Support for Playing your Sony CDExtra on a...

Macintosh

To start the Sony CD Player, simply double-click on the CDExtra icon.

Minimum Requirements

120 mHz PowerPC Macintosh
32 MB or more of installed RAM
Mac OS 8.1 or later
Netscape 4.0 or greater
Internet Explorer 4.5 or greater
To view videos, you need Quicktime 4.0 or higher (included on disc)
CD-ROM drive comptatible with Enhanced CDs.
(If you are unsure of the capabilities of your CD-ROM drive, please contact your hardware manufacturer to verify that your drive contains Enhanced CD (Blue Book/Multi-session) compatible firmware.)

Troubleshooting

Sound Problems

Are your speakers plugged in? Is your volume turned up?
Make Sound is configured correctly in Control Panels. To check, go to Control Panels, select Sound, select Sound In, select Internal CD, select Play-through.
Your CD-ROM drive may not be 100% multi-session compatible. Since it is possible there may be an upgrade for your drive, contact your hardware manufacturer for further information.
Make sure the disc is not scratched or dirty.
Quit all other applications, turn off screen savers log off of any network.

Video problems

If you cannot see videos make sure Quicktime 4.0 or higher is installed. Double click on the'Quicktime Installer' icon or download the latest Quicktime installers from Apple.

Online problems

Do you have a direct connection to the Internet via modem, T1, ISDN line or other? If not, you will not be able to go online.
Make sure the browser you are using can connect to the Internet site outside of the CD EXTRA. Try launching your browser and opening the URL: http://www.sonymusic.com. If it does not work there, it will not work from within the title.
For best results, use the latest version of a current browser such as Netscape Navigator 4.6 or Internet Explorer 5.0.
If you receive an error message when you try to go online you may not have enough free memory available. Make sure no other applications are open when you launch the Sony CDExtra.
Enhancing the performance of your CD EXTRA

Turn off all other programs while you are running the Enhanced CD. This includes applications, clocks, screen savers and other software.

Turn off Virtual Memory in Memory Control Panels.


Windows

After inserting the CD EXTRA in your CD-ROM drive a "CDExtra.exe" window will appear.

If your computer is not set to "Autorun" the "CDExtra.exe" dialog box will not appear. Set your computer to Autorun or double-click on "CDExtra.exe".

Troubleshooting

Getting Started

Make sure the CD is in your CD-ROM drive before starting your CD EXTRA title.

Sound Problems

Is your volume turned up? Are your speakers plugged in?

Do you have a Sound Blaster compatible sound card that can handle 8-bit, 22.050 kHz sound? Is it installed properly in Windows? Try using another piece of software to play sound within Windows.

If you have a mixing control panel, check that the levels are not set to zero.
Make sure the CD volume is turned up. If you have a volume control on the CD-ROM drive, check that is turned up.
Verify that the volume is turned up in your CD-player software.
Make sure the disc is not scratched or dirty.
Quit all other applications, turn off screen savers log off of any network.

Video Problems

If you cannot see videos make sure Quicktime 4.0 or higher is installed. The installer is provided in the Win_QT4 directory. Open Setup.exe. Alternatively, you can download the latest Quicktime installers from Apple.

Online problems

If your browser was open prior to your attempt to go online via the Sony CD Player, you may not be taken to the proper web page. In this case, enter the url as given above.

Other problems

1. The CDEXTRA runs very slow, stutters, stops, crashes
Quit all other applications, turn off screen savers log off of any network.
Make sure you are running the CDEXTRA application that was installed on the hard drive during the set-up procedure.
Make sure you have enough free memory for the CDEXTRA application to run.

2. The audio portion of the CD does not play in a CD player
If your CD player is unable to play the audio portion of your CDEXTRA disc, consult your manufacturer. Make sure you have the proper CD-ROM driver for your CD-ROM. Since CDEXTRA is designed to work on 100% of audio CD players we want to know if you are having problems with playback. Contact us at CDEXTRA@sonymusic.com.

3. The audio portion of the CD does not play in the computer
Make sure you have the right CD-ROM driver to read multi-session discs. Contact your computer's manufacturer for more information.
Make sure sound is configured correctly in control panels.
See sound difficulties above.

The Software (including any images, text, photographs, animations, video, audio, and music) is owned by Sony Music Entertainment Inc. or its suppliers and is protected by United States copyright laws and its international treaty provisions. You may not rent, distribute, transfer or lease the Software. You may not reverse engineer, disassemble, decompile or translate the Software.
  2. LIMITED WARRANTY. Sony Music Entertainment Inc. warrants that the original Software disc[s] will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying printed materials for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase. Sony Music Entertainment Inc.'s entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be limited only to replacement of the Software that is determined to be defective during the warranty period. This Limited Warranty is void if the defective Software resulted from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period.
