  There is no song "Concert By The Sea" by Erroll Garner, who wrote "Misty," just as there's no song "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis. There was a concert by the sea, however, and it was quickly perceived as a benchmark in Erroll Garner's career. It was also, thank heavens, recorded, which might not have been all right with everyone. Columbia, then Garner's label, had its own notions about new Garner recordings, including live events. Acknowledging this singular event, however, Columbia shelved whatever plans it had and issued the tapes of this definitive performance by a grand master. It turned out all right for everyone.
