  • Sony Music Group Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Jan 13, 2022

On Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, each year at Sony Music Group, we celebrate his legacy by rededicating ourselves to the movement he and several civil rights pioneers led for social justice, equality and service to communities. We reflect on the progress made while acknowledging the considerable work that remains as we strive for a more just and equal society.

This year, the King family is focusing on taking action to support voting rights legislation in the U.S. Their campaign concentrates on passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and Freedom to Vote Act. To support these efforts, SMG is making donations to the Drum Major Institute, The King Center and the National Civil Rights Museum, all of which are directly connected to the King family and support their organization’s mission.

Through our Global Social Justice Fund, we’ve proudly supported civic participation and organizations leading the movement on U.S. voting reform. We’ve built meaningful partnerships with organizations like the APIA Vote, National Black Justice Coalition, Rock the Vote, Voto Latino, When We All Vote and many more.

SMG proudly represents diverse voices, cultures and communities through our music and our creators. On Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and every day, we continue to champion the core values we, and our artists and songwriters, believe in, and we will work to advance the efforts of Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

A list of educational resources was shared with U.S. employees to learn more about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy.
