Feb 19, 2015 | Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings Sign Guitarist/Songwriter/Producer Steve Vai to New Multi-Album Deal

First Release Under New Agreement, Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A. Available in 2CD and 2DVD Configurations on April 7, 2015

Feb 19, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings have signed virtuoso guitarist/composer/producer Steve Vai to a new multi-album agreement which includes plans to issue two fresh Vai sets in 2015 beginning with the release of Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A. on April 7, 2015.

Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings have signed virtuoso guitarist/composer/producer Steve Vai to a new multi-album agreement which includes plans to issue two fresh Vai sets in 2015 beginning with the release of Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A. on April 7, 2015

Vai's first release under the new SONY/Legacy agreement will be Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A., a spectacular performance recorded October 12, 2012 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Available in 2CD and 2DVD configurations, Stillness In Motion revisits the 49th concert from Vai's monumental Story of Light World Tour.

Running from 2012 through 2014, The Story of Light World Tour totaled out at 253 engagements (including shows, master classes and concerts with various orchestras) in 52 countries.

In addition to the full Club Nokia performance, the 2DVD configuration of Stillness In Motion includes a bonus disc premiering "The Space Between the Notes (Tour Mischief)," a revelatory video diary comprised of more than three and a half hours of footage, lensed around the world on-stage, off-stage and behind-the-scenes during Vai's epic Story of Light World Tour.

"To say that this tour was a powerful life experience would be like saying the sun is hot," writes Steve Vai in his personal liner notes penned for Stillness In Motion.

Following Stillness In Motion, SONY/Legacy will release an album of new Steve Vai material, marking a significant next chapter in the musician's growing canon.

The new multi-album deal marks an SME homecoming for Vai, who set the gold and platinum standard for rock instrumental music across a series of albums released through Relativity and Epic Records from 1990's game-changing Passion and Warfare (his 2nd album and 1st major label release) through 2007's orchestral Sound Theories, Vol. I & II.

Vai will be hosting his second Vai Academy — the ultimate guitar experience — August 2-6, in beautiful Vail, Colorado, at The Arrabelle at Vail Square.  With the theme All About The Guitar set for this year, attendees will spend four days and nights discovering the intricacies of the guitar while enjoying once-in-a-lifetime clinics, workshops and jams from the likes of Vai and his handpicked guest instructors, including special guests Eric Johnson and Sonny Landreth.  Musicians of all ages and levels are welcome.  For more information, visit:  www.vaiacademy.com.  Closing out the week of Vai Academy, Vai will headline Electric Day at Guitar Town on August 9 in Copper Mountain, Colorado, at The Village at Copper.  The annual festival will also include performances that weekend by Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, John Jorgenson and Andy McKee, among others.  For more information:  www.villageatcopper.com/guitarTown/

About Steve Vai
Steve Vai, age 12, picked up the guitar in 1973 and started taking lessons from Joe Satriani (another future guitar hero) shortly after. He soaked up influences ranging from Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page to Jimi Hendrix and Brian May and by the end of the 1970s, was transcribing guitar parts for Frank Zappa. He became a full member of Zappa's band in 1980.

Rapidly becoming one of the most in-demand, versatile, eloquent and soulful sidemen in the business, Vai recorded with Alcatrazz, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth and Public Image Ltd.

He launched his solo career with the release of Flex-Able, a homemade indie album, in 1984. Since 1990, he has recorded and released eight studio albums, eight live albums, two EPs, 12 soundtracks, 20 compilation albums, seven videos and more. Steve Vai has earned 15 Grammy nominations and has won three Grammy Awards and appeared as a guest artist on more than 40 albums, playing with artists like Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Gregg Bissonnett and Joe Jackson, among others.

Feb 18, 2015 | Experience Hendrix L.L.C. And Legacy Recordings To Release You Can't Use My Name: Curtis Knight & The Squires (Featuring Jimi Hendrix) The RSVP/PPX Sessions On March 24

1965-1967 Recordings Showcase Hendrix's Brilliance Just Before His Ascent to Stardom

Feb 18, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings are releasing You Can't Use My Name: Curtis Knight & The Squires (Featuring Jimi Hendrix) The RSVP/PPX Sessions – the first in a series that presents these recordings in their original context. The specially priced fourteen-track collection, taken from sessions in 1965 and 1966 [plus one July 1967 recording], will be available on CD and 150 gram LP on March 24.

Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings are releasing

In the mid 1960s, before launching a solo career that has profoundly influenced and altered the course of popular music, Jimi Hendrix was a little known sideman, working for short periods with a variety of artists including the Isley Brothers, Don Covay, Little Richard, and the Harlem-based R&B combo Curtis Knight & The Squires.

Ed Chalpin was an entrepreneur and record producer who founded PPX International, Inc. in 1960. He had created a lucrative business by recording cover versions of top US hits for foreign record companies, who then overdubbed translated lyrics.  In addition to creating remakes for foreign markets, Chalpin had begun to produce original material at his New York recording facility Studio 76 that he would license to various record labels.   Chalpin auditioned Curtis Knight in 1965 and agreed to manage and produce him.

In October 1965, Knight introduced Jimmy Hendrix to Chalpin. After their initial recording session yielded Knight's "How Would You Feel," Chalpin signed Jimi Hendrix to a notorious three-year recording contract for $1.00 and a 1% royalty. Hendrix had thought he was signing a release as a backing musician, later noting, "I took it as an insure of getting paid for the session…" In 1966, Chalpin licensed two singles from Hendrix's sessions with Curtis Knight to RSVP Records, a New York based independent label owned by Jerry Simon. "How Would You Feel" b/w "Welcome Home" and "Hornet's Nest" b/w "Knock Yourself Out." The latter two instrumentals were composed by Hendrix and stand as the first ever commercial release of his own music. Both of these efforts missed the charts entirely and, as a result, Simon's interest in the group waned and RSVP did not issue a third single.

Hendrix would continue to intermittently perform as a member of Curtis Knight & The Squires in 1966. He had also formed his own group Jimmy James & The Blue Flames in Greenwich Village.  It was there where Animals bassist Chas Chandler spotted Hendrix performing "Hey Joe" at the Cafe Wha?. He offered to take Hendrix to London to record a version of the song and serve as his producer.

In September 1966, Chandler escorted Hendrix from New York to London to make good on his promise. Under his guidance, Hendrix formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience with drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. Chandler rushed them into the recording studio, pawning his bass guitar to help fund the group. Chandler's faith was rewarded in December 1966 when "Hey Joe" became a hit in England and soon throughout Europe. "Purple Haze" and "The Wind Cries Mary" followed in quick succession and were even more successful.  In a matter of months, Hendrix had transformed from a struggling, little known sideman to the brightest new star in popular music.

Ed Chalpin had learned of Hendrix's international success via reports in industry trade journals. Beginning in May 1967, Chalpin had begun notifying every company he could identify as doing business with Hendrix that his company PPX had previously signed the guitarist to an exclusive three year contract covering the term between October 1965 and October 1968.

Beginning with December 1967's Get That Feeling, Chalpin began to compile and license albums featuring the master recordings Hendrix had recorded as a sideman to Knight. Get That Feeling was followed by October 1968's Flashing. Hendrix's burgeoning fan base was confused by the lack of liner notes or accurate cover imagery [Get That Feeling featured a photograph of Hendrix performing at the Monterey Pop Festival] as these albums gave full artist billing to Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix was hamstrung throughout his career by litigation over these recordings in the US and UK and these fights continued until his family ultimately prevailed in litigation against Ed Chalpin and PPX in 2003. Experience Hendrix has since acquired all of the recordings controlled by Chalpin and PPX and this compilation stands as their first attempt to present this music in its original context.

You Can't Use My Name kicks off with "How Would You Feel," a 1966 single based in part on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." "How Would You Feel" tackles sensitive race issues, pre-dating by a few years the explosion of popular R&B acts latching onto the thriving Black Power movement. Its b-side "Welcome Home" is also featured on the collection. These tracks represent a musical touchstone, as Hendrix (listed as "Jimmy Hendrix") received his first ever label credit as an arranger of both songs. Also included is the instrumental "Hornet's Nest" and its b-side "Knock Yourself Out [Flying On Instruments]," both of which were composed by Hendrix.

Capping off You Can't Use My Name is the August 1967 track that spawned its namesake. Heard for the first time is the fascinating section of studio chatter that precedes a take of "Gloomy Monday," wherein Hendrix repeatedly requests that Chalpin not use his name in the marketing of the recording, and Chalpin agrees, albeit, ambiguously. Already months deep into litigation, it can only be theorized that Hendrix continued to participate in sessions with Chalpin as a gesture of goodwill in the hope that all would be forgiven. It didn't pan out that way, and the dialog is an interesting footnote to the complicated history between the two parties.

"We are extremely delighted to now be in a position to offer these rare, historic recordings," commented Experience Hendrix President and CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix. "What makes them so special is that they provide an honest look at a great artist during the pivotal time when he was on the cusp of his breakthrough..  a time when Jimi's number one priority was playing and recording, and this set captures him doing just that, both as a collaborator and an innovator. They are more than just recordings, they represent a significant segment in the timeline of Jimi's musical existence."

Original Jimi Hendrix Experience recording engineer Eddie Kramer recently went to pain-staking lengths to maximize the audio quality on the collection. "We've taken every single performance as far back as we could go in terms of source and we came up with the best original performances, stripped them back and re-mixed them and made what we feel is the best representation of those recordings," says Kramer. "It's a continuing archeological sound dig which is to say you sweep away the dirt with a fine brush and find the gem hidden therein.  It's what I call 'forensic audio' where we use every available piece of outboard gear and plug-ins and whatever tools are available to us.  It's been hours and hours of intensive work but it's truly been fun to find the best performances and to make sense out of them."

These recordings made for PPX and RSVP are part of Jimi Hendrix's extraordinary legacy. They neatly align with those other sessions Hendrix participated in during this same era as a sideman for other acts. Absent the confusion as to Hendrix's true involvement, these recordings provide a snapshot of his development immediately prior to his discovery by Chas Chandler. "I was a backing musician playing guitar," Hendrix explained in a 1967 interview. "I was always kept in the background, but I was thinking all the time about what I wanted to do." Enjoyed in this context, these Curtis Knight sessions showcase his evolving technique and emerging brilliance.

Feb 17, 2015 | Sony Classical To Release The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack To The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Score by Twelve-time Academy Award Nominee Thomas Newman

Available February 24, 2015

Feb 17, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the second installment of the star-studded British comedy that follows a group of British retirees who decide to spice up their lives in magical India. In theaters on March 6, 2015, the sequel was once again directed by John Madden, best known for his acclaimed movies Shakespeare In Love (Academy Award® winner for Best Picture, 1998), Proof (based on the eponymous Pulitzer Prize winning play, 2005) and The Debt. The beloved first film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movie proved to be an international success, grossing over $136 million worldwide.

The renowned cast has reunited for the film including stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Ronald Pickup, Tina Desai, Diana Hardcastle and Lillete Dubey.  Additional cast making their debut include Tamsin Greig, with David Strathairn and Richard Gere.

The soundtrack for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is available on February 24, 2015 via Sony Classical. Thomas Newman, one of the most respected composers in the movie industry, once again composed the original score. With an illustrious career of over 30 years, Newman has scored more than 70 feature films. Coming from a prominent musical dynasty – his father was the renowned composer Alfred Newman, and singer/songwriter/composer Randy Newman is his cousin – Thomas Newman has thus far been nominated for 12 Academy Awards and has won an Emmy® Award, 2 BAFTA Awards and 6 Grammy® Awards.

Newman has composed the scores for many other notable films, including American Beauty, Skyfall, Erin Brockovich, The Good German, Finding Nemo and Wall-E for Pixar as well as The Horse Whisperer, The Help and The Iron Lady.

Newman's vibrant and inspirational score for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, masterfully evokes the Indian musical textures and ensures an elegant and delightful musical journey.

"Tom's ability to penetrate the soul of a film is unmatched; In the two Marigold films, Tom's group of collaborators expanded to include some extraordinary Indian players and vocal soloists, creating a musical and cultural synthesis that has produced two ravishing and interlocking scores: atmospheric, surprising, thrilling, funny, haunting and entirely sui generis," says director John Madden.

Now that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full up with its long-term residents, co-managers Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) and Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) have a dream of expansion, and they've found just the place: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. With plans underway, Evelyn and Douglas (Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) venture into the Jaipur workforce, wondering where their regular breakfast dates will lead.  Meanwhile, Norman and Carol (Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle) navigate the swirling waters of an exclusive relationship, as Madge (Celia Imrie) juggles two very eligible suitors, and recent arrival Guy Chambers (Richard Gere) finds a muse in Sonny's mother, Mrs Kapoor (Lillete Dubey) for his next novel. As his marriage to Sunaina (Tina Desai), the love of his life, quickly approaches, Sonny finds his plans for the new hotel making more claims on his time than he has available. Perhaps the only one who may know the answers is Muriel, the keeper of everyone's secrets. As the big day nears, family and guests alike find themselves swept up in the irresistible intoxication of an Indian wedding.

Feb 17, 2015 | Emily West Announces U.S. Residency Tour Dates In NYC, Philadelphia And Los Angeles

Feb 17, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- "America's Got Talent" finalist and Sony Music recording artist EMILY WEST announces residencies in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

Emily just released a new video collaboration with Postmodern Jukebox. It is a Roy Orbison-esque version of Kanye West & Paul McCartney's "Only One." Check it out here!

Her debut full-length album All For You will be released in Summer 2015 – it is available for preorder now.

About Emily West:
Emily West is a musical maverick in the masquerade of pin-up perfection. Musically captivating and innovative, she knows she has been a hard case for the industry to define. "I'm a Jessica Rabbit/Tom Waits kinda-something. I love hearing beautiful melodies telling me horrible things. I wear my heart on my sleeve. Judy, Barbara, Patsy, Rufus Wainwright, Antony & the Johnsons. I love to interpret a song. I love to sing stories." Earlier this year, she made the decision to try out for "America's Got Talent." "I thought maybe if I audition in front of the world, I could save time and see where it takes me." It was a wise decision. West excelled on the National stage and came in second in the renowned competition - a result she hopes will allow her to play to the breadth of audience she's always wanted, and to take them with her on this exciting journey. West is hard at work recording her debut album for Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks. In December she shared the stage with Cyndi Lauper at Lauper's annual "Home For The Holidays" benefit concert at the Beacon in NYC. She also co-hosted the red carpet at the first "American Country Countdown Awards" in Nashville.

Feb 11, 2015 | Bob Dylan's Shadows In The Night Album Becomes Worldwide Hit

HIGH-RANKING GLOBAL CHART POSITIONS MATCH ALBUM'S CRICITCAL ACCLAIM

Feb 11, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Dylan's new album, Shadows In The Night, has debuted in the Top Ten in 13 countries spanning the globe, including #1 chart entries in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Ireland, #2 in the Netherlands and Switzerland, #3 in Austria, Japan and Spain, #6 in Germany and Belgium, #8 in Finland and #10 in Canada.  The album has also debuted at #7 in the United States, making it the artist's 17th studio album to debut in the Top 10 in this country.

Bob Dylan's Shadows In The Night Album Becomes Worldwide Hit

Showcasing the artist's singular interpretive artistry on ten classic American songs, Shadows In The Night is the 36th studio album from Dylan and the first since the release of his worldwide hit Tempest in 2012.  Produced by Jack Frost, Dylan's unique approach to recording the songs included refining complicated arrangements for 30-piece orchestras down to those uniquely tailored for his five-piece band.

The high worldwide chart entries of Shadows In The Night comes on the heels of Dylan's honor as Musicares Person Of The Year at a sold-out ceremony in Los Angeles on February 6.  The event raised more than $7 million for Musicares, the most in the 25-year history of the event.  Following performances of Bob Dylan songs by a who's who of contemporary musicians – including Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Norah Jones, Jack White, Willie Nelson, Beck, Bonnie Raitt and many others – Dylan held the audience rapt with a wide-ranging, nearly 40-minute speech that has now been excerpted in countless media outlets around the world.  The complete transcript of Dylan's speech, taken directly from the artist's handwritten notes, has been reproduced in its entirety in the New York Times and can be found here:  http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/arts/Bob-Dylan-Speech-Transcription-20150207.pdf

Critical response to Shadows In The Night has been rapturous, with rave reviews coming in from around the globe:

  • David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone, "The great shock here is Dylan's singing. Dylan's focus and his diction evoke his late-Sixties poise and clarity with an eccentric rhythmic patience in the way he holds words and notes across the faint suggestions of tempo. It is not crooning. It is suspense."
  • The Los Angeles Times's Randall Roberts summed up his thoughts in his review, writing, "Ten songs, 34 minutes, a soaring lifetime's worth of emotion conveyed with the fearlessness of a cliff diver spinning flips and risking belly flops in the open air — that's Dylan and his band on the graceful, often breathtaking Shadows.…Profound, thematically devastating and so well curated as to feel essential."
  • USA Today's Elysa Gardner opined, "To have a songwriter of Dylan's stature champion interpretive singing is cause for celebration. The genuine care and knowing he brings to a different American pop tradition, to the music and lyrics – it's something wonderful."
  • In his 5-star review of the album, The Guardian's Alex Petridis wrote, "It may be the most straightforwardly enjoyable album Dylan's made since Time Out of Mind. He's an unlikely candidate to join the serried ranks of rock stars tackling standards: appropriately enough, given that Frank Sinatra sang all these songs before him, he does it his way, and to dazzling effect."
  • In another 5-star review, Mojo's Michael Simmons wrote, "While countless other contemporaries have recorded Great American Songbook collections, Shadows In The Night -- Dylan's flat-out brilliant contribution to the concept – is not, by any definition, a recreation of the past. His singing on Shadows is his best vocalizing in years – in-studio or out. He glides with the melodies and relaxes into them, enjoying the ride that these gems provide….Much will be made of the autumnal theme: from the age of the material to songs that address mortality. But this extraordinary record is more refreshing burst than last gasp and its timelessness speaks more to life than death."

Concurrent with the release of Shadows In The Night is a 9,000-word interview with Dylan in AARP The Magazine.  Conducted by the publication's Editor-In Chief Robert Love, the interview is one of the most extensive of Dylan's career and covers a broad array of topics, including Frank Sinatra's enduring influence, Irving Berlin, recording of the new album, whether young people find songs from the '40s and '50s to be 'corny,' corporate influence in the U.S., his period of self-seclusion in the mid-1960s and growing up without television, to name only several.  The interview can be found in its entirety on AARP's website (http://aarp.org/dylan).

Bob Dylan's five previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while "Love and Theft" continued Dylan's Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.

Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist's most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist's first album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in five other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies.  Tempest received unanimous worldwide critical acclaim upon release and reached the Top 5 in 14 countries, while the artist's globe-spanning concert tours of the past few years have heavily emphasized that album's singular repertoire.

These five releases fell within a 15-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, "Things Have Changed," from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best-selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his first collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist's royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.

In recent years, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor. He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for "his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power." He was also the recipient of the Officier de la Legion d'honneur in 2013, Sweden's Polar Music Award in 2000, Doctorates from the University of St. Andrews and Princeton University, as well as numerous other honors.

Bob Dylan has sold more than 125 million records around the world.

"Shadows In The Night is quite gorgeous, the sound of an old man picking over memories, lost loves, regrets, triumphs and fading hopes amid an ambient tumble of haunting electric instrumentation. It is spooky, bittersweet, mesmerisingly moving and showcases the best singing from Dylan in 25 years….[An] extraordinary record. The Telegraph Neil McCormick

"The sound of Shadows In The Night is clear as water.  Not only can you hear every word, every note, that Dylan sings, but you can hear him draw breath before beginning to sing, and sighing out the end of a line.  The instrumentals – even the infrequent horns, and soft, subtle drums – don't ever drown him out.  You're as close as the microphone, making this record feel as intensely personal as, perhaps, it is to its maker.  Dylan sings these songs intimately, sometimes conversationally, with emotion and humor….Shadows In The Night is an early valentine to us all.  It's music to dance to in someone's arms, slowly, with half-forgotten steps in the formal patterns of long ago.  It's a record to remember to, to dream to, and -- most of all -- to feel to." No Depression Anne Margaret Daniel

"A tour-de-force of restrained genius….This is indisputably the singer's most memorable vocal performance in years: irreducibly "Dylan", yet freighted with an unexpected beauty that powerfully reinforces these tales of love, loss and sorrow - and refracted through some of the most tantalising melodies ever committed to manuscript."GQ.com UK Bill Prince

"[A] stunning new album….Dylan turns the tired standards into introspective, wise musical poems, just as Sinatra did."Boston HeraldJed Gottlieb

"A gem…., once you get past the initial shock of hearing Dylan crooning classics, the biggest surprise is how successfully he pulls it off. How deftly he avoids what could easily have been a ridiculous train wreck. And how he manages to pay respect to timeless songs and an immortal artist — while still doing things his way." Toronto SunDarryl Sterdan

"The performances are almost painfully heartfelt and direct…. Dylan exposes a raw emotional vulnerability that jumps out at the listener…. The music is actually enhanced by Dylan's willingness to move outside his comfort zone. Isn't that what we want from our boldest creative spirits?" Daily BeastTed Gioia

Feb 11, 2015 | Sony Classical to Release Original Soundtrack on February 17, 2015 for the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) Exclusive, The Order: 1886™

Available Digitally and CD-on-Demand

Scored by 'British Academy Award' winner Jason Graves

Feb 11, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- British Academy Award-winning composer, Jason Graves, has scored one of this year's biggest video game releases, The Order: 1886 available digitally and as CD-on-Demand on February 17, 2015. Created and developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, The Order: 1886 launches exclusively for the PlayStation 4 system on February 20, 2015.

In this cinematic experience based on a tense and unique vision of Victorian-Era London, Graves delivers an extraordinary score that brings to life the game's alternate history, inspired by Knights of the Roundtable lore and Lycan mythology. Renowned for his BAFTA-winning score for Dead Space and the acclaimed Tomb Raider reboot, the classically trained American composer employs memorable orchestral writing and unique musical textures in The Order: 1886 to outstanding effect.

Graves masterfully combines cinematic sounds with action-packed cues, empathetic melodies, and powerful passages. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, the score for The Order: 1886 deliberately eschews musical cliches, such as heroic French horns and excessive bombast. Instead, the celebrated composer makes use of an impressive choir of 24 men and low, bassy sounds – an elegant, all the more fascinating approach to a title that focuses on blockbuster game play and dramatic character performances.

This unique musical arrangement has a truly spectacular effect: Jason Graves' compositions emanate a warm weight that perfectly conveys the tense, industrial feel that colors the world of The Order: 1886. With its authentic acoustics as well as careful, original tone, Graves' music skillfully immerses players in the epic action of The Order: 1886, one of 2015's most anticipated video games.

Feb 03, 2015 | Bob Dylan's Shadows In The Night Receives Critical Raves

AS ALBUM IS RELEASED TODAY IN CD, VINYL & DIGITAL FORMATS

Feb 3, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Dylan's first new album in three years, Shadows In The Night, arrives in stores and online today in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats. The album can now be found at Amazon (http://smarturl.it/shadowsinthenight), iTunes (http://smarturl.it/shadows_itunes) and at all music retail outlets.

  • The Los Angeles Times' Randall Roberts summed up his thoughts in his review, writing, "Ten songs, 34 minutes, a soaring lifetime's worth of emotion conveyed with the fearlessness of a cliff diver spinning flips and risking belly flops in the open air — that's Dylan and his band on the graceful, often breathtaking Shadows.…Profound, thematically devastating and so well curated as to feel essential."

For those who care about interpretive singing, Shadows In the Night is cause for celebration — and as vital an album as you're likely to hear this year….[The album] will be a revelation to anyone whose judgment has been shaped by young pop stars and TV talent-show contestants who try to substitute vocal gymnastics and bombast for feeling.
USA TodayElysa Gardner

It's Dylan upending expectations once again, another left turn in a career filled with them, sharing his wisdom and defining himself through the lines of others."
Los Angeles TimesRandall Roberts

"It may be the most straightforwardly enjoyable album Dylan's made since Time Out of Mind. "Shadows In The Night is quite gorgeous, the sound of an old man picking over memories, lost loves, regrets, triumphs and fading hopes amid an ambient tumble of haunting electric instrumentation. It is spooky, bittersweet, mesmerizingly moving and showcases the best singing from Dylan in 25 years….[An] extraordinary record."

It's a record to remember to, to dream to, and -- most of all -- to feel to."
No Depression Anne Margaret Daniel

"A tour-de-force of restrained genius….This is indisputably the singer's most memorable vocal performance in years: irreducibly "Dylan", yet freighted with an unexpected beauty that powerfully reinforces these tales of love, loss and sorrow - and refracted through some of the most tantalizing melodies ever committed to manuscript."
GQ.com UK Bill Prince

"[A] stunning new album….Dylan turns the tired standards into introspective, wise musical poems, just as Sinatra did."
Boston HeraldJed Gottlieb

"A gem…., once you get past the initial shock of hearing Dylan crooning classics, the biggest surprise is how successfully he pulls it off. How deftly he avoids what could easily have been a ridiculous train wreck. And how he manages to pay respect to timeless songs and an immortal artist — while still doing things his way."
Toronto SunDarryl Sterdan

"The performances are almost painfully heartfelt and direct…. Dylan exposes a raw emotional vulnerability that jumps out at the listener…. The music is actually enhanced by Dylan's willingness to move outside his comfort zone. Isn't that what we want from our boldest creative spirits?"
Daily BeastTed Gioia

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, is proud to announce that Manic Street Preachers (the influential post-punk industrial modern rock band formed in Blackwood Wales in 1986) will celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Holy Bible (MSP's third studio album) with "The Holy Bible Tour," the group's first North American concert dates in six years, and the release of The Holy Bible 20, a newly expanded edition of the widely acclaimed masterpiece.

Legacy Recordings logo. Division of SONY Music Entertainment.

Originally released on Epic Records in 1994, The Holy Bible has proved pivotal in the evolution of Manic Street Preachers and the alternative rock music landscape bridging the 20th and 21st centuries.   A 1995 US tour, planned in support of The Holy Bible, was cancelled when Richey Edwards, MSP's principle lyricist and rhythm guitarist, disappeared, under mysterious and still unknown circumstances, on February 1, 1995.  Edwards' last live show with the Manics was on December 21, 1994 and The Holy Bible contains his last recordings with the band.

Following Edwards' disappearance, the Manic Street Preachers continued to record, tour and develop in his absence, creating a discography of powerful and influential albums and singles and becoming one of the UK's biggest bands in the process.  In 2014, MSP released the critically acclaimed UK #2 studio album Futurology and The Holy Bible 20, the definitive collector's edition of the group's 1994 watershed.

In late 2014, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of The Holy Bible, the Manic Street Preachers mounted a UK tour of concerts - which sold out in 9 minutes - featuring the album performed live, in sequence and entirety, for the first time ever.  Overwhelming demand prompted a second run of The Holy Bible live shows for 2015 in Edinburgh, Wolverhampton, Southampton and Cardiff Castle.

In addition to performing The Holy Bible on the North American tour the band will also play classic tracks and rarities from their extensive back catalogue.

A deluxe edition of The Holy Bible (20th Anniversary Edition) was released in the UK on December 9, 2014.  An ultra deluxe physical edition of the album, featuring a 12" vinyl LP and 4CDs, is slated for release on March 10, 2015.  A limited edition 12" vinyl LP picture disc is being struck for release on Record Store Day 2015 (April 18).

In 2015 the concert will be directed by one of the most distinguished conductors, Zubin Mehta.

On New Year's Day, from the legendary venue of Vienna's flower-filled Musikverein, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra presents a heart-warming program drawn mainly from the waltzes and polkas of the Strauss dynasty – Johann father and son, as well as Josef and Eduard Strauss – and their contemporaries. The proven formula blends old favourites with less-known works that have never been performed before at the New Year´s Concert. In 2015 these traditions continue, but there is one significant break with the past: the programme, previously a closely guarded secret until a few days before the event, has already been announced.

This year works by the Strauss family, five of which are premieres at the New Year's Concert, are complemented by Franz von Suppé's overture "Morning, Midday, Evening in Vienna" and the "Champagne Gallop" by Hans Christian Lumbye. The works performed for the first time are the waltz "On the Elbe" and the "Student Polka" by Johann Strauss the Younger, his father's "Freedom March", and one polka each by Josef Strauss ("Viennese Life") and Eduard Strauss ("Where One Laughs and Lives"). The annual concert is inconceivable without two pieces that always number among the encores (not included in the list of tracks below): the "Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss the Younger, and his father's "Radetzky March".

Zubin Mehta is no stranger to audiences at the New Year's Concert. In the words of the official announcement by the Vienna Philharmonic, "In the course of our 53-year artistic collaboration, which has long since developed into a close personal friendship, Zubin Mehta has conducted the New Year's Concert four times (1990, 1995, 1998, 2007). With this new invitation, the orchestra pays tribute not only to one of the leading conductors of our time, but also to the great humanist, Zubin Mehta."

Born in 1936 in India, Zubin Mehta completed his musical education in Vienna under Hans Swarovsky at the Music Academy. Vienna was the city where he made his conducting debut in 1958, and in 1961 Mehta took the baton for his first concert with the Vienna Philharmonic. Following many years as director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and later the New York Philharmonic, he now fills various roles including musical director for life of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and chief conductor of the Maggio Musicale festival in Florence. In 2001 he was awarded honorary membership of the Vienna Philharmonic after 40 years of artistic collaboration that make him the orchestra's longest serving conductor.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra goes back to 1842, when Otto Nicolai conducted a Grand Concert with all members of the imperial court opera. This event is regarded as the origin of the orchestra. Since its founding the orchestra has been managed by a democratically elected administrative committee and works with artistic, organisational and financial autonomy. In the 20th century the Vienna Philharmonic had important artistic collaborations with Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Wilhelm Furtwängler and – after 1945 – with honorary conductors Karl Böhm and Herbert von Karajan. The orchestra has performed approximately 7000 concerts on all five continents since its creation, and has presented Vienna Philharmonic Weeks in New York since 1989 and in Japan since 1993.

The tradition of the New Year's Concert began in 1939. Its first conductor, Clemens Krauss, was succeeded in 1955 by Willi Boskovsky, who conducted this event 25 times until 1979. The list of conductors who have led the New Year's Concert since then is a who's who of maestros. In 1959 it was broadcast live on television for the first time.

Dec 08, 2014 | The Last Internationale Guitarist Edgey Pires To Be Honored At 2014 PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS

CEREMONY SET FOR DECEMBER 10 AT UNITED NATIONS HEAD OFFICE IN NEW YORK

Dec 8, 2014

NEW YORK, Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of his artistic contributions and political activism, Guitarist Edgey Pires of The Last Internationale will be honored at the 2014 PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS. The artist receives this esteemed honor amongst a total of 20 Portuguese and Brazilian actors, cultural influencers, journalists, and other trailblazers. The gala ceremony takes place at the United Nations head office in New York City on December 10, 2014.

Edgey graduated from college with a degree in Political Science and went on to write two books, Fighting for Freedom: Because A Better World is Possible (Planting Seeds Press) and Negative Dialectics: How to Accurately Interpret the World (unpublished). This marks a significant milestone for both Edgey and the critically acclaimed New York band.

"The UN is where Che Guevara delivered an incendiary speech against US imperialism. It is where Hugo Chaves, decades later, gave a similar speech in which he condemned 'the devil', George W. Bush, who had spoken from the same podium the day before. It is where KRS ONE went to get Hip Hop officially recognized as an international culture. It is where the Security Council vote on which poor, innocent people in remote parts of the world will get bombs dropped on their heads. It is outside of this building that I have held many banners and shouted for human rights and seen many of my fellow Comrades get tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, beat and dragged off by police," said Edgey. "So when I found out that I was being given the Luso-Brazilian Award at the UN for my artistic achievements and social activism, I was as much shocked as I was honored to be included on the right side of this contentious history. Since the event falls on Human Rights Day, I will also be standing outside (once again) demanding that we get some human rights right here at home. I urge everyone from around the world to head out into the streets and fight for a different world."

During the evening, the PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS bestows a statue and a diploma upon all honorees. The event aims to bolster and encourage Portuguese and Brazilian communities in the U.S. through recognizing the culture's luminaries and their respective contributions.

This news concludes a monumental year for The Last Internationale. They recently unveiled their star-studded music video for "A Wanted Man" and performed a powerful "Call For Action" show regarding Prop 47 in South Los Angeles. They are now gearing up to launch a campaign around the rising Student Debt Crisis. The band is passionate about this issue and is planning a more formal announcement early next year.

The Last Internationale first emerged in 2013 with their independent EP, New York, 'I Do Mind Dying. Legendary Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello made an introduction between Delila Paz and Edgy Pires and his longtime bandmate Brad Wilk. The drummer ended up joining the group, and they unleashed We Will Reign this past summer. They've performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and recently supported Robert Plant on tour.
