Birthday greets to Moby Grape's Skip Spence, one of rock's all-time great eccentrics and the perpetrator of the ultimate cult album "Oar" (now available WITH extra tracks on CD from Columbia/Legacy) born this day in 1944. (Insane trivia: the Oar Folkjokeopus record store in Minneapolis was named -- in part -- after Spence's unbelievable solo debut.)
