September 13, 2005 - Benefit Show at House of Blues in Chicago:

In a time of unprecedented need, the Chicago of House of Blues is proud to announce that Pearl Jam will perform at a special concert to benefit the survivors of Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday, October 5, 2005. All net proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org), The American Red Cross (www.redcross.org) and Jazz Foundation of America (www.jazzfoundation.org), a New York City-based non-profit that assists musicians in need, will work in cooperation with the New Orleans Musician's Clinic to coordinate assistance for musicians impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

There will not be a fan club pre-sale for this show...and since it is a benefit show, there will not be any Ten Club privileges. This general admission performance is open to the public ages 21 and over. Individual tickets are $1,000. Remember, although this is a higher-end benefit, Pearl Jam has agreed to help in this relief effort and therefore ticket prices reflect the dire need for financial assistance in New Orleans.

Tickets are on sale now, online only, at www.ticketmaster.com. Phone (312) 559-1212 and outlet sales will begin at 10:00am Central time this Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005.

Show your support and make it happen! If you can't, check out other ways to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina in the "Activism & Info" section of www.tenclub.net.

August 31, 2005 - Digital Bootleg Program FAQ:

Frequently Asked Questions About Pearl Jam's Digital Bootleg Program From Ten Club Members

- Answers Provided by the Ten Club -

What is the reason for choosing MP3 files as opposed to a LOSSLESS format?
We chose MP3s because we wanted to provide you with great sound quality, without too much trouble downloading due to file size. (LOSSLESS files take between 3-5 times longer to upload and download.) The MP3 files containing the bootlegs will be 50% higher in quality than the ones you get from popular digital stores. Also, unlike the majority of download services, we have not encoded these files with any kind of DRM (Digital Rights Management). This means that there are no restrictions on your ability to burn them to disc, transfer them to your portable music player, or listen to them from your hard drive.

For the audioheads among you, we are also looking at the possibility of making LOSSLESS files available – we'll keep you posted on this.

How long will it take to download a 2 hour Pearl Jam show?
Below is a chart that shows you your estimated download time based on your connection speed. Please keep in mind, that sometimes your local ISP provider will limit your maximum download speed.

Connection Speed Time to download
512K per second 53 minutes
1mb per second 26.5 minutes
1.5mb per second 20 minutes
2mb per second 13 minutes

Will Pearl Jam release CDs of their live shows through their official bootleg program, too, or are the digital bootlegs replacing that?
We are working on a making a limited number of the bootlegs available as CDs for release through the Ten Club after the tour. We may also make some of the most popular shows available at retail. We'll keep you posted on this.

If I don't have DSL or a high speed internet connection in my area, how can I get a live bootleg?
We are working on a making a limited number of the bootlegs available as CDs for release through the Ten Club after the tour. We may also make some of the most popular shows available at retail. We'll keep you posted on this.

What methods of payment do you accept for the bootlegs?
Bootlegs can be purchased online at www.pearljam.com with Visa or MasterCard.

Will individual songs from each show be available for download or will the only option be to download the entire set?
At this point, we are releasing each show in its entirety, but we are not ruling anything out for the future.

Who will create the downloadable artwork for the shows?
Brad Klausen and Amesbros will be creating digital artwork, specific to each show, for you to download with each concert's MP3s.

What is Basecamp Productions?
Basecamp Productions is a company founded by Pearl Jam's longtime sound engineer, Brett Eliason, and his business partners Joshua James and Eric Scott. For the new bootleg program, Basecamp combines Brett's expertise and knowledge of PJ's boots from the 2000 and 2003 tours, along with the company's new propriety software. This new software allows us to deliver and manage downloads directly from the PJ site, so you don't have to go through a third party. To learn more about Basecamp, check them out at www.basecampproductions.com.

If I have ideas about the Pearl Jam bootleg program, how can I get them to you?
We are always eager to hear your ideas about how to further improve our programs. If you have any suggestions about the bootleg program, email us at: feedback@tenclub.net. We love hearing from you.

August 24, 2005 - Pearl Jam's Digital Bootlegs:

Pearl Jam's Bootleg Program Goes Digital
Beginning September 1

High-Quality, DRM-Free, Digital Recordings Available Just Hours After the Band's Live Shows at
WWW.PEARLJAM.COM

SEATTLE -Beginning with Pearl Jam's sold out concert at the Gorge in George, Washington on September 1, the band will begin releasing high quality digital downloads of their live shows exclusively at pearljam.com. The digital downloads will be available for most of the band's 2005 Canadian and US dates just hours after each show has ended; they will include special downloadable artwork and a slideshow specific to each night's show.

Pearl Jam's "digital bootlegs" will be professionally mixed in real-time at each show by Pearl Jam's longtime studio and live engineer, Brett Eliason. Eliason's company, Basecamp Productions, developed the software application that delivers and manages digital downloads. Pearl Jam has opted to encode the digital files at a higher than standard bit rate (192k) in an effort to balance manageable file sizes with very good sound quality. The cost is $9.99 per show.

The "digital bootlegs" are an extension of Pearl Jam's official bootleg CD program which was launched on the band's 2000 world tour; over three million bootlegs have been sold since the program's inception. "The concept for the bootlegs has always been about providing high quality recordings of our shows at an affordable price for the fans who collect them. A lot of the band's fans want to own a copy of the live show they saw in their hometown, or a particularly standout show they hear about from other fans. Making the bootlegs available in digital form is just a natural evolution for the bootleg CD program, and a response to more and more fans turning to the web to buy their music," said the band's manager, Kelly Curtis.

Pearl Jam's "digital bootlegs" are high resolution digital files that will be released without DRM (Digital Rights Management) so that fans can burn them to disc, transfer to them to MP3 players or an iPod, or play them from their hard drives. "The decision to exclude the DRM is unprecedented for a band of this size, but it's consistent with the band's sensibilities," says Tim Bierman, manager of the Pearl Jam Ten Club, which will oversee the digital bootleg program. "We want to make it as hassle-free as possible for someone to listen to a show they've downloaded regardless of what music-playing device they use," Bierman adds.

The technology supporting the "digital bootlegs" is provided by Basecamp Productions (www.basecampproductions.com). Basecamp Productions was founded by long-time Pearl Jam sound engineer Brett Eliason, and his business partner Joshua James. The company combines the expertise of Eliason - who was the technical architect of the Pearl Jam bootleg series from the 2000 and 2003 world tours - with Basecamp Production's proprietary software that delivers and manages digital downloads.

"The mission of Basecamp Productions is to provide artists with the ability to create their own branded online download systems so that they can sell high quality digital files through their websites, rather than re-directing traffic to a 3rd party website, explains Basecamp Productions' co-founder, Brett Eliason. He adds, "The Basecamp system integrates with the artists' existing website, allowing fans to download music direct from the artist."
