Melissa:

I flew up to Seattle for the CCFA benefit on the chance that Mike McCready & 'Friends' might turn out to be a Pearl Jam show. Thankfully, a third of that came true.

Vast Capital sounded great and had a good set, I missed most of it, however.

Then walks out a shaggy haired man, alone, sat down with his guitar. It seemed like no one knew who it was until the opening cords of Parting Ways... It was Ed, no longer blond, longer hair and looking great and once I heard that voice I knew every dime I spent getting there was worth it. Man of the Hour was stark, good, the crowd was screaming at this point, excited & happy.... Porch slower and small with just Ed on guitar, the crowd singing along pumping up to the finale, I was dying to pogo but this version wouldn't allow it.

Ed commented on how John Kerry might be the second worst president but he'd still be better than Bush... Obviously, we all agreed. Seeker was great, everyone singing along on the chorus. When Mike McCready and Stone walked out to join Ed on stage the crowd was going nuts, our collective wishes coming true....Were Jeff & Matt coming too?? No. But it almost didn't matter, we were all so happy at that point we were grateful to get this much. Yellow Ledbetter with Ed on drums no less, definitely gave the song a different twist, Ed's not bad but he wasn't too great either...but who cares, he was into it and so were we!! It all ended too soon though, Ed left right after, hugging Mike and then walked off stage never to return. Stone thanked the crowd for coming out. Brad's set was dreamy, mellow as usual.

The UFO tribute totally rocked, everyone jumping and dancing, singing to the songs we remembered! It was 70's rock power all over! Mike was jumping everywhere, dueling guitars with his band mates & playing behind his head at one point. Mike looked great, obviously in great spirits. I'd like to thank those 'motherfuckers' too...:) if you were there, you'd understand.

By the time the 'headliner' Left Hand Smoke came out much of the crowd was gone, probably feeling as I did it just couldn't get any better than what we had just seen. They put on a good set but the love was lost on them, we gave it all away to the guys we actually came to see. Great night.

Peace.
Melissa
