Ricky Skaggs was, literally, just a boy when he and fellow 15-year-old Keith Whitley joined Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys in 1970. He was a key figure in the bluegrass revival of the '70s, playing in a variety of groups (including his own Boone Creek), as well as with Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, where he replaced Rodney Crowell in 1977. In 1981, he made his Epic debut with Waitin' For The Sun To Shine, an album whose back-to-the-roots sound helped define the emerging "neo-traditional" movement and yielded the #1 hit, "Crying My Heart Out Over You." Lately, he's returned to bluegrass full time; somewhere, Bill Monroe is smiling.
