NEW YORK, June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Masterworks Broadway announces its Summer 2016 releases including three classic albums from the archives – Sid and Marty Krofft's Les Poupees de Paris – 1964 World Fair Recording (July 8), I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road – Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording (August 8), and Alice Through the Looking Glass – 1966 Television Soundtrack Recording (September 9). Upon release, each title will be accompanied by new album pages and photos on MasterworksBroadway.com.
Sid and Marty Krofft's Les Poupees de Paris is the Grammy-nominated soundtrack from an elaborate puppet show performed on tour and at the 1964 World's Fair. With the voices of Pearl Bailey, Milton Berle, Cyd Charisse, Annie Fargé, Gene Kelly, Liberace, Jayne Mansfield, Tony Martin, Phil Silvers, Loretta Young and Edie Adams, the score features music and lyrics by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen. Known for bringing a psychedelic sensibility to children's TV with shows like "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour," "H.R. Pufnstuf" and "Land of the Lost," the Krofft's got their start with similar puppet shows performed in nightclubs. Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen, the multi award-winning Songwriter's Hall of Fame duo, are known as the team behind some of Frank Sinatra's most famous hits including "Come Fly with Me," "Only the Lonely," and "Come Dance with Me." Sid and Marty Krofft's Les Poupees de Paris will be officially released for the first time on CD in the U.S. July 8, with streaming and downloads available the same day.
Originally produced by Joseph Papp for the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater, I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road, was a milestone in the integration of rock-and-roll and musical theater. It opened June 14, 1978 at the Public Theater and later moved to the Circle in the Square for a total of 1,165 performances, making it one of the most successful Off-Broadway musicals of all time. The book and lyrics are by Gretchen Cryer, who also starred as the lead character Heather Jones in the original production, with music by Nancy Ford. The show follows Jones as she puts together her new cabaret act featuring songs about her own empowerment (she's just been through a bitter divorce), much to the dismay of her director who tries to convince her to go back to her old act. The show was nominated for Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, and its cast album received a Grammy nomination. Recordings of Cryer and Ford's Off-Broadway musicals Now Is the Time for All Good Men (1967) and The Last Sweet Days of Isaac (1970) are also available from Masterworks Broadway. I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road – Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording will be released on August 8, with streaming and downloads available the same day.
In Alice Through The Looking Glass, Elsie Simmons and Moose Charlap set Lewis Carroll's timeless classic to music for the NBC television special. First aired November 6, 1966, the star-studded production included Ricardo Montalban, Agnes Moorehead, Jack Palance, Jimmy Durante and the Smothers Brothers. The Television Soundtrack of Alice Through The Looking Glass will be officially released for the first time on CD in the U.S. September 9, with streaming and downloads available the same day.

NEW YORK, June 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston progressive folk duo Tall Heights have announced the release of their debut major label LP, Neptune, out August 19 on Sony Music Masterworks. Neptune is the follow up to 2015's Holding On, Holding Out EP which was met with critical acclaim from outlets like NPR and Wall Street Journal who compared their emotive harmonies and poignant lyrics to the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Sigur Ros and Bon Iver. Of particular note is the track "Spirit Cold", the lead single from the forthcoming release which has quickly reached over 5.6 Million streams on Spotify. This week, Stereogum premiered the lush, winsome follow up single "River Wider". We encourage you to post and share here!
The multi-talented singer songwriters, composers, and instrumentalists featuring Paul Wright on cello/vocals and Tim Harrington on acoustic guitar/vocals got their start busking on the streets of Boston, growing up in a neighboring town in Massachusetts. Neptune is a far lusher construct than those early acoustic days — along with pristine and emotive vocal harmonies, there's subtly chugging electric guitar and a spare descending bassline on "Iron in the Fire," ethereal synthesizers and a spacious drum part on "Spirit Cold," a brittle splash of percussion to open "Backwards and Forwards" and feedback created by two cellphones on "Cross My Mind."
The band is on tour all Summer through Autumn including an opening slot for José González. See full list of dates HERE. For a taste of Tall Heights' captivating live show, watch the band's stunning live performance of album single "Spirit Cold" HERE.

New Video From The New Album of Miles Davis Recordings Reimagined by Robert Glasper - EVERYTHING'S BEAUTIFUL
Out Now Featuring Badu, KING, John Scofield, Bilal, Ledisi, DJ Spinna, Stevie Wonder, Laura Mvula, Hiatus Kaiyote & More
Jun 24, 2016
NEW YORK, June 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Longtime friends, collaborators and Grammy-winning musicians Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper have teamed up again for the track & video for "Maiysha (So Long)", from new album Everything's Beautiful--the visionary exploration of Miles Davis' music, featuring reimagined interpretations of his music produced by Glasper. The track's lyrics were written by Badu, and were based on "Maiysha" by Davis.
The video, entitled "So Long…That's What She Said," which Badu describes as having the feel of a short film, was conceptualized, written and directed by Badu. In keeping with the song's deceptively humorous lyrics, the "short" is a somewhat satirical wink at the musical performances from the classic variety shows of the '50s and '60s. The video stars a neurotic, beatnik chanteuse named Sarah Bellam—one of Badu's many personas—with Glasper as her tormented keyboard player and lover. The video also features a cameo by acclaimed harmonicist Frédéric Yonnet as the trumpet player performing Miles Davis' solo. The supporting musicians include Rashad "Ringo" Smith, drums, and Braylon Lacy, bass.
The "short" was co-produced by Badu's own Control Freaq Media and long-time collaborators Coodie and Chike of Creative Control, the team behind Badu's 2010 acclaimed and controversial "Window Seat" music video. In support of the video's release, Badu and Control Freaq Media have crafted a unique digital marketing campaign that includes a series of movie inspired posters, animated GIFs, and exclusive bonus content announced on Badu's social media platforms. Watch the video here: http://smarturl.it/Maiysha_So_Long
Everything's Beautiful is out now and is part of Columbia/Legacy's commemoration of the globally renowned music innovator's 90th birthday. Released in late-May, the album debuted at #1 on Billboard's Jazz Album chart, and first week sales saw Davis charting the highest he ever has on the R&B Album Chart (#5), R&B/Hip Hop Album Chart (#10) and the Tastemaker Album Chart (#17).
The album is a beautifully crafted collection produced by Glasper, blending a diverse group of master takes and outtakes from across the incomparable Miles Davis Columbia catalog with an impressive lineup of contemporary artists and musicians to create original interpretations. Some of the featured guest artists on Everything's Beautiful include Illa J, Erykah Badu, Bilal, Phonte, Hiatus Kaiyote, Laura Mvula, KING, Georgia Ann Muldrow, John Scofield, Ledisi, DJ Spinna and Stevie Wonder.
Everything's Beautiful is unlike any other in Davis' discography. From the familiar (riffs and passages within the catalog) to the obscure (samples of Miles' in-studio instructions spoken after false starts), Glasper has built something unique but still unquestionably Miles. The album was executive produced with members of Davis' family—Erin Davis, Cheryl Davis and Vince Wilburn, Jr. from Miles Davis Properties, LLC. The cover art was created by Francine Turk and integrates elements of Miles Davis' artwork. With the cover, Turk creates a visual that is similar to the idea of Robert Glasper taking fragments of Miles music and reinterpreting in a unique and modern way. Everything's Beautiful is available now via iTunes (http://smarturl.it/Davis_Glasper_iTunes) and at the official Miles Davis store on milesdavis.com.
Erykah Badu is a four-time GRAMMY award-winning singer, songwriter and producer who also describes herself as a "DJ, director, activist, holistic healer, doula, veggie, bgirl, observer, and hustler." Regarded as the Queen of Neo Soul, Badu's sound—a concoction of soul, hip-hop and jazz—cannot be confined to a single genre. She has released five universally acclaimed studio albums and one live album. Last November, Badu released her first collection of songs in five years with the mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone, which included her viral take on Drake's "Hotline Bling" as well as a collaboration with Andre 3000. This summer, Badu appears in The Land, a film that debuted at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Definitive Compilation of Presley's Last Sessions--Recorded in Graceland's Legendary «Jungle Room»--Includes Studio Masters, Rare Alternate Takes and 16-page Booklet
Jun 16, 2016
NEW YORK, June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- RCA Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a definitive new 2CD collection of Elvis Presley's last studio recordings, on Friday, August 5.
The most complete and comprehensive collection of Presley's final studio recordings ever assembled in one anthology, Way Down In The Jungle Room is an essential and welcome addition for every fan's library. In the mid-1970s, Elvis, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, became another kind of pioneer as one of the world's first major recording artists to create fully-realized professional level records in the intimacy of his own home studio.
With original recordings executive-produced by Elvis Presley with producer Felton Jarvis (who'd helmed most of Elvis' records from 1966-1977), Way Down In The Jungle Room brings together, for the first time in one collection, master recordings and rare outtakes laid down during two mythic sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Graceland's den--known as the "Jungle Room"--which was converted into a professional caliber recording studio for the purpose of capturing these indelible performances. The outtakes have been newly mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.
For these sessions, Elvis was backed by many members of his longtime touring band including: James Burton (guitar), Ronnie Tutt (drums), David Briggs (keyboards), Glenn D. Hardin (keyboards), Jerry Scheff (bass), Norbert Putnam (bass) and J.D. Sumner & the Stamps (vocals).
In 1976, when the tracks for Way Down In The Jungle Room were cut, Elvis Presley had been an RCA Records recording artist for 20 years, inventing the sound and attitude that defined the very essence of rock 'n' roll. That same year, RCA released The Sun Sessions, the label's first official collection of the electrifying 1954-1955 Elvis recordings that launched his career while transforming the world.
Having entered his 40s, Elvis Presley was evolving as an artist and, rather than bask in the nostalgia of his 1950s watershed recordings, was looking for new ways to express himself musically. Needing to create new sounds for a new era, Elvis Presley--who'd been charting on Country and Adult Contemporary stations--decided to convert the Hawaiian-themed "Jungle Room" (a relaxation den in his fabled Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee) into an informal home studio, where he could lay down tracks the way he wanted, outside the budget and scheduling pressures of the professional studios he'd worked in previously. With the help of RCA's mobile recording truck and longtime producer Felton Jarvis and engineer Mike Moran at the board, Elvis tackled a far-ranging mix of country and pop covers ("Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," "Danny Boy," "Solitaire") and late-period classics of his catalog, such as "Moody Blue" and "Way Down."
Ten of the "Jungle Room" master takes first emerged on From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee in the spring of 1976, including the Top 10 hit "Hurt." More tracks from these sessions were later paired with live material and released in July 1977 (a month before Elvis' death on August 16) on the Moody Blue album. The title track would top the country charts that month; "Way Down" would follow. These were the last studio albums released during Elvis' lifetime.
According to the album's producers, Way Down In The Jungle Room has been resequenced to "bring a fresh perspective to the material." The material on Disc 2 - The Outtakes was mixed for this collection at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis and includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a "fly-on-the-wall experience of what the sessions were like." With the exception of track 13 ("She Thinks I Still Care"), the performances on Disc 2 have been sequenced in the order they were recorded.
Way Down In The Jungle Room with also be available on 150g 12" vinyl in a 2LP gatefold sleeve and as a digital collection.

The release of "ENCORE: Movie Partners Sing Broadway" follows the recording artist's nine-city August North American concert tour: THE MUSIC…THE MEM'RIES…THE MAGIC! during which she will perform hits from her ground-breaking career.
The greatest star to ever come out of Broadway, Streisand returns to her roots with "ENCORE: Movie Partners Sing Broadway." The legendary performer rose to unprecedented fame while starring on Broadway beginning with her stage debut in "I Can Get It For You Wholesale" in 1962 and then as comedienne Fanny Brice in the Broadway production of "Funny Girl" in 1964, earning Tony nominations for both turns. Streisand's very first record album, 1963's "The Barbra Streisand album," which earned Grammys for Album of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performances, featured several Broadway standards. In 1985 Streisand released "The Broadway Album" and in 1993 "Back to Broadway;" both albums went multi-platinum.
With the longest span of number one albums in history - six decades - Streisand has recorded 52 gold, 31 platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums in her career. She is the only woman to make the All-Time Top 10 Best Selling Artists list. With the release of her last album, "Partners," Streisand has had 33 albums make the Top 10 on the US charts. She is the only female artist to have achieved this milestone, tying her with Frank Sinatra. With ten, Streisand is the female artist with the most number one albums in Billboard's history.
Widely recognized as an icon in multiple entertainment fields, Streisand has attained unprecedented achievements as a recording artist, actor, concert performer, producer, director, author and songwriter. Streisand has been awarded two Oscars, five Emmys, ten Golden Globes, eight Grammys plus two special Grammys, a special Tony award in 1970, and two CableACE Awards – the only artist to receive honors in all of those fields of endeavor. Streisand received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama this past November. Her many other honors include the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Endowment for the Arts Medal, three Peabody Awards and the French Légion d'Honneur. She is also the first female film director to receive the Kennedy Center Honors. Streisand is a devoted philanthropist who works tirelessly to fight for what she believes in. A woman of action, Streisand founded The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai and co-founded the Women's Heart Alliance, helping to raise awareness and push for more research into women's heart disease, the leading cause of death among women.

The Second Recording on His International Touring Organ Available June 3, 2016
May 27, 2016
NEW YORK, May 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Classical is pleased to announce the release of Cameron Carpenter's new album All You Need is Bach available June 3, 2016. Bach's great keyboard masterpieces provide an ideal platform for Carpenter's formidable creative gift and the seemingly limitless possibilities of his dream instrument – his signature International Touring Organ (ITO).
Bach's complete organ music has been central to Carpenter's immense and multi-faceted repertoire. For his first all-Bach release, Carpenter has created a stimulating and wide-ranging program that reveals the scope of Bach's genius. Works included on the album are Contrapunctus IX from The Art of Fugue, Organ Sonatas in D minor and E-flat major, Prelude and Fugue in B minor, French Suite No. 1, Invention No. 8, the Chorale Prelude to "O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde groß" and, as a centerpiece, the great Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. The album title All You Need Is Bach not only refers to the immense popularity of Bach, but also to The Beatles' classic 1967 recording All You Need Is Love, where Bach's Invention No. 8 in F major rises out of the coda's collage-like texture.
In creating the ITO, the organ building team of Marshall & Ogletree apply sophisticated computer technology to digitally reproduce the sounds of many diverse American pipe organs without any of their mechanisms. Carpenter can access these sounds with unprecedented immediacy and flexibility. The ITO also draws upon the scientific findings relating in the field of historically informed performance practice. For example, Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue uses the Werckmeister III in a transposition centering the Werckmeister "sweet key" on C and the Trio Sonatas are presented in Kirnberger and Kellner temperaments in D and D#. While O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde groß and the Prelude and Fugue in B minor both feature equal temperament.
Most importantly, Carpenter's virtuosity, the musical potential of the International Touring Organ, and their meeting through the lens of the unique relationship between an instrument and its designer, allow him to delve unusually deep into Bach's emotional world.
The album was recorded in Berlin's historic Jesus-Christus-Kirche, one of the world's most prestigious recording venues, often used by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic for their recordings during the 1950s until the 1980s. The ITO comes alive with the venue's renowned acoustics that offer a focused clarity at all dynamic levels - a harmonious bridging of an illustrious past and a promising future.

Album Is Available Now In CD, Vinyl & Digital Formats
May 23, 2016
NEW YORK, May 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Dylan's new album, Fallen Angels, is available now in CD, vinyl and digital formats. Showcasing the artist's singular interpretive artistry on twelve classic American songs, Fallen Angels is the 37th studio album from Dylan and the first since last year's Shadows In The Night. Produced by Jack Frost, Dylan's unique approach to recording the songs included refining complicated arrangements for 30-piece orchestras down to those uniquely tailored for his five-piece band. The album can be found at Amazon, iTunes and at all music retail outlets and major streaming services.
Critical response to Fallen Angels has been enthusiastic, with rave reviews coming in from around the globe:
- Randy Lewis wrote in The Los Angeles Times, "[Dylan] immediately liberates songs from the big band/big orchestra world from which they emerged, and in which they are most frequently revisited…. [He] reaches to the blues at the core of many of these songs. Thus, they elicit the ache of romantic yearning and loss that often gets subsumed by swelling orchestral forces, background choirs or by singers who are more focused on crafting elegant vocals than finding emotional resonance."
- Entertainment Weekly's Jim Farber opined, "Dylan alights on these words with a wry delicacy…Tellingly, he delivers these songs of love lost and cherished not with a burning passion but with the wistfulness of experience. They're memory songs now, intoned with a present sense of commitment….Standards likes these and Dylan's own songs now stand as equal American totems."
- In her 5-star review of the album, The Telegraph's Helen Brown wrote, "Like Sinatra — Dylan's always had a knockout knack for putting a lyric across. Whether whispering into your ear in the jingle jangle morning (he wrote most of his own songs at dawn) or snarling at you from the street corner, he made every word matter….Now he inhabits classic lines by songwriters like Johnny Mercer with weathered ease….These recordings have the relaxed intimacy of a band alone, playing on long after the engineer has set the levels."
- Rolling Stone's Will Hermes wrote of Dylan's singing on the album, "His phrasing remains spectacular, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hilarious" and of the musicianship, "the playing is sublime."
- In another 5-star review, NOW's Vish Khanna wrote, "Dylan highlights the art of crooning, commanding the prettiest version of his multi-faceted, distinctive voice. This album is not a trifle; in some instances, these might well be newly definitive recordings of the songs. Fallen Angels is a hazy, laid-back history lesson with as many enigmatic twists and turns as a classic double-cross caper. It subverts archetypes of romance, heroism and interpersonal connection to reveal something more sinister about human intent, all packaged in beautiful musicianship of the highest order."
Bob Dylan's six previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while "Love and Theft" continued Dylan's Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.
Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist's most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist's first album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in five other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies. Tempest received unanimous worldwide critical acclaim upon release and reached the Top 5 in 14 countries, while the artist's globe-spanning concert tours of the past few years have heavily emphasized that album's singular repertoire.
Shadows In The Night, on which Dylan paid tribute to Frank Sinatra with distinctive interpretations of ten songs previously recorded by Sinatra, debuted in the Top Ten in 14 countries. The album entered the charts at #1 in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Ireland, #2 in Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland, #3 in Austria, Japan and Spain, #6 in Germany and Belgium, #8 in Finland and #10 in Canada. The album also debuted at #6 in the United States, making it the artist's 17th studio album to debut in the Top 10 in this country.
These six releases fell within a 19-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, "Things Have Changed," from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best-selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his first collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist's royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.
In recent years, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor. He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for "his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power." He was also the recipient of the Officier de la Legion d'honneur in 2013, Sweden's Polar Music Award in 2000, Doctorates from the University of St. Andrews and Princeton University, as well as numerous other honors.
Bob Dylan has sold more than 125 million records around the world.
The Critics Have Listened
Dylan, who also produced under his pseudonym Jack Frost, immediately liberates songs from the big band/big orchestra world from which they emerged, and in which they are most frequently revisited…. Dylan reaches to the blues at the core of many of these songs. Thus, they elicit the ache of romantic yearning and loss that often gets subsumed by swelling orchestral forces, background choirs or by singers who are more focused on crafting elegant vocals than finding emotional resonance.
Los Angeles Times – Randy Lewis
"[Dylan's] phrasing remains spectacular, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hilarious, and the playing is sublime."
Rolling Stone – Will Hermes
Bob Dylan is a great singer…. His skill has always been in connection, in expression, in using his voice to capture the essence of the song he is singing. And with Fallen Angels…Dylan shows how his connection to these songs and to his fans has only grown stronger….Fallen Angels is so well-crafted, the impressive work of a great singer.
Newsday – Glenn Gamboa
Dylan alights on these words with a wry delicacy…Tellingly, he delivers these songs of love lost and cherished not with a burning passion but with the wistfulness of experience. They're memory songs now, intoned with a present sense of commitment….Standards likes these and Dylan¹s own songs now stand as equal American totems.
Entertainment Weekly – Jim Farber
Like Sinatra — Dylan's always had a knockout knack for putting a lyric across. Whether whispering into your ear in the jingle jangle morning (he wrote most of his own songs at dawn) or snarling at you from the street corner, he made every word matter….Now he inhabits classic lines by songwriters like Johnny Mercer with weathered ease….These recordings have the relaxed intimacy of a band alone, playing on long after the engineer has set the levels.
The Telegraph - Helen Brown
Dylan digs back into the treasure trove that is the American songbook. The focus here is generally on breezier fare….There is a loose, playful quality to much of the singing here, and to the tracks, which Dylan produced under his nom de studio, Jack Frost. ….This is what a seasoned performer can do with words and music, whether his own or someone else's. Dylan deserves thanks for reminding us of that, again.
USA Today – Elysa Gardner
Dylan highlights the art of crooning, commanding the prettiest version of his multi-faceted, distinctive voice. This album is not a trifle; in some instances, these might well be newly definitive recordings of the songs. Fallen Angels is a hazy, laid-back history lesson with as many enigmatic twists and turns as a classic double-cross caper. It subverts archetypes of romance, heroism and interpersonal connection to reveal something more sinister about human intent, all packaged in beautiful musicianship of the highest order.

The best-selling female recording artist in history, Streisand partners with some of Hollywood's biggest stars to sing Broadway classics on her upcoming album. Following the release of her 2014 record-breaking "Partners," "ENCORE: Movie Partners Sing Broadway" is Streisand's third and long-awaited Broadway album. Streisand released "The Broadway Album" and "Back to Broadway" in 1985 and 1993, respectfully, both of which went multi-platinum.
With the longest span of number one albums in history, Streisand has recorded 52 gold, 31 platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums in her career. She is the only woman to make the All-Time Top 10 Best Selling Artists list, an honor which includes fellow duet partners Elvis Presley and Billy Joel. Streisand also has the longest span of number one albums in history, just under 50 years.
With her live performances being so rare and special, the excitement surrounding a Streisand tour is unequaled. Following a 27-year hiatus from live concerts, Streisand's 1994 world tour garnered a record-setting 5 million phone requests to Ticketmaster and sold out within the first hour. Her shows in fall 2006 broke house records in 14 of the 16 venues in which she played (in the other two arenas, Streisand already held the buildings' records).
Streisand's last tour in 2012, BACK TO BROOKLYN, highlighted an emotional return to performing in concert in her home borough for the first time since she was in grade school. Of the first of her Brooklyn shows, which helped inaugurate the brand new Barclays Center, The New York Times praised Streisand's "spellbinding voice" and noted, "Like few singers of any age, she has the gift of conveying a primal human longing in a beautiful sound." The Los Angeles Times said she "put the audience immediately under the spell of her folksy grandiosity. Streisand ... isn't just a star — she's a world view, a style of being, an entire cosmology, with the highest possible thread-count sheets. You don't just come for the music; you come for the whole church service. The sermon, broken up into bits, is inseparable from the songs."
Following a North American run, the tour broke records throughout Europe, and culminated in two spine-tingling performances in Israel, thrilling crowds who "loved her even before a perfectly-pitched note came out of her mouth," as described by Haaretz, "and every note was, indeed perfect."
A woman of action, Streisand founded The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai, helping to raise awareness and push research into women's heart disease, the leading cause of death among women.

Called "one of R&B's most elegant accessories to seduction" in the New York Times earlier this year, Maxwell returns to the themes of love and relationships on "Lake By The Ocean." "Heartbreak is always at the core of most of the things I write," he says. "The song is about a vast unfettered love deeply connected to the intimacy one is able to share with another after a time of great struggle and betrayal. It's an expression of cleansing and escape, a washing away of the past and joining forces in love with the beauty of romance, nature and the earth."
"Lake by the Ocean," written and produced by Musze and his longtime collaborator Hod David, is a classic-sounding Maxwell hit - an elegant, slinky, yearning song that echoes his 2009 smash "Pretty Wings" or his early hit "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)."
blackSUMMERS'night is Maxwell's first album in seven years. It is the second installment in a musical trilogy that began with 2009's platinum-selling, BLACKsummers'night, which debuted at #1 and was one of the year's most critically lauded releases. The new album comes 20 years after his genre-defining debut, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite.
The singer and songwriter recorded blackSUMMERS'night in New York over the last several years. "I'm working with all of the same people on the new album. It's always been a family type of thing, and I think that that's what, maybe, has made it special. It feels, to me, even better than what we did twenty years ago," he said recently.
Maxwell redefined classic soul music in April of 1996 when he released his critically acclaimed debut on Columbia, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. It earned Grammy nominations, double platinum status and RIAA gold for the single, "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)." The platinum albums Embrya (1998) and Now (2001) followed. After eight years, 2009's BLACKsummers'night debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won two Grammys, including Best R&B Album. To date, Maxwell has achieved 13 gold and platinum certifications from the RIAA.
Maxwell will announce summer tour dates on April 11 at http://www.musze.com/.
