great, Ed really belted out the "Get up and scream." I was expecting something special besides "Why Go" because before each song the guys would huddle and discuss what to play. "Hard to Imagine"? "Indifference" was a nice sing-a-long.

2nd encore Mike starts "Yellow Ledbetter" and Ed quickly stops him and Stone kicks the opening riff to "Free World." Mike finally gets to play "Ledbetter" and closes out an excellent show. Best DC show I've seen since 95. The Philly Spectrum was better, but a nice set-list tonight. Hail Hail Pearl Jam and thank you very much 10 club for the 7th row seats center for myself and my friend David A.

WOW, I just got home from the Bristow, VA show and I am just in awe. This was the most surreal PJ event ever! This was my 7th PJ show and by far the best. Not because it's the freshest but there I saw and heard some things tonight I never expected. 1st of all Ed was in rare form tonight. In all the previous shows I may have seen him smile or crack maybe one joke but he was doing it all night!!! He was beating tambourines over his head, pulling his shirt over his face, he even jokingly picked his nose when he saw himself on the huge video screens. At one point he was talking about Mike, and he said look how happy Mike is, it's because he's playing guitar, any other time he's a quote "fucking prick" (laughing and smiling all the way) Then he introduced Boom, said how it was his first tour and he was a really nice guy. Then he said by the end of the tour he'll probably end up a "fucking prick too" Then during the Daughter improv, he tried to get the crowd in a sing along but couldn't remember the melody to what he was trying to sing. He laughed it off and went into the wall by Pink Floyd, then mocked Donald Rumsfeld (later during Better Man he remembered how it went and treated us all). By the encore they would pretty much just huddle up before each song and decide what to play. Ed remarked they were going to do it through democracy. It was amazing. The played songs I haven't heard since the 94 tour such as Why Go, Indifference, Blood, Spin the Black Circle and they even played Jeremy. Ed joked that they might screw up Why Go since they hadn't played it in so long, and while they mucked the second chorus a little, it came out in typical PJ fashion.

Ed talked about how Ian McKaye (fugazi, Minor threat) was backstage, then he went on to promote the DIY method. That blew my mind considering I had some flyers in my pocket to help promote a label a friend and I are trying to start. Needless to say, that speech helped PJ fans be very receptive to me in the parking lot after the show. Thank you so much Ed!!! On the second encore Ed came out and said that they were going to go home but Mike still wanted to play....fucking prick.... It was classic. They went out with RITFW, which Jeff and Stone were cracking up as Ed bashed tambourines into his head (as stated above) and Yellow Ledbetter. Ed gave away the tambourines and thanked us all. No really thank you guys for one of the greatest evenings of my life. Still going SO strong as a unit. BTW mikes solos were insane!!! He even did the behind the head trick WOW, this just goes to show that rock and rock is alive, still kicking, and like Neil said will never die. Thanks again guys. jason

Oh my God, just got home to my buddy's house. This was worth the 6 hour drive to get here. Front freakin' row!!!!!!! All I gotta say is I don't know how much better it can be. The set list was awesome, Mike threw me a pick, and ED himself leaned over and shook MY HAND during Free World!!!! My buddy got a handshake too and our other friend got the tambourine. Out of all those people there, Ed shook hands with probably 5 , and I was one of them --- amazing. They almost didn't even play Free World, Mike started Ledbetter for the second encore and the rest of the guys stopped him. Stone was like 2 more dude!!! Thank God!!! Mike was right in front of me and I said thanks as he walked off...he politely waved his hand. Oh yeah, hopefully you will be able to hear us whip our section into that Why Go Home chant and then they PLAYED IT!!!!! Thank you PJ for once again making my night great. It only keeps getting better. See you in Philly!! Next mission is to get on stage and do a number with them:)
