Staying true to one's roots characterizes Sibongile Khumalo of South Africa, a soprano diva who has performed classical programs with symphony orchestras throughout Africa, acted in numerous theatrical productions, and taught music at the university level since the 1980s-- but has never recorded a note until now. Her first album, Ancient Evenings, which includes producer Motsumi Makhene's "Untold Story," was inspired by South African indigenous music. It is a celebration of the tribal music, customs and traditions of the Sothos, Pedis, Zulu, Tsongas and others who have inhabited Khumalo's world since growing up as a child in Soweto.
