Helping hands helping each other...
Helping hands
Pearl Jam have been busy again this year adding their voice and music to help others. This past weekend, the band appeared at both shows for Neil Young's annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, where they debuted two new songs, "Last Soldier" and "I Am Mine." It was a beautiful event and the funds being raised will help many children with severe speech and physical impairments.

On Monday, the band made an appearance at Groundwork 2001 at Key Arena in Seattle for the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization. If you missed the Groundwork webcast and weren't able to attend any of the daily concerts, you'll be able to find archived streams of the performances, backstage interviews and photo galleries on the Groundwork2001.org site - to be available for a month. To enjoy the archives, just donate ten dollars for an "All Access Pass." Your generous donation will be helping to relieve world hunger by assisting people in producing food for themselves. Not a bad deal at all. Future broadcast: VH1 will be airing a special on the Groundwork 2001 event during the Thanksgiving holiday season.

The Long Road...
On September 21st, Eddie and Mike on guitars with Neil Young on pump organ, performed a beautiful and moving version of "Long Road" for the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon to raise funds for a long-term relief effort for the thousands of Americans who have directly suffered from the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington. We hope you were able to view the show but if you missed it, there will be a benefit CD and a DVD of the event. We'll pass along further details as they come.

More about Long Road: We've been receiving many questions about how to find "Long Road" from people who just now found Pearl Jam due to the appearance on the "Tribute to Heroes" telethon. It seems fitting to give these questions special attention. "Long Road" can be found on the Merkinball single (1995), on some of the 2000 tour Pearl Jam bootlegs, on the Dead Man Walking movie soundtrack (1996) with the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The Dead Man Walking Score (1996) also has a beautiful 16 minute version with Nusrat. Long Road is also the first song on the "Pearl Jam: Touring Band 2000" DVD and will be on the upcoming "America: A Tribute to Heroes" benefit CD and DVD.

And From New Zealand...
Remember those rockin' Neil Finn concerts at the St. James Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand last April? Live tracks from those shows with Eddie and other guests, will be released on CD, DVD and video. Titled "7 Worlds Collide - Neil Finn & Friends," it will be available in New Zealand, Australia and the UK in late November 2001. Release dates for the U.S. and Canada are yet to be announced.

Release Date Rumors...
While some rumors end up being true or partially true, most do not. Rumors that are spreading all around lately have concerned new album news. Any Pearl Jam release dates floating around right now are false. The rumored Talk in Code is not a Pearl Jam release. We've heard that it's old bootlegged interviews. Pearl Jam has no scheduled release for November 13th. The rarities album they're still working on has no release date yet and a new studio album won't be in the works until some time next year. That is all.

News Bits and Stuff...
Look for the debut of Cameron Crowe's upcoming DVD, "Almost Famous Untitled - The Bootleg Cut (Director's Edition)" on December 4th. This special release features 2 DVD's with two versions of this award winning movie featuring more than 30 minutes of never-before-seen footage, hours of extra programming, the director's commentary and more. Included in the package is a bonus audio CD with 6 never-before-released Stillwater tracks. Is Mike playing on those tracks? He sure is!

Contest: Visit Synthesis.net for a chance to win Stone's wonderful solo project, "Bayleaf" and a Sony CD Walkman. Contest ends November 5, 2001.
