~Q&A~Q&A~Q&A~Q&A~
Q: It's very rare that a picture (Given To Fly cover) turns my insides out and just puts me in awe of people who have an eye for stunning photography. I'm assuming Jeff or someone from the band took the picture, any info on that? Who is the photographer?
A: Jeff.
Q: Where was the cover art picture for Yield taken?
A: Montana.
Q: Is it a photograph or computer generated?
A: Photo.
Q: Re: a "Hidden Track" on Yield...is it referred to as "5 Against 1"? Is the title "Whales"?
A: No and no.
Q: Is PJ considering doing another TV performance with the release of Yield? (i.e., SNL, Letterman)
A: Maybe.
Q: People in the UK cannot find the Given To Fly single. What is the release date for that country?
A: It is out now.
Q: Y100 in Philadelphia, is doing what they call a "Sonic Session" (kind of a private studio concert with a handful of people in the audience) with Pearl Jam sometime in February. T/F?
A: False.
Q: Please ask the band to play "Rats" in Maui. It's one song I've never
heard live and I'm flying out for that show. Any chance?
A: Ok.
Q: Is it true Pearl Jam won't play Michigan if they pass the law forcing
concerts to be rated?
A: Yes.
Q: Is Pearl Jam planning to release an album of live material in 1998?
A: No.
Q: The last Rumor Pit (#28) answered that Mike and Stone are self-taught guitarists. That's making me wonder if they know how to read music or do they play by ear?
A: Ear.
Q: Pearl Jam made their 1997 holiday single free to fans and available to Independent Record Stores. Was that to show their support of "Mom and Pop" record stores?
A: Sure. [The coupon offer has since ended. - RP]
Q: Does Pearl Jam mind that Yield was played so early on radio?
A: Not really.
Q: How about people putting MP3 files on the Internet? How do they feel about that?
A: Strange.
Audio Taping Pearl Jam Shows
Q: Will the venues know before time to allow taping? cause I plan on taping, and don't wanna get kicked out for having my tape recorder, or get my recorder taken away.
A: Sure.
Q: Does Pearl Jam's taping policy apply to all PJ shows no matter what country?
A: Sure.
[The policy is hand-held Walkman-type AUDIO recorders for personal use. There won't be an exclusive taper's section. Most venues do not allow mic stands. Call the venue to check with them on that. Most venue security are not accustomed to bands allowing taping so if you have any difficulty, ask for a Promoter Rep. They know the policy and will assist you. - RP]
Gear
Q: What type of distortion does Mike use?
A: Ibanez Tube Screamer.
Q: What type of wah pedal does Mike use?
A: Dunlop Cry Baby.
Q: Can you tell us a few of the kinds of pickups Mike uses in his Strats?
A: Fender.
Q: First, I know a lot about Stone and Mike's gear, but all I really know about Eddie's is that he uses Tele's and a Les Paul SG style guitar. But what I'm not clear about is what kind of amps he uses. I've read that he uses Mesa/Boogie but I can't seem to see those in any pictures. Also, does he use any effects?
A: Hi-Watt amps no fx (sometimes uses an E-bow).
Q: What is the thing on one of Stone's amp cabinets that looks like 2 crossed baseball bats and a number or something.
A: Duct tape. (more on this one next time.)
Q: What can you tell me about the gear that Eddie uses when he plays guitar. (strings, amps, effects, etc...)
A: It's real nice.
Q: A friend gave me a pick that has Mr. Point on one side, and on the other it has the Angel logo with pearl jam written on it. Whose pick is this?
A: Yours.
