 1999 will be remembered as the year Ricky Martin appeared on the cover of Time magazine and the whole world was "Livin' La Vida Loca"! More than a billion TV viewers in 187 countries (not to mention some 24 million U.S. households) felt Martin's energy the night of the Grammy awards in February, when his full-throttle, career-defining performance of "La Copa de la Vida (The Cup Of Life) (Allez, allez, allez!)" signaled his arrival--big time. His first self-titled English language album, including the Spanglish radio version of "Maria" (co-written and co-produced by KC Porter of Boyz II Men renown) was one of the year's most anticipated musical events. But the native son of San Juan, Puerto Rico, who was raised on Boston, Cheap Trick, Journey and David Bowie records, has repeatedly promised, "I will never stop singing in Spanish--that's who I am."
