Jul 01, 2015 | Sony Classical Releases MAX Original Motion Picture Soundtrack -- Album Available Now

Composed By Trevor Rabin

Jul 1, 2015

NEW YORK, July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Classical announces release of the soundtrack to Warner Bros. Pictures' and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures' film MAX. With music composed by one of Hollywood's most in-demand film composers, Trevor Rabin, the soundtrack is available now digitally and on CD

MAX, a family action adventure from co-writer/director Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans, Now You See Me), is a coming-of-age story about a young teen from a family dealing with loss, who finds friendship, comfort and adventure with the heroic military dog of his fallen brother, a United States Marine who served his country on the frontlines of the war in Afghanistan.

Composer Trevor Rabin (Armageddon, Deep Blue Sea, The Great Raid, National Treasure and Snakes On A Plane) created an equally adventurous and uplifting soundtrack. By combining suspenseful sequences and heroic highlights with both classical and contemporary tone colors, Rabin managed to arrange a score that is inspiring and entertaining.

Rabin, a South African born guitarist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, producer and recording engineer, has earned a worldwide reputation for his innovative work as a musician and composer, scoring over three dozen films. He has received numerous awards including eleven BMI Film and TV Awards, a Grammy, a Lifetime Achievement Award (Los Angeles Music Awards), a Career Achievement Award (Temecula International Film Festival), and Gold Medal for Excellence in Film Music Award (Park City Film Festival). His theme music also backs the American baseball and basketball games and his Remember The Titans score reverberates behind the Olympic Games telecasts. Trevor has created music that crosses barriers and genres that have made him one of the premier composers of contemporary music.

About MAX

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures comes "Max," a family action adventure from writer/director Boaz Yakin ("Remember the Titans," "Fresh").

A precision-trained military dog, Max serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan alongside his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott.  But when things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service.

Sent stateside, the only human he seems willing to connect with is Kyle's teenage brother, Justin, so Max is saved when he is adopted by Kyle's family. But Justin has issues of his own, including living up to his father's expectations, and he isn't interested in taking responsibility for his brother's troubled dog.  However, Max may be Justin's only chance to discover what really happened to his brother that day on the front, and with the help of Carmen, a tough-talking young teen who has a way with dogs, Justin begins to appreciate his canine companion.

Justin's growing trust in Max helps the four-legged veteran revert back to his heroic self, and as the pair race to unravel the mystery, they find more excitement—and danger—than they bargained for.  But they each might also find an unlikely new best friend…in each other.

"Max" stars Josh Wiggins ("Hellion") as Justin Wincott, Lauren Graham (TV's "Parenthood") as his mom, Pamela, and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church ("Sideways") as his dad, Ray.

Yakin directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Sheldon Lettich ("Rambo III," "Double Impact").  Karen Rosenfelt ("Marley & Me," the "Twilight" series) and Ken Blancato ("The Book Thief") produced the film, with Ben Ormand and Yakin serving as executive producers.

Yakin's behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Stefan Czapsky ("Safe"), production designer Kalina Ivanov ("The Vow," "Little Miss Sunshine"), editor Bill Pankow ("The Untouchables," "Let's Be Cops") and costume designer Ellen Lutter ("Grown Ups," "50 First Dates).  The music is by Trevor Rabin ("Grudge Match," "Remember the Titans").

Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures present, a Sunswept Entertainment production, a Boaz Yakin movie, "Max."  The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company and MGM.  It has been rated PG for action violence, peril, brief language and some thematic elements.

Jun 29, 2015 | Longtime Friends, Cellist Yo-Yo Ma & Pianist Kathryn Stott Collaborate On New Album Songs From The Arc Of Life

Available September 18, 2015 on Sony Classical

Jun 29, 2015

NEW YORK, June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Kathryn Stott create a unique classical music experience with their new Sony Classical recording Songs from the Arc of Life available September 18, 2015. This all-new recording also celebrates thirty years of friendship and collaboration in concerts and recordings for Ma and Stott. The album includes pieces they have frequently performed but never recorded, as well as a handful of discoveries.

"I like to think of Songs from the Arc of Life as an invitation to our audience to remember and imagine what the soundtracks of their lives might be," Yo-Yo Ma says.  "Kathy and I have talked for years about recording an album of music we absolutely love, pieces that express the context of a life, of our lives.  Childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle age, old age: what do they sound like?"

"I love this title," Stott says, "the 'Arc of Life' – because it is one big arc. Once we arrived at the idea, we began to see a beautiful story, a journey through life's experiences. It has taken us a long time and much discussion, back and forth, to discover what that journey might be, because everyone's journey is slightly different."

Songs from the Arc of Life begins and ends with two, much-beloved settings of the traditional "Ave Maria," opening with the soaring, radiant Bach/Gounod arrangement and closing with Schubert's more serene, contemplative version.

In between is a remarkable spectrum of music that includes such enduring favorites as Brahms' "Lullaby," Dvorak's "Songs My Mother Taught Me," Elgar's "Salut d'amour," Gade's "Jalousie" and Saint-Saens' "The Swan," as well as richly evocative works by Debussy, Delius, Faure, Gershwin, Grieg, Kriesler, Messaien, Schumann, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. Ma and Stott also include a haunting piece by the contemporary composer Giovanni Sollima, a friend and colleague of both artists.

In addition to beginning his fourth decade of collaboration with Stott, Yo-Yo Ma is celebrating a milestone birthday this year.  "Turning sixty has me wondering what the future might bring, but also reflecting on what has passed," Ma says. "Kathy and I have known one another since we were in our twenties. We have a shared performing history and thousands of conversations and experiences and we're delighted, through Songs from the Arc of Life, to share them with you."

Jun 17, 2015 | Columbia Partners With Wicked Cool Records To Release First New Darlene Love Album In Decades, 'Introducing Darlene Love' Due Out This Fall

New Album Features Songs Written By Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Desmond Child, Joan Jett, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, And Others

Jun 17, 2015

NEW YORK, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Guitar great/artist/producer/E Street Band icon Stevie Van Zandt has signed seminal pop legend Darlene Love to his Wicked Cool label, partnering with Columbia Records to release a new album by Love coming this fall, titled Introducing Darlene Love.  Van Zandt arranged and produced the album, enlisting a star-studded cast to contribute songs to Love's return to Marquee-pop music making, including, among others, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt, Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Desmond Child, Joan Jett, and legendary songwriting team Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who for more than five decades have reigned as one of the most influential songwriting duos in history.

The highly anticipated album will be released in early autumn, with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Love imbuing new and classic songs with her signature dynamic vocal delivery that the New York Times has hailed as "a thunderbolt voice embedded in the history of rock n' roll…" and Rolling Stone has called "a rare instrument sturdy enough to vault over Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound.'"

The epic E Street Band guitarist commented on the forthcoming release: "Darlene's legendary status is well deserved but I felt the time was long overdue to show a younger generation WHY she has earned that reputation.  Partnering with Columbia Records is a dream come true because now I know the world will hear her."

Love's five-decade career spans some of the greatest signature moments in music, with the Los Angeles native nurturing her talent early as a member of the Blossoms, a local trio who began providing backup vocals at recording sessions for artists such as Sam Cooke and Bobbie Day. The Blossoms also were featured as part of the house band for the popular '60s music show Shindig, backing up many of the performers who appeared on the series. Love would go on to become one of the most sought-after background singers in music history, recording with Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, The Righteous Brothers, and dozens of other vocal giants throughout her career. Her early work with iconic producer Phil Spector on songs such as the pioneering "He's A Rebel," "He's Sure The Boy I Love," and "Why Do Lover's Break Each Other's Hearts," would garner her legend status. She is featured in the 2013 Academy Award winning documentary '20 Feet From Stardom,' chronicling the behind-the-scenes lives of background singers. The accompanying album won a 2014 Grammy in the Best Music Film category.

The prolific Van Zandt creates a compelling production aesthetic on Introducing Darlene Love, echoing the classic recording style of many early '60s pop standards on the forthcoming Columbia Records/Wicked Cool release, available everywhere this fall.

The most successful export from continental Europe with more than 100 million records sold, Scorpions are celebrating 50 years of rock with the release of their 19th studio album, Return To Forever (Sony Music/Legacy Recordings), on September 11, 2015.

"We have been overwhelmed with the amazing response to our new album across the globe and can't wait to finally release Return To Forever in North America," said Klaus Meine.  "We have always had such a special connection with our incredible fans and are so excited to get them the new album and return to play live this fall."

Scorpions have also launched an official D2C store with exciting offerings for fans featuring brand new t-shirt and sweatshirt designs coupled with the CD and Vinyl versions of Return To Forever. Also included in each bundle is an exclusive "fanified" poster that will feature every fan's name on it who pre-orders Return To Forever through the D2C site by August 14th. Visit for more details.

Return To Forever celebrates a spectacular global return for Scorpions as the album is already available in many parts of the world breaking and remaining in the Top 10 in multiple markets including Finland, France, Germany, Greece (#1), Hungary, Japan and Switzerland, with continued chart activity in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Holland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.!

When Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar) and Matthias Jabs (lead guitar) conceived this record, the idea was to revisit their past, recording updated outtakes and unfinished song ideas from their most famous 80's sessions.  Mathias Jabs explains, "There had been quite a few unused songs over the years that were really good, but in the end didn't make the cut back then due to the limited space on vinyl. We focused on eight songs, which were partly finished which we then recorded from scratch. During the work, new song ideas were added. We were having so much fun we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of the songwriting process once again. And in the end, it turned out to be a brand-new Scorpions album after all."

Return To Forever includes first single, "We Built this House," – capturing all the elements that make for the signature Scorpions sound, luring verses with an anthemic chorus – purists will be thrilled! Additional selections include the sweeping "House Of Cards," "Eye Of The Storm" – a track, that transports a notion of the unbelievable dynamic and joy of playing, characterizing Scorpions' stage performances, and "We Built This House" where the band reflects the past fifty years – their philosophy and the lessons their unusual life taught them.  "In the end, it tells our story" said Klaus Meine. "We've built this house called Scorpions brick by brick and often quite arduously. From the first days in Hannover, the first concerts abroad, until this very day. We've weathered severe storms, but the house withstood everything, turned out to be weatherproof and stable. However, building the house was never just cumbersome, but joyful as well. The joy of music, the joy of having experienced and still experiencing it all, the joy of – and the thankfulness for – the fan's affection."

The fact that the 50th band anniversary was coming up, hit Rudolf Schenker rather accidentally: "Not long ago I found an old cash account book of my mom's, in which she meticulously recorded the earnings and expenses of the band from fifty years ago. My parents had lent me the money for the first equipment back then, so they kept a of record of my earnings so I could pay them back in installments. Fifty years is a long time for a working band. Apart from us, only the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and The Who have managed to do it. So the timing for the new album is perfect; We're celebrating half a century of Scorpions with the record and the upcoming tour."

Scorpions remain a band able to attract masses of new fans at any given time. A fact that surprises even the musicians themselves, as they gladly admit. "It's really remarkable", says Rudolf Schenker, for example, "how well and mostly unharmed we've survived those years, in which our kind of music seemed to have gotten out of style completely. When the grunge wave hit the shore, we simply went to Asia to tap new markets and gain new fans. We were able to continue playing and keep on winning new friends for our music."

Founded in Hannover, West Germany in 1965, Scorpions were part of the first wave of metal in the 1970's with their debut album, Lonesome Crow, released in 1972.  The band rose to arena status with seminal releases Lovedrive, Virgin Killer and Animal Magnetism.  In the 80s, Scorpions amassed a string of Billboard chart toppers from Love at First Sting and Blackout, including multiple Top 10 singles "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "No One Like You," as well a string of successful singles such as "Send Me an Angel," "Still Loving You" and "Winds of Change." The band was also ranked #46 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and their hit "Rock You Like a Hurricane" also landed as #18 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.  Celebrated across the globe, the iconic rock act have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, and have received multiple honors including World Music Award winners, a postage stamp in Brazil, their Star on Hollywood Rock Walk, Echo honors, most recently they were honored with the Lower Saxon State Award.

Scorpions Return to Forever 50th Anniversary Tour, featuring longtime members Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, alongside James Kottak (drums) and Paweł Mąciwoda (bass), kicks off in May 2015 with dates in four continents. For these milestone shows, Scorpions have built a career-spanning setlist of Scorpion's hits, anthems, ballads and vintage classics.  North American dates also feature special guests Queensryche.

The Festival will also feature a special Concert By The Sea panel on September 19, 2015 including Geri Allen, Steve Rosenthal, and Monterey Jazz Festival Board Member (who attended the original Concert By The Sea) Jim Costello, moderated by Erroll Garner Jazz Project Director and Ethnomusicologist Jocelyn Arem.

Liner note writers include Geri Allen, Award-winning author and UCLA American Studies Professor Robin D.G. Kelley, PHd, and GRAMMY®Award-winning jazz writer Dan Morgenstern who writes: "I don't think I need to tell you how significant a figure Erroll Garner is in the history of American music. His artistry transcended categories over four decades. Without ever saying a word or indulging in showbiz trimmings, he could just play the piano and hold thousands enraptured."

Sony Legacy President Adam Block remarks, "Concert By The Sea is a marvelous, mystical album that has been allowed to dangle on the periphery of broader recognition for far too long. Now for the first time, the complete recording and the remarkable story of this masterpiece can be heard and understood in all its glory. This really is a significant release – critically important to the preservation of one of the truly epic moments in live recorded performances."

Producer Geri Allen remarks, "Erroll Garner personifies the joy of fearless virtuosity and exploration. One of the defining precursors to bebop, piano giant Erroll Garner embodied the very spirit of swing and free improvisation from every vantage point. His playing celebrated the greatest swinging big bands through an innovative and impossible pianism. Singular yet all embracing, Garner blurred the line between great art and popular art, and he was a staunch journeyman of the blues and his Pittsburgh legacy."

University of Pittsburgh's Bettye J. and Ralph E. Bailey Dean of the Kenneth P. Dietrick School of Arts and Sciences writes, "The Erroll Garner archive is an amazing legacy of a renowned jazz icon, a brilliant piano virtuoso, and one of the most original and individualistic pianists in the jazz narrative. Jun 15, 2015 | Emily West Releases Debut Album All For You - Available August 14, 2015

NEW YORK, June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Singer-songwriter and vocal powerhouse, Emily West releases her debut album All For You , available August 14th (Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks).

Currently headlining a multi-city tour, the America's Got Talent Season 9 finalist brings a series of weekly performances of her one-woman show to New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Chicago through June. West is also the opening act for comedian Jay Leno, and will commence her fall tour in September.

All For You features four original songs including "Bitter," the first single. raves that "'Bitter'…swells and soars thanks to West's impassioned vocals. Heartbreak has never sounded quite this uplifting." The music video for the track premiered on Yahoo Music - check it out here.

West wrote three other tracks on the album with K.S. Rhoads: "Battles" she notes "came from a quote that K.S. read by Ian Maclaren saying 'Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle,' so we wrote a song from three points of view." "Glorianna" is "a song we wrote with high hopes that someone like Andrea Bocelli would sing it. Little did I know that when we were writing it, it'd go on my record! K.S. and I both cried when we were writing it. We couldn't stop. The Angels were among us that day."

On "Fallin'," West and Rhoads deliberately evoked "Billie Holiday and an old-school kind of song that dealt honestly about situations in life." The song takes an unexpected tragic turn at the end, and is one of West's favorite originals.

The album also includes several covers of major hits that fans of AGT will remember from her season on the show.

West sang the 1959 pop hit "Sea of Love" at her first AGT audition. "I was cat sitting in New York, trying to figure out what songs to sing—and terrified," she recalls, adding, "I tried to cut it like Patsy Cline might have, and make it my own and from a woman's perspective."

David Guetta and Usher's "Without You" comes from West's generation of music, though she gave it more of a gospel interpretation: "It's definitely a pop song, but when I focused on the lyrics, it became more like a worship song, expressing the need for a higher power—and I sing it like that instead of a relationship song."

For her second AGT audition, West performed Roy Orbison's 1989 hit "You Got It." Here she broke down" the lyrics by turning it into "a girl's song—haunting like the Righteous Brothers, and '50s-sounding."

Cyndi Lauper's classic "True Colors" carries great personal meaning for West in that she grew up listening to her. "She's my hero, and I try to teach all the little girls I know about her as an empowering woman and inspirational songwriter."

Rounding out the album are two songs that West performed so memorably on AGT: "Nights in White Satin," which is special because "it's my parents' love song" and "Chandelier," a track she was initially unsure whether she could perform credibly, but ultimately made it her own.

The Waterloo, Iowa native, moved to Nashville at the age of 18, where she honed her songwriting and performance skills in the local clubs. Soon after arriving, West landed a publishing and record label deal and released three country singles. She was also nominated with duet partner Keith Urban for the Academy of Country Music Awards in the category of "Vocal Event of the Year" for their song "Blue Sky."

Driven by her love and fear of New York City, West got on a plane, got lost on the subway, and found herself auditioning for AGT.  This gave her the opportunity to demonstrate her vulnerability and versatility to a wide audience.

All for You culminates a dizzying climb from West's relatively humble origins as a country recording artist to national recognition after being championed by AGT judge Howard Stern and coming in second in the finals.

Since AGT, West signed to Portrait Records, and in December she shared the stage with her hero Cyndi Lauper at Lauper's annual Home For The Holidays benefit concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York. She also co-hosted the red carpet at the first American Country Countdown Awards in Nashville and has performed the National Anthem at numerous sporting events for the NHL, MLB, NBA, WNBA and the Kentucky Derby.

West also released a video collaboration with Postmodern Jukebox, a Roy Orbison-esque version of Kanye West and Paul McCartney's "Only One."

Making Their U.S. Debut in July With Performance Dates in New York & Los Angeles

Jun 12, 2015

NEW YORK, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh from the global success of their debut No.1 album, Stars, last year's Britain's Got Talent champions Collabro return with their follow-up album Act TwoAvailable in the U.S. on July 10 via Portrait Records, Act Two debuted this week at No. 2 on the U.K album chart.  The band also made their return to BGT for a homecoming performance - check it out here.

Collabro will make their U.S. debut at venues in New York and Los Angeles this summer to mark the release of their sophomore album. On July 15, the group will perform at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.  Then on July 21, they will perform at the acclaimed Vibrato Jazz Club in Los Angeles.

Act Two follows the band as they expand their musical horizons, recording some of the greatest songs of the last 30 years, which have influenced them as a band. The album includes some surprising re-interpretations of recent pop music's finest moments including Kodaline's smash "All I Want," Christina Perri's hit ballad "A Thousand Years" and "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz. There's also a moving rendition of The Rembrandts' world-famous "I'll Be There For You," which the boys debuted on their tour at the start of this year, and has quickly garnered a following by Collabro fans around the globe.

From the world of film and musical theatre the band takes on the likes of "Music Of The Night" from The Phantom of the Opera (selected by their Facebook fans from a poll of songs for the band to perform), "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables and "The Circle of Life" from The Lion King.

Following a huge sell-out tour of the U.K.'s theatres and auditoriums at the start of the year, the remainder of 2015 will push Collabro to expand their exposure to global audiences.  Demand and popularity has led to appearances all across Europe and Asia, where their fanbase is continuing to grow at a rapid pace.

Michael Auger, Richard Hadfield, Jamie Lambert, Matt Pagan and Thomas Redgrave only became Collabro at the start of 2014 and it's been a steady stream of incredible moments since then. Following their runaway Britain's Got Talent victory last summer, Collabro have already released a No.1 Gold certified album and special edition follow up, performed at the Royal Variety Show for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, and written and released 'Our Story,' their first band memoir.

Jun 12, 2015 | Natalie Imbruglia, The Platinum-Selling Artist Returns with New Album Inspired by Her Favorite Male Songwriters

Male - Available July 31, 2015

Today Show appearance on July 30th

Jun 12, 2015

NEW YORK, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Three-time Grammy nominee, songwriter, actor and model, Natalie Imbruglia returns with the release of her new album Male on July 31, 2015 (Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks).

Imbruglia, best known for her 1997 hit song "Torn" and the accompanying video, finds inspiration for her new album from male songwriters that she loves.  As the title suggests, Male - her first album since 2009 - is a collection of classic and contemporary songs all performed by men including Cat Stevens ("The Wind"), Tom Petty ("The Waiting"), Neil Young ("Only Love Can Break Your Heart"), Damien Rice ("Cannonball"), Pete Townshend ("Let My Love Open the Door") and Sam Beam of Iron & Wine ("Naked As We Came").

Of the album concept, Imbruglia, who hails from Australia says, "I was drawn to songs by men, but wanted to show a woman's take on them. I also wanted something organic and vocally-driven, not heavily produced, and with real musicians. Most importantly, I had to be emotionally connected to all of the songs."

Male's first single is the lead track "Instant Crush," which was originally recorded by the electro-pop Grammy winners Daft Punk.  The song was written by the duo's Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, along with The Strokes' Julian Casablancas who also sang on the original track.  The music video made its debut exclusively on Entertainment Tonight and - check it out here.

"On the original version, you can't really hear what the song is about because of the effect that Julian's voice has, which I love, by the way," says Imbruglia. "However, it is such a beautiful story that I want people to hear it and connect with the words. I'm really proud of the way it turned out."

Also central to Imbruglia's Male concept was her desire to find songs that could be transformed by a female's interpretation. She did just that with producer Billy Mann, who has also worked with artists like Pink, John Legend, Celine Dion, Martina McBride, and Sting, among others.

"It was about finding different ways to recreate songs from a female point of view, and at the same time staying true to the original," continues Imbruglia. "A lot of them were written by artists I love, whose music has had a big effect on me.  However, I also discovered others for the first time, like the Zac Brown Band and their song 'Goodbye in His Eyes,' which made the process a lot of fun. My voice really lends itself to that song, and I love a little bit of country."

Imbruglia likewise gives a surprising country approach to The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love." Her version employs a banjitar banjo/guitar combo. "I can tell this song is going to be one of my favorites to play live, I love it."

"Torn" still sounds fresh today as evidenced by its ongoing radio airplay and ubiquity on multiple Spotify playlists, which have generated over 30 million streams. While this iconic hit brought Imbruglia international fame along with three Grammy nominations and the 1998 MTV Video Music Award for "Best New Artist," she is a woman of many talents. Her pop music success followed an acting role in the long-running Australian TV drama series Neighbours, in which she played the role of Beth Brennan. Over the last three years she has been studying acting in Los Angeles and also made her U.K. stage debut in Alan Aycbourn's Things We Do For Love.  Imbruglia is a global ambassador for Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation for The Virgin Group and is the spokesperson for the U.N campaign to end fistula.

Jun 10, 2015 | Outlaw Country Legends Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard Rockin' America's Charts with 1st Week's Sales of Django and Jimmie, their New Release on Legacy Recordings

Highly Acclaimed New Collaboration Debuts at #1 on Billboard's Country Albums Chart and #7 on Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart

Jun 10, 2015

NEW YORK, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Django and Jimmie (Legacy Recordings), the new album collaboration from legendary American artists Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, is emerging a crossover sensation, entering the Billboard Country Albums chart at #1 while going Top 10 (#7) on the Billboard 200 Bestselling Albums chart.

Willie and Merle, two of the original architects of American outlaw country music, last shared a #1 Country album together with the release of their classic Pancho & Lefty in January 1983.

Willie Nelson's last #1 Country album was 2014's Band of Brothers, his fourth release for Legacy. Django and Jimmie is Willie's fourth Legacy release to go Top 5 Country and third to break into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200.

"The chart-topping success of Django and Jimmie is another milestone in the remarkable journeys of Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard," said Adam Block, President, Legacy Recordings.  "Their latest achievement is a testimony to the ongoing vitality of their careers, the timeless quality of their music, and, most importantly, the enduring bond of their friendship."

Helmed by Nelson's longtime producer Buddy Cannon, Django and Jimmie finds Willie joining forces with friend and collaborator Merle Haggard  for 14 brand-new studio recordings including "Django and Jimmie," a dual tribute to jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and Jimmie Rodgers, "Missing Ol' Johnny Cash," an homage to country music's original Man in Black featuring guest vocals from Bobby Bare; the future outlaw country classic "Unfair Weather Friend," written by rising songsmiths Marla Cannon-Goodman (Buddy Cannon's daughter) and Ward Davis, and "It's All Going to Pot" (a rollicking anthem for the emerging 21st century cannabis culture).

Fans are invited to go behind-the-scenes at Arlyn Studios for The Making of Django and Jimmie:

Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard's new outlaw country masterpiece has been garnering rave reviews alongside its burgeoning popular success.

According to NPR, "...nearly any track on Django and Jimmie will likely lift the spirits of even the gloomiest listener," while American Songwriter noted that "'s still a joy to hear the two of them trade vocals on a thoroughly enjoyable set of 14 songs."

Rolling Stone called out the album's single, "It's All Going To Pot," as "...two masters nailing the right song at the right time."

Yahoo! summed up Django and Jimmie as "...remarkable..." while the Los Angeles Times observed that while "...both men are widely regarded as two of the greatest living country songwriters, whose music has shaped the sound of the genre for six decades.... it's the spirit of their voices that registers."

"Veracity makes Django and Jimmie a marvel," wrote Paste, "mixing novelty, pathos and classics. What emerges is a core sample of what made these men...endure for half a century.... Just hearing them make the music they want is plenty."

"Me and Merle got a new album called Django and Jimmie and the title track is about Django Reinhardt and Jimmie Rodgers," said Willie Nelson prior to the record release on June 2. "Both of those guys were very influential in both of our careers."

Merle Haggard added that there's "new songs, a couple of classics and Willie sang like he was a teenager."

Willie summed up the duo's new collaboration simply saying, "It's good music, I got a good feeling about it."

The release of Django and Jimmie on Legacy Recordings coincides with the recent publication of "It's A Long Story: My Life," the definitive autobiography of Willie Nelson. Coauthored with David Ritz, "It's A Long Story" is "the unvarnished, complete story of Willie Nelson's life, told in his distinct voice and leaving no moment or experience unturned, from Texas and Nashville to Hawaii and his legendary bus."

The book is the second autobiography written by Nelson, following his 1988 publication "Willie: An Autobiography." In October 2013, Little, Brown and Company announced the new book for 2015.

For Django and Jimmie, Willie Nelson's sixth studio album release for Legacy since inking an historic deal with the label in 2012, the legendary singer-songwriter joined forces with longtime friend and collaborator Merle Haggard to reignite the musical chemistry that made the pair's Pancho & Lefty a honky-tonk blockbuster and America's #1 Country Album following its release in January 1983. Pancho & Lefty solidified the reputations of both Willie and Merle as among the most formidable and influential artists in outlaw country music while topping the Billboard Country charts for seven non-consecutive weeks between April and October 1983.

The success of Pancho & Lefty opened the doors for a number of successful follow-up projects including 1987's Seashores Of Old Mexico album, 2007's double album Last Of The Breed with Ray Price, the Merle Haggard-penned "A Horse Called Music" (the lead track on 2012's Heroes, Willie Nelson's first album for Legacy) and a show-stopping duet of Merle's classic "Okie From Muskogee" performed at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in 2014.

1995's self-titled third album proved 311's breakthrough, earning RIAA 3x platinum certification while catapulting them to the forefront of alternative music. The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983), a monumental 23-disc box set, to be released on Friday, August 21, 2015

An essential library collection chronicling the sonic evolution and abiding achievements of the unprecedented R&B ensemble, The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) follows The Isley Brothers through their transformation from a 1950's doo-wop/gospel vocal group into the world's preeminent R&B rock 'n' soul powerhouse party band. As evidenced in this quarter century of recordings, The Isley Brothers absorbed the music and culture surrounding them to continually create contemporary sounds spanning the decades.

The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) showcases tracks written (excepting "covers"), arranged, performed and produced by The Isley Brothers.  This definitive new Isley Brothers anthology was compiled and produced by Grammy Award®-winner Leo Sacks, co-produced by Jeffrey James and Jeremy Holiday, and mastered from the original analog tapes by Grammy Award®-winner Mark Wilder at Battery Studios.

The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) features  newly remastered versions of The Isley Brothers' 21 albums released for both labels, nearly all of which are expanded with rare mixes and tracks making their CD and digital debuts.  The new collection includes 84 rare and previously unreleased bonus tracks.

This set also includes, released here for the first time in its entirety, the "Great Lost Isley Brothers Album": Wild In Woodstock: The Isley Brothers Live At Bearsville Sound Studio 1980.  First conceived as a "live" double album (with overdubbed crowd noise), this newly restored performance offers an immersive look at a crucial chapter in The Isley Brothers' history, a pivotal moment in the fusion of rock and funk music in an era fueled by the sound of the Isleys.

By the 1990s, The Isley Brothers' dominant influence over hip-hop music and culture could be felt at every turn. "Footsteps In The Dark" from 1977's Go For Your Guns was sampled in Ice Cube's "It Was A Good Day," while The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" interpolated the title track of 1983's Between The Sheets. The Isleys' flashy fashion sense directly inspired the "bling" aesthetic embraced by rappers everywhere. R. Kelly proclaimed the group his biggest influence, collaborating with them on his Top 5 hit "Down Low (Nobody Has To Know)" in 1995 (featuring Ronald Isley in a career-redefining role as Mr. Biggs in the accompanying video). Kelly's writing and production for the group continued through the 1990s and 2000s, peaking with Body Kiss which hit No. 1 the Billboard 200 in 2003, a full 44 years since their first hit with "Shout."

The Isley Brothers' classic works continue to reach new fans through consistent radio airplay, film and television licenses and samples: in 2015, Kendrick Lamar won two Grammy Awards® for the track "I," built upon the groove of "That Lady" (from 1973's 3+3), while singer/rapper Frank Ocean covered "At Your Best (You Are Love)" from Harvest For The World (previously covered by Aaliyah in 1994, who made it a Top 10 hit).

The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) offers new music fans an opportunity to revisit the seminal R&B sounds that continue to reverberate through contemporary soul, rock, hip-hop and pop records.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, The Isley Brothers--O'Kelly Isley, Jr., Rudolph Isley, Ronald Isley and a fourth brother, Vernon Isley (who died a couple of years after their first incarnation)--began performing as a gospel-based vocal group in 1954.  Moving to the New York City area in the late 1950s, The Isley Brothers scored some modest regional chart successes before their fourth single (and first for RCA Victor), "Shout"--written by O'Kelly, Rudolph and Ronald--catapulted them into the pantheon of pop immortality in 1959.  One of the most immediately identifiable and infectious party anthems ever written or recorded, The Isley Brothers "Shout"--with its irresistible call-and-response structure--combined gospel heat and doo-wop soul with a high-powered rock 'n' roll energy.  The much-covered "Shout" was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 1999 and placed No. 118 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

The Isleys followed up "Shout" with a variety of tracks (including their Top 20 single, "Twist & Shout," a song later famously covered by The Beatles).

Perhaps the most musically adventurous vocal ensemble in American pop history, The Isley Brothers were adding rock, funk, R&B, soul and ballad elements into the gospel and doo-wop music at the foundation of their sound.

In the 1960s, while The Isley Brothers bounced between various labels (including Atlantic, United Artists and Motown), they briefly employed a then-unknown Jimi Hendrix (aka Jimmy James) as their lead guitarist, buying him a white Fender Stratocaster guitar and moving him into the Isley home.   Though Jimi's stint with the Isley Brothers was brief, his musical sensibilities remained in the group, with younger brother Ernie Isley carrying the fiery experimental rock 'n' soul guitar sound they shared into the Isley Brothers future.

Tired of labels that didn't fully understand or support their R&B/rock fusion musical vision, The Isley Brothers launched their independent T-Neck imprint with distribution through Buddah Records. At T-Neck, the Isleys finally enjoyed the freedom to make music the way they wanted, recording and producing their own material as well as assisting in the distribution and promotion process. The T-Neck label's lead single, the irresistible Grammy Award®-winning funk hit "It's Your Thing," instantly established the band and label as a commercial powerhouse, its lyric a mantra for the trail The Isley Brothers would blaze in the next decade.

The Isleys' ever-expanding musical repertoire in the 1970s included funky covers of pop/rock favorites ("Love The One You're With," "Lay, Lady, Lay") that helped spread these songs through urban markets. The group would hit a new peak with the album 3+3 and single "That Lady" in 1973.

They added younger brothers Ernie Isley (lead guitar, drums) and Marvin Isley (bass guitar) and Rudolph's brother-in-law Chris Jasper (keyboards, synthesizers) into the mix, turning The Isley Brothers vocal trio into a self-contained pop/rock/R&B/funk ensemble, writing, producing, performing, arranging, distributing their own works on T-Neck Records throughout the 1970s into the early 1980s.

With Ernie, Chris and Marvin leading the way creatively, the group pushed the barriers of soul music, bringing funk and laid-back quiet storm into the mainstream and earning the band three gold and seven platinum or multi-platinum albums--including 3+3 (1973), the #1 chart-topping The Heat Is On (1975) and 1983's Between The Sheets--and 14 Top 10 R&B albums (seven of which hit No. 1). In the world of R&B, only Parliament-Funkadelic and Earth, Wind & Fire have achieved success rivaling the Isley Brothers.

The Isley Brothers have had 19 Top 10 singles (7 of those at #1) in the US Billboard R&B chart, with 16 Isley albums hitting the Top 40.  13 of their albums have achieved RIAA gold, platinum or multi-platinum status.  The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.  They got their star on the Hollywood Rockwalk in 1997 and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.

The Isley Brothers, through an unprecedented seven decades, have remained one of the most consistently successful groups of all time. The Isleys were present at the birth of rock and roll, their biggest hits have influenced R&B, rock and roll and funk music from the 1950s onward while their deep grooves helped form the rhythmic backbone of hip-hop, a sound the Isleys would embrace in the 1990s and 2000s.

Still active as a duo of Ronald and Ernie Isley, The Isley Brothers earned a Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.  The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) brings all of their works for the Sony Music family into one impressive package.

Feb 11, 2015 | Bob Dylan's Shadows In The Night Album Becomes Worldwide Hit

Feb 11, 2015

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Dylan's new album, Shadows In The Night, has debuted in the Top Ten in 13 countries spanning the globe, including #1 chart entries in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Ireland, #2 in the Netherlands and Switzerland, #3 in Austria, Japan and Spain, #6 in Germany and Belgium, #8 in Finland and #10 in Canada.  The album has also debuted at #7 in the United States, making it the artist's 17th studio album to debut in the Top 10 in this country.

Bob Dylan's Shadows In The Night Album Becomes Worldwide Hit

Showcasing the artist's singular interpretive artistry on ten classic American songs, Shadows In The Night is the 36th studio album from Dylan and the first since the release of his worldwide hit Tempest in 2012.  Produced by Jack Frost, Dylan's unique approach to recording the songs included refining complicated arrangements for 30-piece orchestras down to those uniquely tailored for his five-piece band.

The high worldwide chart entries of Shadows In The Night comes on the heels of Dylan's honor as Musicares Person Of The Year at a sold-out ceremony in Los Angeles on February 6.  The event raised more than $7 million for Musicares, the most in the 25-year history of the event.  Following performances of Bob Dylan songs by a who's who of contemporary musicians – including Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Norah Jones, Jack White, Willie Nelson, Beck, Bonnie Raitt and many others – Dylan held the audience rapt with a wide-ranging, nearly 40-minute speech that has now been excerpted in countless media outlets around the world.  The complete transcript of Dylan's speech, taken directly from the artist's handwritten notes, has been reproduced in its entirety in the New York Times and can be found here:

Critical response to Shadows In The Night has been rapturous, with rave reviews coming in from around the globe:

  • David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone, "The great shock here is Dylan's singing. Dylan's focus and his diction evoke his late-Sixties poise and clarity with an eccentric rhythmic patience in the way he holds words and notes across the faint suggestions of tempo. It is not crooning. It is suspense."
  • The Los Angeles Times's Randall Roberts summed up his thoughts in his review, writing, "Ten songs, 34 minutes, a soaring lifetime's worth of emotion conveyed with the fearlessness of a cliff diver spinning flips and risking belly flops in the open air — that's Dylan and his band on the graceful, often breathtaking Shadows.…Profound, thematically devastating and so well curated as to feel essential."
  • USA Today's Elysa Gardner opined, "To have a songwriter of Dylan's stature champion interpretive singing is cause for celebration. The genuine care and knowing he brings to a different American pop tradition, to the music and lyrics – it's something wonderful."
  • In his 5-star review of the album, The Guardian's Alex Petridis wrote, "It may be the most straightforwardly enjoyable album Dylan's made since Time Out of Mind. He's an unlikely candidate to join the serried ranks of rock stars tackling standards: appropriately enough, given that Frank Sinatra sang all these songs before him, he does it his way, and to dazzling effect."
  • In another 5-star review, Mojo's Michael Simmons wrote, "While countless other contemporaries have recorded Great American Songbook collections, Shadows In The Night -- Dylan's flat-out brilliant contribution to the concept – is not, by any definition, a recreation of the past. His singing on Shadows is his best vocalizing in years – in-studio or out. He glides with the melodies and relaxes into them, enjoying the ride that these gems provide….Much will be made of the autumnal theme: from the age of the material to songs that address mortality. But this extraordinary record is more refreshing burst than last gasp and its timelessness speaks more to life than death."

Concurrent with the release of Shadows In The Night is a 9,000-word interview with Dylan in AARP The Magazine.  Conducted by the publication's Editor-In Chief Robert Love, the interview is one of the most extensive of Dylan's career and covers a broad array of topics, including Frank Sinatra's enduring influence, Irving Berlin, recording of the new album, whether young people find songs from the '40s and '50s to be 'corny,' corporate influence in the U.S., his period of self-seclusion in the mid-1960s and growing up without television, to name only several.  The interview can be found in its entirety on AARP's website (

Bob Dylan's five previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while "Love and Theft" continued Dylan's Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.

Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist's most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist's first album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in five other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies.  Tempest received unanimous worldwide critical acclaim upon release and reached the Top 5 in 14 countries, while the artist's globe-spanning concert tours of the past few years have heavily emphasized that album's singular repertoire.

These five releases fell within a 15-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, "Things Have Changed," from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best-selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his first collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist's royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.

In recent years, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor. He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for "his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power." He was also the recipient of the Officier de la Legion d'honneur in 2013, Sweden's Polar Music Award in 2000, Doctorates from the University of St. Andrews and Princeton University, as well as numerous other honors.

Bob Dylan has sold more than 125 million records around the world.

It's Dylan upending expectations once again, another left turn in a career filled with them, sharing his wisdom and defining himself through the lines of others." Los Angeles TimesRandall Roberts

"It may be the most straightforwardly enjoyable album Dylan's made since Time Out of Mind. He's an unlikely candidate to join the serried ranks of rock stars tackling standards: appropriately enough, given that Frank Sinatra sang all these songs before him, he does it his way, and to dazzling effect." Alex PetridisThe Guardian

"Shadows In The Night is quite gorgeous, the sound of an old man picking over memories, lost loves, regrets, triumphs and fading hopes amid an ambient tumble of haunting electric instrumentation. It is spooky, bittersweet, mesmerisingly moving and showcases the best singing from Dylan in 25 years….[An] extraordinary record. The Telegraph Neil McCormick

"The sound of Shadows In The Night is clear as water.  Not only can you hear every word, every note, that Dylan sings, but you can hear him draw breath before beginning to sing, and sighing out the end of a line.  The instrumentals – even the infrequent horns, and soft, subtle drums – don't ever drown him out.  You're as close as the microphone, making this record feel as intensely personal as, perhaps, it is to its maker.  Dylan sings these songs intimately, sometimes conversationally, with emotion and humor….Shadows In The Night is an early valentine to us all.  It's music to dance to in someone's arms, slowly, with half-forgotten steps in the formal patterns of long ago.  It's a record to remember to, to dream to, and -- most of all -- to feel to." No Depression Anne Margaret Daniel

"A tour-de-force of restrained genius….This is indisputably the singer's most memorable vocal performance in years: irreducibly "Dylan", yet freighted with an unexpected beauty that powerfully reinforces these tales of love, loss and sorrow - and refracted through some of the most tantalising melodies ever committed to manuscript." UK Bill Prince

"[A] stunning new album….Dylan turns the tired standards into introspective, wise musical poems, just as Sinatra did."Boston HeraldJed Gottlieb

"A gem…., once you get past the initial shock of hearing Dylan crooning classics, the biggest surprise is how successfully he pulls it off. How deftly he avoids what could easily have been a ridiculous train wreck. And how he manages to pay respect to timeless songs and an immortal artist — while still doing things his way." Toronto SunDarryl Sterdan

"The performances are almost painfully heartfelt and direct…. Dylan exposes a raw emotional vulnerability that jumps out at the listener…. The music is actually enhanced by Dylan's willingness to move outside his comfort zone. Isn't that what we want from our boldest creative spirits?" Daily BeastTed Gioia

Dec 08, 2014 | The Last Internationale Guitarist Edgey Pires To Be Honored At 2014 PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS

Dec 8, 2014

NEW YORK, Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of his artistic contributions and political activism, Guitarist Edgey Pires of The Last Internationale will be honored at the 2014 PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS. The artist receives this esteemed honor amongst a total of 20 Portuguese and Brazilian actors, cultural influencers, journalists, and other trailblazers. The gala ceremony takes place at the United Nations head office in New York City on December 10, 2014.

Edgey graduated from college with a degree in Political Science and went on to write two books, Fighting for Freedom: Because A Better World is Possible (Planting Seeds Press) and Negative Dialectics: How to Accurately Interpret the World (unpublished). This marks a significant milestone for both Edgey and the critically acclaimed New York band.

"The UN is where Che Guevara delivered an incendiary speech against US imperialism. It is where Hugo Chaves, decades later, gave a similar speech in which he condemned 'the devil', George W. Bush, who had spoken from the same podium the day before. It is where KRS ONE went to get Hip Hop officially recognized as an international culture. It is where the Security Council vote on which poor, innocent people in remote parts of the world will get bombs dropped on their heads. It is outside of this building that I have held many banners and shouted for human rights and seen many of my fellow Comrades get tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, beat and dragged off by police," said Edgey. "So when I found out that I was being given the Luso-Brazilian Award at the UN for my artistic achievements and social activism, I was as much shocked as I was honored to be included on the right side of this contentious history. Since the event falls on Human Rights Day, I will also be standing outside (once again) demanding that we get some human rights right here at home. I urge everyone from around the world to head out into the streets and fight for a different world."

During the evening, the PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS bestows a statue and a diploma upon all honorees. The event aims to bolster and encourage Portuguese and Brazilian communities in the U.S. through recognizing the culture's luminaries and their respective contributions.

This news concludes a monumental year for The Last Internationale. They recently unveiled their star-studded music video for "A Wanted Man" and performed a powerful "Call For Action" show regarding Prop 47 in South Los Angeles. They are now gearing up to launch a campaign around the rising Student Debt Crisis. The band is passionate about this issue and is planning a more formal announcement early next year.

The Last Internationale first emerged in 2013 with their independent EP, New York, 'I Do Mind Dying. Legendary Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello made an introduction between Delila Paz and Edgy Pires and his longtime bandmate Brad Wilk. The drummer ended up joining the group, and they unleashed We Will Reign this past summer. They've performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and recently supported Robert Plant on tour.
