New Season of Smoke Screen From Neon Hum, Sony Music Entertainment and Bloomberg Spotlights the International Bleach Conspiracy Ignited by the Genesis II Church
New York and Los Angeles – February 1, 2023 – Neon Hum and Sony Music Entertainment, in partnership with Bloomberg, today launched Smoke Screen: Deadly Cure, a new season of its hit investigative podcast series exploring and exposing stories of alleged fraud and deception. This season dissects the story of a family that convinced tens of thousands of people across the world to buy a miracle liquid of poison, something that experts agree is toxic and for which family members are now being prosecuted. Subscribers to The Binge can listen to all episodes, all at once today.
Hosted by Bloomberg health journalist Kristen V. Brown, Smoke Screen: Deadly Cure spotlights the Grenon family, the creators of Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, an organization that encouraged people to purchase and ingest a toxic bleaching agent they called Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) as a sacrament. The eight-episode series tracks the rise and fall of the group’s dangerous scheme amidst a heightened misconception that bleach products reportedly cured COVID-19, as well as the rag tag activists and keyboard warriors who chased them down for years, known as “The Bleach Hunters.”
“The Grenon family and Genesis II church exploited the mistrust that people have in their government and health-care system, ” said host Kristen V. Brown. “Deadly Cure shows how toxic misinformation gains hold in the public view, and what it takes to stop the people spreading it.”
Smoke Screen: Deadly Cure is based on reporting by Thomas Buckley in Bloomberg Businessweek. It is a production of Neon Hum Media and Sony Music Entertainment in collaboration with Bloomberg. It is hosted by health journalist Kristen V Brown. Executive producer at Neon Hum is Jonathan Hirsch.
