Pearl Jam, how about playing...

Since we were receiving requests for Pearl Jam songs for the summer tour, we thought we'd post a tally of your requested songs with some selected reasons why. We can't make any promises about what they might play but we added to the page and had fun with it as we had the extra moments to do it before the tour began. Your mail was terrific! The time for suggestions is now over and the final tally is in the works. THANK YOU!

Ok, here's the final tally. The list has been sent to the band and we hope throughout the tour they play everything that was suggested for hours and hours and hours. ha! Have a great time at the shows and we look forward to hearing all about it. Thank you again, it was fun! :)

  • Dee at Seattle: I would love to hear... Wash...because a very special friend loves the song and I can't wait for another kick ass live version to make the tape rounds. Push me, Pull me... Cuz I've had enough, felt enough, I'll be fine, see ya later. Satan's Bed.

  • Victoria: The sexiest groove I've ever heard...please play NO WAY. Long Road and Push Me Pull Me would be great too. Anything you want to play...it's all good.

  • Larry in Sacto: Rearviewmirror because everyone sees things clearer once... Smile-one of the best grooves I've ever heard. Do the Evolution-just listen to it. I wish Satchel could open.

  • Jincobeans: I'd love to hear Alone in Washington D.C., i am speaking for seven of my friends as well. It would also be cool to hear Sonic Reducer and Whipping. Those songs really fire me up!

  • Poonboy for Dallas show: The old songs should surface again. Wash, State of Love and Trust, and Breath.

  • Ryan at Chicago: I have waited a long time to see PJ live and I finally get that chance at the end of this month in Chicago. I would love to hear Black and Yellow Ledbetter which are my two favorite PJ songs, along with Dirty Frank, because there are just not enough good songs about Jeffery Dahmer.

  • Kacey in IL: I'm going to be at the first Alpine Valley, WI show with friends from all over the midwest. This is going to be my first live PJ experience and would be ecstatic if you would play Daughter, Elderly Woman and Yellow Ledbetter. These songs are among the best ever written and would make the show totally perfect for me and my frineds.

  • Kathy at United Center: How about throwing in Van Halen's "You Really Got Me". If anyone can do a kick-ass cover of that song, it's you guys.:-))))

  • Lisa & Sharon in NC and NYC: ALIVE - the song that changed my life, PORCH - the song that always enables me to let go of the demons within and RELEASE - the song that spoke of what my heart felt when I wasn't able. I have been a fan since the very beginning -1991- thank you for the music.

  • Chim from Stockholm: For Denver on the 23rd of June: opener "LONG ROAD", "ROOM A THOUSAND YEARS WIDE" and the groovy Stone tune "NO WAY". It would make my stay.

  • Brent[Albuquerque & Phoenix]: I don't doubt the presence of many of my favorites, so these are my favorite "rare" songs. Breath and Alone because I can see the guys coming together and rockin' on these songs; and Crazy Mary because you can't hear it without joining in and singing along.

  • Mike at San Diego: ALIVE-This is the first pj song I've ever heard...fell in love... REARVIEWMIRROR-reminds me how I used to feel about a friend of mine...made amends...is my roommate... GIVEN TO FLY-exciting song...beautiful lyrics...enlightenment?... would like some insight...

  • Donnie: Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun: reason: Aren't we all feminine and fun deep down inside? Open Arms: reason: To hear Ed's voice in even more octaves. Satan's Bed: reason: Bed's rule.

  • Jason: Hey guys--I'd love to hear Rearviewmirror and Do the Evolution, but especially Release. I saw Pearl Jam play in Mesa, AZ in 1994 on the vs. tour. They opened the show with Release--the stage was completely black as the first notes were played and only slightly brightened to a deep blue as Ed held that final note. An awe-inspiring performance. I'd love to relive it.

  • Lisa from Little Rock: I'll be in Greenville, SC and would love to hear "Breath" because Glory's the door... "Release" as it's the most intense heart- wrenching song... and "Red Mosquito" cause Mike gets down on the geetar!

  • Heather in Chicago: I would really like to hear "Elderly Woman", "Given to Fly", and "Who You Are" for my two year old daughter Cassie who has been listening to Pearl Jam since she's been in the womb.

  • Sexychic10: i want something a lttle different because i didn't see it any where else. I would like the band to pick a favotite song as a group and play that. then i would like Ed to pick his favorite song and play that. then for me i would like to hear porch becvause it makes me smile. of course my only stipulation is they all have to be favorite pj songs. thanks.

  • Carolyn at Hartford: I'd really love to hear Yellow Ledbetter, because I have five different recordings of it, all with slightly different lyrics. I'd also like to hear I Got Id and Corduroy. Aaahhh!!! It was too hard to pick ONLY THREE!!!!! I've waited 4 years for this!!!

  • Matt: PLEASE play Baba O'Riley in Dallas, because remember this: WE'RE ALL WASTED!!!

  • Heather at Detroit and East Lansing: I would love to hear Pearl Jam play: Wild Thing: To hear Ed sing, "groooovy". Why Go: Haven't heard that one at a show in awhile. Smile: Because I'll be doing a lot of that at the show and the experience will keep me smiling for the next 70 years of my life.

  • lke2010: 1. breath, a killer old school tune (and nice and long too) 2. whipping, just because it rocks (i guess dte would suffice here) 3. jesus christ pose, hey now let's give matt a warm welcome and let him rock out one of his own.

  • Kyle in Cleveland and Pittsburgh: No Way!

  • Shaun: i've never seen you live before, but i'm going to the toronto show and would love to hear Once, Rats and Leatherman!

  • Pjam8381: In Dallas I'd absolutely love to hear Throw Your Arms Around Me. I'll be there with me best friend, and that songs means a lot to us. I'd also love to hear Sonic Reducer and Garden which they just don't play anymore. Thanks.

  • LeAnn: Porch is just the rockingest song...and I haven't seen it done for a while...Lowlight and No Way are two of the most amazing songs on Yield, and I hope they don't get lost in the shuffle when those set lists are getting written up! = )

  • Chris: A friend of mine won a contest and will be seeing PJ in Vegas on July 11 and would love to hear: 1. Rearviewmirror 2. Daughter 3. Leatherman

  • RDR: Mankind: Stone should have his moment of glory, Chop it down: Mike too! Dirty Frank.

  • Jonna at Seattle: I want you guys to open up the concert with Evolution !!

  • Aaron at Detroit: It would be a supercool for PJ to cover Debaser with Mr.Black or any other Pixies song with him..

  • Tim: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SONGS THEY PLAY CAUSE THEY ALL KICK ASS!!!!!!!

  • ErickT at 2nd E. Troy and Chicago: I want to hear Baba O'Riley-your best cover, Indifference-because I've never heard it live before, MFC-My favorite song on your new album.

  • Jeremy in Lansing, MI: I'm a bass player so I'm partial to hearing "Rats" and "WMA". I'd also like to hear "Red Mosquito" because it's getting rare for Mike to just cut loose like that anymore.

  • Mark at second Seattle show: Say Hello to Heaven... since Andy will be there, Yellow Ledbetter, I got Shit.

  • John: Why Go? (it's been way too long....hasn't been played since '95....i would love to hear this puppy come out of the vault....)

  • Rob: There have been points in my life when all I had was myself and my PJ albums. I will be at the Portland show and I would greatly appreciate it if PJ would play Immortality, In My Tree, and please play Off he goes for my mom. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Pj for music with meaning.

  • JChimaera: SMILE would make July 21st 1998 a perfect day for me.

  • Jennifer in Philadelphia and NY: Please play the Long Road, it has very special meaning to me because it helped me get through a difficult time in my life when my best friend died last year. Also please play Hard to Imagine in New York because I do not think I have ever heard it live before, so it will be my first time hearing it and my first time at MSG. My last request is for the band to play Wash in Phoenix or Albuquerque because again I have never heard it live before.

  • For Chad Culbert's Mom and Brother in Minneapolis: Let Me Sleep or Wash.

  • Luke in Seattle. First of all I'd like to hear NO WAY because it seems like a refreshing pearl jam song. LOWLIGHT, because it's beautiful. I'd also like to hear PORCH because it rocks and sometimes they play if for a long time and eddie gets really into it. I'd also love to hear every other song that they have written, because I love all of their songs!

  • Kate at East Rutherford: Please please play "Elderly Woman Behind a Counter in A Small Town" because it is one of the most beautiful and simple songs they have ever written and they didn't play it last time they were in the area. Also, I would really love to hear "Hail, Hail" and "Off He Goes" or almost anything else from No Code.

  • Beth: Five short words: Jesus Christ Pose In Knoxville.

  • Laura Crain: Since I'll be traveling from Houston to New York to see the best, most awesome band ever - i'd appreciate if you guys would play 'In Hiding', please, please, please. I gotta hear it live.

  • Tiffany and Matthew: Release....because we feel it's the most melodic and inspirational song. Garden... We have over 50 bootlegs and we noticed that the the band rarely plays it live. Breath... Could you please play these songs at Boston and Toronto.

  • Kristen: I would really love to here PJ play is Sittin' on the dock of the Bay. 'Cready has the COOLEST solo in the song, and since they don't play it as often as they SHOULD, it would be groovy to hear it played once more. Also Dirty Frank & Gremmie out of Control,... I assure you that whatever Pearl Jam pick for their set lists will be fine and dandy with me. Being that ALL their songs ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dave Miller going to both Alpine shows and Chicago--I'd like to hear 'Present Tense' because that song has THE greatest dynamics, 'Breath' because it's one of the all-time classics that didn't get live exposure it deserved, and some new cover song that will BLOW US AWAY! Thanks!

  • Jared at Dallas: I Got Id is always a highlight of any PJ show! This is the song that made me fall in love with PJ and it would be an absolute delight for them to play it in Dallas! Leatherman/Big Green Country (Neil Young) as a medley....now that would be cool!

  • Pete: I would like to hear Behind Blue Eyes, Free Bird, and Pinball Wizard at the meadows concert in Hartford.

  • Daiv: I've heard all about All Night, but they've never done anything with it... It'd be good to hear about this nicely-hyped never-released song...

  • Alan: Indifference... You have to play this song at the Tibet Freedom show. This song has alot of meaning for various causes. Political battles and personal struggles. I can still remember hearing it at the Voters for Choice show. WOW. Talk about a moving experience. You touched alot of people that night Ed including myself. I look forward to hearing it. "I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room.."

  • Dana: Wow... As I read thru all the requests I'm stopped in my tracks...struck by the fact that although I thought I could easily pick 3 songs I now realize that would be much too limiting. I want them all....ok - but NEED - the songs I NEED to hear in Virginia Beach: Corduroy - Do The Evolution - and that new song... you know the one the guys have been working on while on the road... they just finished it the night before after their stellar set in Knoxville. I believe they call it "We're finally in Virginia, Dana!!!" : )

  • Micah: I would really like to hear Breath, Indifference, and Satan's Bed when pj is in Knoxville and WMA- Matt Cameron style.

  • Raulie says..."if they played Hard to Imagine anywhere from Alpine Valley through Kansas City, I'd be very happy."

  • Jason: Sin City (AC/DC-Bon Scott) is full boar boogie. We heard PJ play the riff while singing STBC, this time we want Ed to do the vocals to the song. It's hard, it's fast and we want it at one of the venues in LA cause me and some mates are flying over from down under to see all the gigs there. This and RVM and Porch kick it! We're gonna set fire to the town and we need Ed's help.

  • Joseph: in minneapolis how about "falling down" and or "saying no" those are two very great and powerful songs and my dad and I are big fans of neil young and maybe doing a rendition of "shots" would be cool... p.s. perhaps a duet with frank black since it is his final show on the tour, and in minneapolis of all places

  • Brian: I'd love to hear In Hiding, Breath, and Glorified G. Glorified is the first song I ever learned on electric bass (I played the double bass in orchestra before that), so it would be really cool to hear in Portland or my hometown Seattle show (the first one).

  • Jared: I would like to hear Yellow Ledbetter (in Spanish), I Got Id (or Shit, I don't really care), and The Color Red (Wah ah Crazy). I've been really good this year, too. How is Mrs. Claus? Are the reindeer cold? Oh wait... wrong letter.

  • Dan from NY: hey, im going to be a volunteer for the TFC and im soooo excited to hear what theyre going to play...1. hopefully there will be a Long Road sighting with Stipe involved like last year...2. for NJ, i hope to hear Last Exit because it rocks ...lastly for NYC, 3. guys, please play a kick ass song like Why Go because its been a while and its such a meaning full song, thanks!

  • Michael at Alpine Valley: Open with the best opener there is...Release, sets the mood so great for the night. Hard to imagine, my ultimate favorite, I have been waiting 3 long years for PJ to come to the Chicago area and play this, it would make every day of waiting worth it to hear just this one song. Brother, it has been an eternity since this gem has been played live, and every trader in the buisness wonders why. We'd die to hear this!
