  Soulful Lee Wiley was the first singer to record albums devoted to single composers; long before Ella Fitzgerald, such albums of Wiley 78s would appear on boutique labels and be snapped up by sophisticates, played until the surfaces turned grey. Here she introduces the first recording of the Arlen-Koehler classic, and notice how she includes the verse of the song, establishing the mood for the following 32 bars. When today's cabaret singers barrel straight into the chorus, they're favoring the musical equivalent of McDonald's over a repast replete with linen, silver and wine. Lee Wiley never served fast food.
