Biopic will showcase the ‘Queen of the Rancheras’ trailblazing accomplishments and lasting legacy
This cinematic tribute will highlight Rocío Dúrcal’s extraordinary career, her impact on Latin music, and her role in popularizing ranchera and bolero genres while celebrating her contributions as an iconic artist, who captivated worldwide audiences and left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape
Nearly two decades after her passing, the legacy of the legendary and internationally renowned Spanish singer and actress Rocío Dúrcal will be brought to the big screen in a highly anticipated film.
Produced by Sony Music Vision, in partnership with Sony Music Mexico, and Dean Altit of ALTIT MEDIA GROUP (“The Misfits,” “The Good Neighbor”), the biopic is set to captivate the hearts and souls of audiences in Mexico, Spain, Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic community and will inspire women of all ages and cultures to embrace their potential.
According to Roberto López, President of Sony Music Mexico, “We are proud to pay a very deserving tribute to Rocío Dúrcal’s career by celebrating her legacy and ensuring that her cultural impact remains intact in the industry and society. Additionally, this movie is the best way to introduce the new division of Sony Music Vision in México to the world.” López added that “in partnership with Altit Media Group, our goal is to produce a fiction film that reaches both Dúrcal’s existing fans and helps her music find new audiences around the world.”

Rocio Dúrcal began her artistic career in her native Spain before going on to become Mexico’s darling and one of Spain’s most celebrated singers across the Atlantic. Throughout her career, she received a Latin GrammyⓇ for Musical Excellence in 2005, three nominations for the Grammy AwardsⓇ, and three nominations for the Latin GrammyⓇ. Additionally, she appeared in over twenty films, recorded more than 20 albums, garnered over 11 billion audio and video streams worldwide, and sold more than 40 million albums. Her songs, featured in videos totaling over 13 billion views on TikTok, prove her impact in younger generations.
Celebrated as a visionary and exemplary woman, Dúrcal’s strength and talent have inspired and empowered women around the world to fight for their rights long before the widespread push for gender equality. When Dúrcal passed away in 2006, millions of fans across her native country, Latin America and the US said their last goodbye by remembering some of her most beloved songs, such as “La Gata Bajo la Lluvia,” “Déjame Vivir” and “Amor Eterno” Now, they will have another chance to sing along when the movie is released to the public.
