Local rock groups Flight to Mars (a UFO tribute band featuring Mike McCready of Pearl Jam,) Left Hand Smoke and Lee Rude and the Trainwrecks performed a special benefit concert raising $18,000 for the Northwest Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) on Friday, April 8 at Seattle's Showbox. This concert and eBay auction are just the latest efforts of McCready's devoted commitment to raise awareness and support for the CCFA. Three years ago at the annual CCFA spring benefit luncheon, McCready served as a keynote speaker, revealing his 20-year battle with Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, chronic and serious inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, commonly known as inflammatory bowel disease.

"When I first learned that I had Crohn's and colitis, I felt hopelessly overwhelmed," says Mike McCready. "By meeting so many brave, strong kids and adults through CCFA, I continue to be inspired and realize that I have a responsibility to do all that I can do help. There are millions who have these diseases and suffer in silence. I hope that by making IBD a topic of conversation, more people contact their local CCFA chapters and get the support and help that they deserve."

The mission of the CCFA is to cure and prevent Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through tireless research, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support. For more information on the organization, please call the Northwest Chapter of CCFA at (425) 451-8885, or visit ccfa.org.

Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illnesses, a partnering organization with CCFA, is a resource where patients can get free information, advice and advocacy services from attorney Jennifer C. Jaff and other volunteers trained to help patients secure their rights. Advocacy for Patients helps sufferers of chronic illnesses get their medical records, get disability insurance coverage, ensure that their schools accommodate their disabilities and much more. For more information, please visit advocacyforpatients.org.

In addition to the auction, limited edition posters and t-shirts from the Flight to Mars concert are available at flight-to-mars.com, with all proceeds benefiting CCFA.

February 23, 2005 - Last Chance Tickets:

So, in an effort to raise money for the Northwest School through a musical benefit on March 18, 2005 featuring performances by Pearl Jam, Presidents of the United States of America, Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart, and Bill Frisell, the Ten Club has blown out a bunch of tickets to fan club members only via an exclusive ticket lottery. This has been a great success, however, we do have a handful of tickets left in the $150 dollar price level that we would love to offer as a last chance ticket opportunity to YOU!!!

These seats will be selected at random (not based upon seniority) and located on the floor in the first 26 rows. So, gather up your friends and your funds, then donate your money to a good cause, and see a great musical performance all at the same time!

Here's the deal:

  • You must be an active fan club member to purchase the tickets.
  • If you have already purchased tickets for this show in another price level, you are ineligible for this last chance opportunity.
  • There is a 2-ticket limit; please indicate whether you would like to purchase 1 or 2 tickets when submitting your entry.
  • This is a first come, first serve opportunity … so hurry.
  • Deadline to enter for this last chance ticket opportunity is March 9, 2005

Email tickets150@tenclub.net with the subject line of LAST CHANCE!! In the body of this email, please include your full name, billing address, mailing address (if different), phone number, VISA or MASTERCARD credit card number and expiration date.

If you are uncomfortable sending your credit card number via email, you may fax this information directly to us at 206/625-1377.

If you are using someone else's credit card for the ticket purchase (i.e. a parent or spouse), please make sure the cardholder authorizes this purchase and please include the cardholder's full name and billing address, along with the information listed above. Only the winning member will be allowed to pick up the tickets with valid I.D.

PLEASE make sure you can attend this performance, as no refunds will be issued for unclaimed tickets. All sales are final.

Reselling of these tickets is strictly prohibited. The ticket locations are monitored, and if you are caught reselling them for profit, all future ticket privileges will be revoked. We thank you for your cooperation.

January 31, 2005 - Special Concert Announcement (See next entry following for the Ten Club Ticket Announcement):

"The Concert For The Northwest School"
Featuring Pearl Jam, Presidents of the United States of America, Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart and Bill Frisell

March 18 @ the Paramount Theater Tickets Go On Sale to the Public
via Online Ticketmaster Auction Only
Beginning February 8th at 10 a.m. PST

SEATTLE –Pearl Jam, Presidents of the United States of America, Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart and Bill Frisell will perform a special concert to benefit The Northwest School on Friday March 18, 2005 at 8:00PM, at the Paramount Theater (911 Pine Street). Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard and Presidents' Jason Finn both are alumni of the school. Ann Wilson is a parent of a current student and Bill Frisell is a parent of an alumna of The Northwest School.

Tickets for "The Concert for The Northwest School" will go on sale to the public via an online auction only beginning February 8th at 10am PST at www.ticketmaster.com/pearljamauction. Minimum bid starting prices for auction tickets will vary based on seat location. There are only 400 tickets available for this auction, many of them premium tickets. The rest of the tickets for the show are being sold though participating band fan clubs and to The Northwest School friends and family.

Tickets to big benefit shows in small venues tend to sell out immediately, providing opportunity for scalpers to turn around and resell tickets online for a high profit margin. The online auction is an effort by concert organizers to increase the money for the beneficiary and decrease the opportunity for scalping.

Proceeds from the benefit show will go to Seattle's The Northwest School, which is an independent college preparatory school for grades six thru 12. Their students come from around the world and from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. The school values academics equally with the arts. This year, they celebrate their 25th anniversary and are launching an ambitious program to renovate and expand their historic building.

For the past 11 years, Pearl Jam has provided assistance with financial aid for local students who show promise in the arts but who would not otherwise be able to attend the school.

"It's amazing to see the support and guidance our students continue to receive from alumni of the school. We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate 25 years of The Northwest School than having a great concert like this," says Ellen Taussig, co-founder and current Head of School.

The Northwest School students will participate in production, performance and merchandise design for the show: Two students who won a talent contest will perform at the show between sets; two fine arts students will help Pearl Jam's designer create the merchandise for the show; and several theater students will shadow the show's executive producer for the evening to get a behind-the-scenes glance at concert production.

For more information on The Northwest School, go to www.northwestschool.org.

The Northwest School would like to thank Alaska Airlines, Red Lion Inn – On Fifth Avenue in Seattle, KNDD, KISW and KMTT for their support of this show.

January 31, 2005 - The Concert for The Northwest School and Ten Club Ticket Offer:

We are excited to announce Pearl Jam will be participating in The Concert for The Northwest School in honor of their 25th anniversary. This evening will feature performances by local musicians and alumni of the Northwest School:

1. Pearl Jam (Stone Gossard is a Northwest School alumnus)
2. Presidents of the United States of America (Jason Finn is a Northwest School alumnus)
3. Ann and Nancy Wilson (Ann is a parent of a Northwest School student)
4. Bill Frisell (Bill is a parent of a Northwest School alumna).

The concert will take place at the Paramount Theater (911 Pine Street) in Seattle on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 8:00PM.

Since this is not exclusively a Pearl Jam concert – the band is one of four acts performing for this special night - each performance will be approximately 30 minutes long. The Northwest School students will perform between each act to round out the evening of music.

Because this is a big show in a small venue, and because of what we learned through the Benaroya benefit (the tickets sold out within minutes, but many ended up on eBay and that money didn't go to the beneficiary), we took some steps to improve the effort this time around.

There will be no public ticket sales for this event. However, the Ten Club has reserved a large amount of tickets for eligible fan club members to win a chance to purchase tickets for this special night.

If you are not selected as a lottery winner from the Ten Club, there will be an additional opportunity to purchase tickets through a Ticketmaster online auction on February 8th. This is an online auction only and bidding will start at 10am PST (www.ticketmaster.com/pearljamauction). We will do our best to notify Ten Club lottery winners before the Ticketmaster auction begins.

Ten Club Ticket Lottery Information

As in the past, the Ten Club will be hosting a ticket lottery for eligible fan club members. Tickets are being sold at three price levels: $150.00, $75.00, and $45.00. The price levels correspond with the ticket location.

You may submit one entry to each price level, but if selected as a winner you will be required to purchase the pair of tickets in the level for which you were chosen. In other words, you can enter 3 times, but can win only once. Multiple entries per level will revoke your eligibility. One entry per level please. Your chances of winning are based upon the total number of entries received.

Seat selection will be based upon price level, not longevity within the fan club. Exact seat location will be revealed in the ticket confirmation, but your purchase will coordinate with the price level for which you were selected.

Before entering the lottery, please make absolutely sure you will be able to attend the concert. Please read the User Agreement (see below) for the Official Rules before entering the ticket lottery.

In the subject line of your email entry please type: "NW SCHOOL". In the body of the email, please include only your full name, mailing address, email address and daytime telephone number.

Price Level 1, $150.00 each, tickets150@tenclub.net

Price Level 2, $75.00 each, tickets75@tenclub.net

Price Level 3, $45.00 each, tickets45@tenclub.net

The deadline to submit your entry is February 3, 2005 at 5pm PST. All entries received after this date will be deleted. We will randomly select the entries and if you are chosen, you will be contacted at the information listed in your entry with payment details. Further instructions on how to collect your tickets will be listed in the ticket confirmation.

To be eligible for this contest, the following rules must apply:

1. You must be an active fan club member by January 1, 2005
2. You must be at least 18 years of age
3. You must show picture ID to claim your tickets

For further questions in regards to this ticket lottery, please contact info@tenclub.net. We will respond in the order your message was received. Please refrain from sending multiple messages, as this will only slow down the response time. Your patience is appreciated.

Beneficiary Information

The Northwest School is an independent college preparatory for grades six thru 12. Their 438 students come from around the world, and from very diverse economic backgrounds. They value academics equally with the arts. This year, they celebrate their 25th anniversary. In addition, The Northwest School is launching an ambitious program to renovate and enlarge their historic building.

Students of The Northwest School will participate in the planning, promotion and production of the concert in a variety of ways. Two students will collaborate with Pearl Jam's graphic designer, Brad Klausen, to create the artwork to be used for the benefit concert merchandise, program, and posters. There are also a number of students in The Northwest School theatre department who will be shadowing the promoter/production manager.

Proceeds for this concert will benefit the Northwest School. For more information on the Northwest School, please visit their website: www.northwestschool.org.

January 7, 2005 - Tsunami Relief Auctions:

Pearl Jam recently made contributions to two organizations providing crisis relief for victims of the tsunami and earthquake: CARE and Save the Children. Information on these organizations, as well as two more doing good work in the communities affected, are listed below for all those who wrote asking where to contribute.

In addition, Ten Club is hosting several auctions in an effort to raise even more money for crisis relief efforts. Sealed, numbered copies of the Benaroya Hall LP box set are currently being auctioned on eBay . Proceeds from the auctions will be donated to Save the Children.

Oxfam America is sending food, water, hygiene kits, and plastic sheeting for temporary housing to Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Doctors Without Borders and International Medical Corps are sending medical and health-care relief to the entire region.

Save the Children's foremost commitment is the immediate survival of children, but they are also poised to initiate activities addressing their longer-term physical recovery and emotional needs. SAVE has had a program in Banda Aceh, Sumatra since 1976, which is where the majority of those who have been confirmed dead were from.

CARE has a long-term presence in the most affected zones, including India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. CARE's priority is to meet immediate humanitarian needs and provide basic necessities, especially in the critical areas of clean water and sanitation. Once immediate needs have been addressed, they will help families stabilize and begin to restore their livelihoods.
