Who Made Up, Made Up The Myth...
With Pearl Jam rocking away on their tour of Asia and Australia the rumors have reached a feverish pitch. The Pearl Jam Rumor Pit is here with the remedy!
I Won't Back Down...
Pearl Jam's tour is still on and still being planned despite the rumors and speculation you may have been hearing. With the exception of the Bumbershoot show in Seattle on Labor Day, no other specific shows have yet been announced, but it shouldn't be too long now before we start hearing specifics on the June and August tour sites and opening bands. Pearl Jam will not be using Ticketmaster, so you will not see the TM logo on your ticket at future shows! Ticket prices for the tour will be around the 20 dollar range. Keep in mind that the search for venues that are not exclusively contracted to TM makes touring more difficult.
I'll Do This One Myself...Myself...
Pearl Jam will be doing this one themselves. This means the stage, fences, electricity, water, toilets, etc., for the outdoor venues will be the responsibility of Pearl Jam. Ticket distribution plans are still being hashed out. At the appropriate time, Ten Club members will be made aware of shows in their area...so don't fret...if you are a Ten Club member you will know about shows!
Speaking Of The Ten Club...
As many of you are aware, being in the Ten Club means you receive two newsletters per year, ticket access, and usually a Christmas single. For 1994, however, the Christmas single is late. We don't have an exact date of when it will be shipped out but we are told that sometime soon we could be hearing Walking The Cow.
The Ten Club newsletters are a total band/group effort. Everyone is involved! They are JAM-packed with lots of interesting information including tour info, zany and unusual photos, contests, side projects, and tidbits of interest...such as info on Artists For A Hate Free America, an organization whose board members include Jeff Ament and Kelly Curtis. For more info, please call 1-800-3-WHAT-2-DO.
I'll Have a Side Order of...
In addition to Pearl Jam some of the members enjoy playing in side bands. Mike is in a new group called Mad Season (formerly Gacy Bunch) and Stone is in Brad. Stone has also formed a record label called Loosegroove Records.
I Got Questions!
Q: On our school radio station, Spin the Black Circle was banned because some teachers said it was about heroin. It's about a record, right? Does anyone know what exactly this song means?
A: Viva la vinyl! The song is about records. The lyrics to Spin The Black Circle are in the liner notes of Vitalogy. Perhaps you could show them to your teachers.
Q: When is the new Not For You/Out Of My Mind single coming out? Why do they release it in other countries before the U.S.?
A: Sony tells us the release date is March 21. The releases are supposed to happen at the same time in the U.S. and other countries.
Q: I believe PJ's taping policy used to cover videotaping, too. Is this still the case, or does the "tapers OK" policy extend only to audio?
A: Pearl Jam does not do anything regarding recorders. They have no official way of dealing with it. They don't tell people to bring recorders, it is up to them. (No arrangements are made with any venue for taping.) [This policy is now changed. See Pit # 18]
Q: Any idea when Pearl Jam are coming over to play Europe....Festivals in the summer? or in the Autumn?
A: It looks like the summer of '96.
Rumors, Rumors, Rumors...
PEARL Rumor: The buzz is that Pearl Jam will have a song or two on a Beatles Tribute album.
JAM Fact: PJ will not be on a Beatles Tribute album.
PEARL Rumor: I heard that the members of Pearl Jam read the Internet. Is this true? Do they post?
JAM Fact: Sometimes. We know that Eddie's response to Courtney on the Internet was posted by messenger.
PEARL Rumor: The Ten Club will announce in a week a fan club members-only gig to be held in New York City. Did EV call NY radio station WDRE and say that there will be a Ten Club member concert in March in NY?
JAM Fact: Not true and No.
PEARL Rumor: Mike Watt, Dave Grohl, and others will be playing a gig in NYC in April. Rumor has it that Eddie will be there. Is this true?
JAM Fact: We don't know...only Eddie knows!
PEARL Rumor: Someone purchased tickets through mail order for a PJ show to be held at Madison Square Garden. Considering the fact that MSG uses TM, my take is that this person was totally ripped off. Are Pearl Jam appearing at MSG?
JAM Fact: Pearl Jam is not playing Madison Square Garden.
PEARL Rumor: I heard that all of the members of Pearl Jam are vegetarians.
JAM Fact: Some of the members of Pearl Jam are vegetarians.
PEARL Rumor: Bill Graham Presents has landed the assignment to produce the upcoming Pearl Jam tour to start sometime in June.
JAM Fact: Bill Graham Presents will not produce the upcoming tour.
Ribbit, Ribbit...
Here is a part of the recent press release by PJ:
"...PJ states that they did not lend their name to the PETA Save-the-Frog project and in no way endorsed the compaign launched last week while PJ was touring out of the country. The band in fact had no knowledge of PETA's Save-the-Frog campaign until after it had been announced to the public.
While Eddie Vedder is a PETA member and has been a PETA supporter for some time, the band has not endorsed any specific PETA campaign to date.
"What the band wants to make clear," says PJ spokeswoman Colleen Combs, "is that whether you decide to save the frogs or dissect them, do it because you are making your own informed choice, not because someone told you to do it, not because you thought PJ was doing it, and not because you thought you could get a free CD."
Perth Set List...
Pearl Jam rocked in Perth, Australia on March 6th and the set list was as follows: Oceans, Go, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Animal, Corduroy, Not For You, 100 Pacer, Even Flow, Dissident, Why Go, Jeremy, Whipping, I Got Shit, RVM, Blood, Porch, Satan's Bed, Daughter, Black, Better Man, Let My Love Open The Door, and Yellow Ledbetter.
