Little Secrets...Tremors...And Possibilities...

Seattle was quakin' and bakin'...and we suspect it was because Pearl Jam was finishing up the new album and rockin' out! Recently there have been a lot of murmurings (and sometimes shouting!) out there about where and when PJ will be performing. The earth's still shakin' but there are a few firmer spots. In future issues, we'll be verifying Pearl Jam show dates but it's too soon right now. Here in the U.S. the east coast is still most likely to be first on the schedule. We hear they might also be going to England this year...and a few other possibilities you asked about are Israel, France, Guatemala, and Canada. Australia is a possibility for '97. Fan club member only shows could be in the near future also.

Oh Well, Maybe Another Time...

We're told they won't be opening for KISS, or going to Donnington for the Monsters of Rock, or the Roskilde Festival in Denmark or SuperRock in Portugal this time out. They won't be performing at Lollapalooza either. Of course, all of those suggestions for using your backyards are greatly appreciated and are being carefully considered. "The Backyard Tour of '96" ...we can see it so clearly in our minds.

They Live And Breathe Music...

  • Pearl Jam's fourth album might be a hot rocket, but that's not going to be the title of it! It's still being readied for launch! They're mixing, doing artwork -- that kind of stuff, you know... Release date and other vital info will be announced soon...

  • A Mike McCready side project, $10,000 Gold Chain, has a song on the Cable Guy movie sound track named Oh! Sweet Nuthin to be released May 21st.

  • Jeff's side project, Three Fish, will have some tunes out soon. It will be out on cassette and cd, and limited edition vinyl (the vinyl contains three bonus tracks). The single is Laced, and will be in stores on June 11th!

  • Music For Our Mother Ocean: We're hearing fascinating things about Mike's album collection... That's where he found the song that Pearl Jam will be contributing to MOM, the collaborative Surfrider Foundation benefit album to be released July 2nd. Pearl Jam will be playing Gremmie Out Of Control, a 1964 surf-craze song by the Silly Surfers to help raise awareness about preserving the world's beautiful ocean shores.

  • Mike, Layne Staley and the rest of Mad Season are working on a new album now. No release date yet but we'll let you know.

~ Q&A ~ Q&A ~ Q&A ~

Q: Have Three Fish, Jeff's side band, announced show dates yet? (ABC Newsfax said July, true?)
A: Three Fish plans to tour for three weeks in July.

Q: Thermadore, the band Stone played with on Monkey On Rico is touring. Might Stone play with them at any of their dates?
A: No.

Q: Is there going to be a live Pearl Jam double disk released this summer or year?
A: No.

Q: Hey man, I was wondering, does Stone or Mike write the 6-string solos? I was wondering 'cause in the copyrighted version I have of Alive, it gives no mention of McCready having any part in writing the song, and I as a guitarist myself, know it is a bleep to memorize someone else's solo, because in really intense parts, you end up throwing some of your own stuff in.
A: They write their own solos.

Q: Pearl Jam performed So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star in San Jose. Is that a Pearl Jam song?
A: No. The Byrds did it originally, but Patti Smith did a killer version also.

Q: Is Throw Your Arms Around Me an older Pearl Jam demo song?
A: No. That song is a cover originally done by Hunters and Collectors.

Q: When is Jack Irons' birthday, d'ya know? I haven't been able to find out. I wouldn't want Jack to feel left out when he's the only one not getting a birthday card from me.
A: July 18, 1962

Q: Bumrush and $10,000 Gold Chain are one in the same? True or False?
A: False.

Q: Is Home Alive available on vinyl yet? I want it on vinyl but I can't find it anywhere.
A: They are trying...they hope to have it out in the next few months.

Q: The song Angel and Hard to Imagine are on what CD? Are they on any single or something like that? I mean, were they released officially?
A: Angel was only officially released on the 1993 fan club single and Hard To Imagine has never been officially released but you can find it on shows you trade with your friends.

Q: Are you sure that Habit is a Mike Watt song?
A: You may select more than one answer. Ready? Begin now.

  1. Bread Frozen of Stubmaster sabotaged the answer.
  2. The dog ate the cheat sheet and Eddie's covering his paper!
  3. Someone is in the Habit of bleeping with us.
  4. Eddie's got duct tape on his mouth.
  5. The answer isn't written in Stone...look to the Great Oracle in the East.
(Habit was written by Eddie Vedder.)

Fan Club Q's...

Q: When was the last Ten Club newsletter sent (was it the Xmas single?) and when will the next one be out? I'm not sure when my subscription expires, and I need to make sure that I renew if it's due. I also hope you guys can consider accepting multiple year memberships in the future.
A: Yes, it was sent at Xmas. Check your newsletter label for the expiration date. Only single year subscriptions are accepted.

Q: Will Ten Club members have first chance at Pearl Jam tickets.
A: Yes.

Rumors, Rumors, Rumors...

PEARL Rumor: I heard that PJ has released recordings that some stores were selling as "European bootlegs" in order to kill that $25/cd bootleg scam. Is that true? where can I find these recordings?
JAM Fact: True, PJ re-released domestic versions of European imports at reasonable prices. Check your local record store.

PEARL Rumor: Elektra records L.A. agent said that PJ are going on a surprise tour, starting in Mid-May...the tour will finally cover the U.S. and will include songs off the new album...rumors have it that they will play with Soundgarden in specific locations. What's PJ's word?
JAM Fact: No.

PEARL Rumor: Here's a FACT. Do you know why Epic has said there is no new album? There will be an album, but no more Pearl Jam. Epic and PJ are in contract dispute. Eddie and the gang want to split and do other things, but Epic says no.
JAM Fact: Wrong ALLLLLL wrong.

PEARL Rumor: The title song for the soundtrack of Beautiful Girls is credited to Pete Droge And The Sinners. The Sinners are Pete, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron [of Soundgarden]. True/False?
JAM Fact: False. The Sinners is the name of Pete's band.

PEARL Rumor: Eddie Vedder is the drummer for Hovercraft.
JAM Fact: Dave Krusen, formerly of Pearl Jam, is the drummer for Hovercraft. Eddie drummed for Hovercraft in the beginning but doesn't any longer. [This was our last Hovercraft question & answer. - RP]
