This week, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to pass The Equality Act (HR 5), comprehensive legislation to protect the LGBTQ community across all areas of life. Sony Music Group is a proud member of The Business Coalition for the Equality Act—made up of 345 companies, including Sony Music Group—publicly supporting the bill’s passage.  

The Equality Act creates clear, consistent protections to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity under federal civil rights laws, including the areas of employment, education, housing, credit, jury service and public accommodations. The bill also expands the scope of the Civil Rights Act to public spaces and services (e.g. banks, retail stores, and transportation) strengthening protections for everyone.
