Partnership Will Develop Robust Slate of Original Content Across Multiple Platforms Featuring Stories From America’s South
NEW YORK AND NASHVILLE – February 28, 2022 – Award-winning producer, recording artist manager and President/CEO of Sandbox Entertainment Jason Owen and Sony Music Entertainment’s (SME) Premium Content Division today announced a development agreement with Sandbox Productions to produce a slate of original long-form projects across multiple platforms and distributors.
Under the multi-year agreement, Sandbox Productions, led by Jason Owen, and SME will collaborate on the creation, production and distribution of scripted and unscripted content across TV, film and digital formats, including the development of the definitive June Carter Cash documentary film. Featuring unprecedented access to the Cash Estate, including never before heard interviews with Cash family members and archival footage, the film will trace June Carter’s roots and showcase her incredible journey to country music superstardom.
The companies have also partnered on the premiere of LOVE,TOM, a letter of hope narrated over the course of a single night in Nashville by GRAMMY, Oscar and Golden Globe nominated songwriter Tom Douglas. The standalone and structured performance is now streaming on Paramount+.
Through the partnership Sandbox Productions, will consult and collaborate with a wide network of writers, directors, on-screen talent, musical artists, and visual artists to provide creative direction on additional new and developing projects. A powerhouse producer and acclaimed manager, Owen will tap into his vast expertise and deep connections within the music industry to create a library of projects that tell the stories of music, history, and culture set in the south
SME’s Premium Content Division will distribute and finance all joint-venture projects.
