John Lloyd:

The most appropriate world to describe tonight's short but hard-hitting set? Anger. Except during the playful appearance by Tim Robbins for "The New World," not once during this five song performance did a smile cross Eddie's face. Each song pounded home the band's words of protest. While on the past tour, Eddie donned a playful mask to mock the president during Bu$hleaguer, tonight, Eddie left the mask behind so that his looks of contempt could be seen by all. Of all the shows that I have been to, no song has ever emitted as much power as did this performance of "Masters of War." Every word, every strum, and every drum beat carried a new intensity that I have never before experienced.

The artists at tonight's show came to have a good time, support a cause, and encourage America to get out and make its voice heard. Pearl Jam supplied the anger, emotion, and the passion necessary to make clear what is at hand in '04.

JB:

I saw the 3 shows on this tour, Boston (opening night), Asheville, and FLA. NC and FLA shows were as tight and energetic as I can remember PJ playing (Matt rocked the house). The set lists were perfect and the band was truly on fire. Although Ed appeared ill in Asheville, the band's jamming on Even Flow and Crazy Mary were amazing! Mike and Boom trading fours, what more can I write.

As for the DC show, I think its awesome and very cool that they started with Grievance and Save You. All the Bruce and Dave Mathews fans were probably expecting Alive or Daughter. However, their set list was so appropriate for the sentiment of the show (at least to us die-hard fans). Masters of War was truly a highlight of the whole evening for me, as Ed and stone seemed so intense and the band was so locked in. Ed getting the crowd to put up a peace sign to remind everyone that Nov. 2nd was the day to vote was a classic moment as well. The band basically plugged in and played rock n roll and didn't give into the atmosphere of playing the fan favs. An excellent short and sweet set from most intense and solid rock n roll band on the bill!
