Recently Discovered in Sony Music Vaults, Artist's Previously Unreleased Seminal Studio Work includes Covers of Bob Dylan, Sly & the Family Stone, the Smiths, Bukka White, Led Zeppelin and More
Nov 12, 2015
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 11, 2016, Columbia/Legacy Recordings, will release You and I, the very first studio recordings made by Jeff Buckley for Columbia Records.
These 10 tracks (most of them cut in Steve Addabbo's Shelter Island Sound studio in February 1993) have gone virtually unheard for more than two decades. Recently discovered in the Sony Music archives during the research for the 20th anniversary edition of Buckley's Grace album, the performances on You and I are a revelation, an intimate portrait of the artist performing a variety of cover songs and original music expressing a range of emotion channeled through his singular sensibility.
Jeff Buckley's recording of "Everyday People" will also be made available for Record Store Day as a limited edition 7" with the B-side featuring the original recording by Sly & the Family Stone.
The songs on You and I reveal, in part, the eclectic scope of Jeff Buckley's extraordinary musical tastes and talent. The covers on the album include Jeff's highly personal interpretations of songs written by Bob Dylan ("Just Like a Woman"); Sylvester Stewart ("Everyday People," recorded by Sly & the Family Stone); Joe Green ("Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'," recorded by Louis Jordan, Ray Charles and others); Bob Telson ("Calling You," recorded by Jevetta Steele for the 1987 film Bagdad Cafe); Morrissey and Johnny Marr ("The Boy with the Thorn in His Side" and "I Know It's Over," recorded by the Smiths); Booker T. Washington "Bukka" White ("Poor Boy Long Way from Home," from a 1939 "field" recording made by John Lomax) and John Paul Jones/Jimmy Page/Robert Plant ("Night Flight," recorded by Led Zeppelin).
"Any time I take a cover and wear it on my sleeve, it's because it had something to do with my life and still marks a time in my life when I needed that song more than anything ever." Jeff Buckley, Plane Truth fanzine interview from 1994
Rounding out You and I are two pieces of original music: the first-ever studio recording of his signature song, "Grace" and "Dream of You and I," a mysterious and haunting piece which informs the deeply intimate and profoundly personal mood of the album.
Long rumored to exist, but previously unheard outside the studio, the performances on You and I have never been bootlegged or released to the public in any form. These seminal recordings are a fan's Holy Grail, a rare opportunity to hear Jeff Buckley in peak form, developing his artistry through a series of spellbinding solo performances, each one captured in pristine sonic detail.
"As we began to explore how we might celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jeff Buckley's Grace, the vault--as it still occasionally and unexpectedly will--presented us with an unbelievable gift: this 'lost' cache of studio recordings from the period," said Adam Block, President, Legacy Recordings. "We quickly realized how remarkable they were. They offer an incredible, rare glimpse of an artist, alone, in the sacred space that is the studio. There's an intimacy and an honesty to the performances that's literally breathtaking. You & I is an important addition to Jeff's recorded legacy and will be a thrill for both his devoted longtime fans and newcomers alike."
You and I is simply that, just Jeff Buckley and the listener alone together in the studio while he plays and sings the music that means the most to him in that moment.
The newly found solo tracks on You and I showcase Jeff Buckley's otherworldly once-in-a-lifetime voice, transcending technique, making a direct connection between the earthly and the divine. Named One of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, Buckley was also an accomplished electric guitarist, the 6-string accompaniments on these recordings adding astounding depth and sublime emotional dimensions to these unforgettable performances.
Born November 17, 1966, Jeff Buckley worked for several years as a session guitarist in Los Angeles. Moving to New York City in the early 1990s, he gathered a rabid following playing tiny venues, notably Sin-e in the East Village. His repertoire incorporated folk, rock, R&B, blues and jazz.
Buckley's extraordinary live shows launched one of the fiercest bidding wars of the 1990s before the artist decided to sign with Columbia Records, the home of many of his musical heroes, in October 1992. In February 1993, he went into the studio to lay down the newly uncovered tracks on You and I, which includes a never-before-heard original composition and studio versions of his Sin-e repertoire. Opting for the opportunity to capture Jeff's live performance magic, the focus pivoted from these experimental tracks to the Live At Sin-e recording sessions.
Jeff Buckley only completed one studio album, 1994's Grace, before his life and career ended tragically with his accidental drowning in Memphis on May 29, 1997.
Though scant, the Jeff Buckley discography has received universal critical accolades and continues to create new fans and followers drawn to the music of a singular visionary artist whose voice, guitar work, songwriting and interpretative skills defied all attempts at categorization.
The newly discovered studio recordings on You and I represent an essential addition to the discography of one of the great American musical artists of the 20th century, a significant look into the creative process of a developing genius.
The Columbia/Legacy release of Jeff Buckley's You and I has been overseen by the artist's mother, Mary Guibert.

'Full Circle' To Be Released March 4, 2016 On Legacy Recordings
Nov 10, 2015
NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings will release FULL CIRCLE, the first new studio album in over ten years from American music icon Loretta Lynn, on March 4, 2016. Produced by Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash, and recorded at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee, FULL CIRCLE takes listeners on a journey through Loretta's musical story, from the Appalachian folk songs and gospel music she learned as a child, to new interpretations of her classic hits and country standards, to songs newly-written for the project. Drawing inspiration from personal memories and deep connections to American music, Lynn's 13 new recordings capture the essence of these songs in intimate new performances. FULL CIRCLE is available for pre-order now at Amazon Music: http://smarturl.it/ll_fc_amzncd.
FULL CIRCLE is Loretta's first album of new recordings since Van Lear Rose, her 2004 collaboration with Jack White, which took home a pair of Grammys including Best Country Album of the Year. It is also volume one of the Cash Cabin Recordings, a series of new album projects imagined and created at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Highlights from FULL CIRCLE include "Lay Me Down," a duet with Willie Nelson; "Everything It Takes," featuring guest vocals from Elvis Costello; "Whispering Sea," a new version of the first song Loretta ever wrote; and soulful new renditions of some of Lynn's classic tunes, including rousing renditions of "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" and "Fist City." The album also includes traditional Appalachian songs from Loretta's childhood such as "Black Jack David" and "I Never Will Marry." At 83 years old, Lynn's voice sounds as powerful as ever, and this new material only adds to her legend as a performer.
Fans will also have an opportunity to watch a new documentary about Loretta's remarkable life and career when American Masters — Loretta Lynn: Still a Mountain Girl premieres nationwide Friday, March 4, 2016, 9:00-11:00 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). The film will explore the country legend's hard-fought road to stardom. From her Appalachian roots to the Oscar-winning biopic of her life, "Coal Miner's Daughter," Lynn struggled to balance family and her music career and is still going strong over 50 years later.
Loretta Lynn has long been established as the undisputed Queen of Country Music, with more than 50 years of recording and touring to her name. A self-taught guitarist and songwriter, Lynn was one of the most distinctive performers in Nashville in the 1960s and 1970s. She shook up Nashville by writing her own songs, many of which tackled boundary-pushing topics drawn from her own life experiences as a wife and mother. "Coal Miner's Daughter," "Fist City" and "Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)" are just three of 16 country No. 1 singles.
Lynn is also one of the most awarded musicians of all time. She has been inducted into more music Halls of Fame than any female recording artist, including The Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was the first woman to be named the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year in 1972. Lynn received Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 and a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. She has won four Grammy Awards (including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010) and sold more than 45 million records worldwide.

"In the past, our relationship with our musical heroes was one-sided. They released music and we listened to it. But this no longer has to be where the experience ends," says Can Misirlioglu, Group Creative Director, Havas Studio 6. "Studio A Revisited speaks to the part of all of us that wants to be in the room with Dylan, but on our own terms, in a way that's accessible, intuitive, and immediate."

"In working with Havas on the Studio A experience, we're confident we've created a unique, insightful way for fans to discover, experience, appreciate and, ideally share, some of what makes Dylan's work so timeless."

NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Music Masterworks imprint Portrait Records signs singing sensation Lexi Walker, the dynamic 13-year-old whose performance of "Let It Go" from Frozen has received over 72 million YouTube views.
Lexi's holiday-themed debut album Merry Christmas, available November 20, features traditional and new holiday songs from both sides of the Atlantic, including "O Holy Night," "Christmastime Is Here," "Pat A Pan," "When a Child is Born," plus "We Need a Little Christmas" from Broadway's Mame. It also includes her rendition of the hit "Let It Go" and more.
At just 13 years old, the eighth-grade redhead has not only starred in a viral video of "Let It Go," she has performed on America's Got Talent with the One Voice Children's Choir and sung with The Piano Guys, Kristin Chenoweth, Lindsey Stirling, and David Archuleta. She recently opened for Idina Menzel at a benefit concert in Utah. Lexi's rendition of the national anthem at a Real Salt Lake soccer game also reached millions of viewers, and she'll be belting out "The Star-Spangled Banner" again at the San Francisco 49ers-Arizona Cardinals NFL game on November 29.
Lexi has been singing ever since she can remember. Her grandmother recalls Lexi at two years old, sitting in a gift shop singing along with a stuffed bear that played the Beatles tune "I Will," over and over until a crowd started to gather. A veteran voice teacher, her grandmother realized right then that she had another talented young singer to nurture.
Since then, Lexi's explosive young career has included performances on Good Morning America, The Queen Latifah Show, CBS New York's The Couch, and numerous TV news programs. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Disney Christmas Day Parade, and Christmas for the Troops at the Kennedy Center. Based in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, she has toured Japan and the East Coast, and looks forward to bringing her music to new audiences both close to home and around the world – all while continuing to study her favorite subjects (math, science, and art) and eating plenty of sushi and Thai food along the way.

Newly Remastered for State-of-the-Art Sound, Most Comprehensive Collection of Van's Early Work Ever Assembled Includes All Tracks Recorded for THE ANGRY YOUNG THEM (1965) and THEM AGAIN (1966) Albums PLUS Singles, Demos, Live Sessions, Rarities and Alternate Takes from 1964-1967, Many Previously Unreleased
Nov 5, 2015
NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release THE COMPLETE THEM 1964-1967, a comprehensive 3CD anthology bringing together the historic first recordings of Van Morrison, on December 4, 2015.
The most thorough collection of Morrison's early studio and live performances ever assembled, THE COMPLETE THEM 1964-1967 includes all material recorded for the first two THEM albums--THE ANGRY YOUNG THEM (1965) and THEM AGAIN (1966)--in addition to singles, demos, live sessions, alternate takes and rarities (from 1964-1967), many of them long unavailable or previously unreleased.
All tracks on THE COMPLETE THEM 1964-1967 have been newly remastered for this collection, ensuring the best possible listening experience for both new and seasoned fans of Van Morrison.
An essential showcase chronicling the historic beginnings of Van Morrison's 50+ year career as one of modern rock music's most significant and influential singers, songwriters and performers, THE COMPLETE THEM 1964-1967 is being released as part of the exclusive licensing agreement struck between SME/Legacy and Morrison's own Exile Productions Ltd earlier this year.
THE COMPLETE THEM 1964-1967 package includes an insightful new commentary on THEM provided by Van Morrison.
Formed in Belfast, Ireland in the early 1960s, THEM's original five man lineup consisted of Van Morrison (lead vocals, saxophone, harmonica), Alan Henderson (bass guitar), Ronnie Millings (drums), Billy Harrison (guitar, vocals) and Eric Wrixon (keyboards). Taking their name from a 1954 science-fiction horror film, THEM played for the first time in April 1964 at Belfast's Maritime Hotel, their set consisting of raw, dynamic interpretations of R&B, blues and soul music fueled by 18-year-old Van Morrison's undeniable power, presence and charisma. Within a few weeks, THEM became the hottest band in Belfast, packing the Maritime with overflow crowds and spontaneous, dynamic shows.
Van Morrison and THEM's reputation led to a contract with Decca Records, who brought the group to the label's studio in West Hampstead, England for Van's first recording session on July 5, 1964. Van Morrison's classic "Gloria" and THEM's version of "Turn on Your Love Light" were recorded as well as THEM's first single--"Don't Start Crying Now" c/w "One Two Brown Eyes"--and "Groovin'," "Philosophy" and a smoking version of Bo Diddley's "You Can't Judge a Book by Its Cover." Session musicians were brought in to augment the THEM lineup, which would become increasingly fluid over the course of the band's brief career. It was apparent early on that Van Morrison was essentially THEM and that his trajectory as a solo artist, working with a variety of backup musicians, was inevitable.
The second THEM single--a version of Big Joe Williams' "Baby Please Don't Go" c/w Van's original composition "Gloria"--featured Jimmy Page on rhythm guitar. In December 1964, THEM appeared for the first time on television, along with the Rolling Stones on "Ready Steady Go!"
THEM's next single, "Here Comes the Night," written and produced by Bert Berns, shot up to #2 on the UK charts in March 1965 and would later become their first single in the US, where the group was marketed as part of pop music's "British Invasion." THEM charted in America in 1965 with both "Here Comes the Night" and "Mystic Eyes."
Decca released THE ANGRY YOUNG THEM in June 1965, with a US release (on Parrott Records) in July; THEM AGAIN came out in the UK in January 1966 with a subsequent US release in April 1966. THEM crossed the Atlantic for a US tour in May 1966, holding down an historic residency at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, with the Doors as their opening act. THEM headlined at the Fillmore in San Francisco with Van Morrison leaving the group later in 1966.

DVRKFUNK Available Now On OKeh / DDB Records
Oct 29, 2015
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Theo Croker and his band DVRKFUNK release a new 5-song digital EP, DVRKFUNK, via OKeh / DDB Records, available now.
The EP arrives unchecked and unfiltered. It doesn't attempt to fit any one specific category, but draws upon the core principles of Jazz. Firmly of the present, merging tones, rhythms, acoustic and electronic grooves, it draws from all genres. This innovative alchemic amalgam reflects Croker's mission to embrace the past, while freely evolving the music forward. He rejects limitations and shirks boundaries.
In describing his intention behind the EP, Croker says, "In an effort to remain honest, music must serve not only as an artistic expression of humanity through tones and rhythms, but it must also reflect the society that gave it life," says Croker. "My life experiences have allowed me to share an eclectic, global viewpoint. DVRKFUNK gives listeners a look into that world."
DVRKFUNK is a follow up to Croker's critically acclaimed 2014 release AfroPhysicist which the Wall Street Journal said was full of "...catchy tunes and pervasive, danceable funk rhythms" and Revive Music praised Croker's ability to remove the "...rigid definitions of jazz" and infuse influences of hip-hop, Afrobeat and R&B.

Igor Levit & Marina Abramovic: Bach's Goldberg Variations December 7-19, 2015 | Park Avenue Armory, Wade Thompson Drill Hall, New York
Oct 29, 2015
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Classical announces the release of Pianist Igor Levit's third album - Bach, Beethoven, Rzewski. Available October 30, the album includes Bach's Goldberg Variations and Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, long considered acid tests of the performer's art, plus Frederic Rzewski's gigantic cycle on the Chilean revolutionary song El pueblo unido, jamas sera vencido!, which has the reputation of being nearly unplayable. Not content with canonized masterpieces, Levit is equally drawn to the physical challenge of Rzewski's virtuosic tightrope walks.
In seven performances from December 7-19 in New York, Levit and iconic visual/performance artist Marina Abramovic will give the world premiere of their collaboration on the Goldberg Variations, which Levit will perform live, at the Park Avenue Armory in the Wade Thompson Drill Hall. Abramovic re-imagines the concertgoing experience by employing her Abramovic Method to explore the relationship between performer and observer, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind. This concentrated durational work reflects upon music, time, space, emptiness, and luminosity, with the audience becoming a part of the work.
Levit's vaulting artistic ambitions have been proven by his first two albums: the five late Beethoven sonatas (2013) and the six Bach partitas (2014). The response from the international media was as broad as it was universally ecstatic. In April 2014, Alex Ross of The New Yorker wrote of Levit's debut album for Sony Classical, "After a few minutes, I was transfixed. Here was playing of technical brilliance, tonal allure, intellectual drive, and an elusive quality that the Germans indicate with the word Innigkeit, or inwardness."
Today, after just a few years on the international scene, this young artist has emerged as one of the leading pianists of our time, combining supreme interpretative earnestness with sparkling technique and extraordinary versatility. He has enlarged his repertoire in many directions at once, at a dizzying pace. It may seem ambitious that Levit, aided by multiple Grammy-winner Andreas Neubronner as producer, has recorded the three most demanding sets of variations in the keyboard repertoire, all within the space of half a year. Yet he has already spent a great deal of time with all three, each of which stands for an important aspect of his work.
Since 2011 Levit has headed the chamber music program at the Heidelberg Spring Festival. It was at his initiative that Frederic Rzewski was invited this year to be the festival's artist-in-residence. Over the years all three sets of variations on this recording have been featured in Levit's Heidelberg recitals. He even played the Goldberg Variations there for the very first time in April 2015.
"Actually, variations have always been my favorite musical form," Levit confides. "The faster the change and the higher the frequency, the more I like it. I view variations like travel books: there are reports of roads leading from point A to point B, but also reports of people who set out as person X and arrive as person Y. I never know in advance how I'll experience the stops along the way or in what state of mind I'll arrive at my destination. Yet I've always felt very protected and in good hands on these journeys."
Levit made a deep study of the Diabelli Variations at the age of 17. Karl-Heinz Kammerling, the legendary professor of piano at Hanover University of Music, who died in 2012, had intuitively recognized that the wealth of sharply contrasting characters in late Beethoven were made to order for his intellectually agile protege. Kammerling's intuition proved correct: the Diabelli Variations became the piece de resistance of Levit's early career.
Levit's study of the People United Variations by composer-pianist Frederic Rzewski (b. 1938) did more than open up a new pianistic universe. For him, this utopian piece became something like a litmus test in notes: "The question it confronts us with is: What side are you on? I've been asked that, too. Am I allowed to stay in the ivory tower, or do I have to commit myself? What am I doing at all, and how am I actually living my life?"
Levit's personal encounter with the American maverick composer, long a resident of Belgium, developed into a friendship that has left its mark on him in many ways: "I consider Rzewski one of the truly important composers of our time, and I play his music wherever I can. What I also appreciate is his laid-back attitude toward the act of performance – his 'I'm not holding a lecture in philosophy, I'm making music. I strike a key, I play, and then I leave. But I don't expound any sort of magic."
Besides Beethoven, the composer Levit has studied most deeply is Bach. His recording of the partitas was praised highly by the international press. While the French Diapason stressed the cantabile qualities and naturalness of his Bach, the London Telegraph singled out his shaping of melodies and balance of timbres. The Goldberg Variations, Bach's mightiest work for keyboard (along with The Art of Fugue), has only recently entered Levit's repertoire. He approached the work from various angles, whether studying variation form per se or coming to terms with early music as a whole.
At the early age of 16, Levit sought instruction from Lajos Rovatkay, a Hungarian-born specialist in historical performance practice. Not only did Rovatkay introduce to him the vocal polyphony of Josquin and Palestrina, he also brought him into contact with the pre-Bach keyboard literature and the aesthetic of period instruments. "Today my understanding of Bach's art is heavily influenced by my knowledge of earlier text-related music. I find so much in Bach that is flowing or yearning, such dilations and caresses, feelings where speech and singing directly converge. Then of course there's always the architecture: the piece is so great that I tend to feel like a mediator, someone who has to back away because he bears such huge responsibility for an overall experience that is really quite fragile."

A deluxe edition of the album, "The Martian Deluxe Soundtrack" (Songs Album and Score) is exclusively available at Amazon here. "The Martian" also opens nationwide today and features a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon in the lead role as Astronaut Mark Watney.
The '70s-laden album is comprised of some of the greatest classics from disco's golden era (tracklist below) including "Turn The Beat Around" (Vickie Sue Robinson), "Hot Stuff" (Donna Summer), "Rock The Boat" (Hues Corporation), "Waterloo" (ABBA), and "I Will Survive"(Gloria Gaynor), and others.
The music evinces the plight of the film's protagonist, Astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon (the Bourne film series), who during a manned mission to Mars set in the not-too-distant future is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet with only meager supplies - and limited distractions - including a playlist of '70's disco music left behind by Commander Lewis played by Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar).
Watney must rally his optimistic spirit, drawing upon his ingenuity and wit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. NASA and a team of international scientists race against the clock to bring "The Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, "The Martian" features a star studded cast that includes Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover, among others.
The Martian's original motion picture score is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Shrek Franchise, Man On Fire, The Chronicles Of Narnia). Gregson-Williams also previously scored director Ridley Scott's 2005 movie Kingdom Of Heaven.

NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Capping a week of rave reviews from Rolling Stone, the L.A. Times, Entertainment Weekly, NPR's First Listen, the N.Y. Daily News (cheering the new album and crowning Darlene Love "part of the pop DNA") and others, one of the most anticipated albums of this or any year – Introducing Darlene Love is available everywhere today, including iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.
The Columbia Records/Wicked Cool release marks the first new full-length album of original pop songs in 27 years from the renowned vocalist, who has achieved legendary status for her enduring work with Phil Spector and as one of the most prolific backup singers of all time. Now, with the spirited Love deservedly back in center spotlight, the album is being welcomed to worldwide acclaim: "Girl group royal takes back her throne," heralded Rolling Stone, "Love comes at it like a wrecking ball, husky alto thrillingly intact..."; "A stunning collection of vibrant, dramatic rock anthems and R&B workouts...' wrote Entertainment Weekly; "Love singing at maximum intensity..." noted the L.A. Times, with the above-mentioned NY Daily News praising the album as a "'soaring work" and revealing that "Love has lost none of her talents and has never sounded more unsinkable." Electric Review proclaims, "if you're too young to have experienced first-hand the excitement that came with hearing a new Darlene Love song ache through the jukebox or car radio, Introducing Darlene Love will cast you back to a place of innocence and faith, shepherding you back to a time when people gathered in the misty fields, steadfastly holding to the belief that music was about to change the world." Produced and arranged by artist/producer/E Street Band great Stevie Van Zandt, it's more than apparent that his heartfelt mission of re-introducing the irrepressible Love to the world in all her vocal splendor has been affirmed as a rousing success.
Hailed as "a splashy victory lap" by NPR's First Listen, the album is comprised of all new recordings and features never-before-heard and classic songs from a superstar cast of songwriters eager to join Van Zandt in honoring one of the seminal voices in music history. The Elvis Costello-penned first single "Forbidden Nights" has also been embraced at radio and drawn raves, with Costello and Bruce Springsteen contributing two tracks each to the 14-song album (released on Van Zandt's Wicked Cool label in partnership with Columbia Records - see full tracklist below) with Stevie Van Zandt penning three songs. Other writers include Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Desmond Child, Joan Jett, longtime songwriting team Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and Michael Des Barres, and more. Various before mentioned songs have been championed across several channels at SiriusXM Radio with feature interviews running throughout release week. NPR's First Listen also praised the Van Zandt/Love chemistry on the album, citing the "dignity in Love's vocals amplified by Van Zandt's grand but well-modulated arrangements."
The irresistible video for the first single "Forbidden Nights" also premiered to an overwhelming response. The jubilant clip catches the charismatic Love and pals cruising the beach sites of Asbury Park, N.J., and features inventive cameos including Costello himself, as well as Joan Jett, Paul Schaffer, Bill Murray, David Letterman, and hilarious glimpses of Van Zandt and buddy Bruce Springsteen. Love and Van Zandt and a stage-full of musicians also rocked Asbury Park's Paramount Theatre live on September 12, reveling in a vibrant set of album selections kicking off Introducing Darlene Love's release as well as delivering torrid renditions of some of her back-classics. Two more buzzed-about shows celebrating the album's release are on deck in L.A.'s famed Whisky A Go Go with the first show kicking off tonight. Headliner Love and Little Steven & Friends will be rocking the bill September 18 and 20.
The captivating Love is sure to bring her iconic vocal rendering to the Whisky just as she does on the acclaimed new album. Songs on Introducing Darlene Love include "Night Closing In" (Bruce Springsteen,) "Still To Soon To Know" (Elvis Costello),"Love Kept Us Foolin' Around" (Linda Perry), "Who Under Heaven" (Jimmy Webb), "River Deep, Mountain High" (Phil Spector/Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich), and "Sweet Freedom" (Barry Man/Cynthia Weil), among others.
Inducted in to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011, Love's five-decade career spans some of the greatest signature moments in music. The Los Angeles native (Love currently resides in New Jersey) nurtured her talent early as a member of the Blossoms, a local trio who began their career providing backup vocals for artists such as Sam Cooke and Bobbie Day. The Blossoms also were featured as part of the house band for the popular '60s music show Shindig, backing up many of the performers who appeared on the series. Love would go on to become one of the most sought-after singers in music history, recording with Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Dionne Warwick, The Righteous Brothers, Tom Jones, and dozens of other vocal giants throughout her career. Her early work with pioneering producer Phil Spector on songs such as the trailblazing "He's A Rebel," "He's Sure The Boy I Love," and "Why Do Lover's Break Each Other's Hearts," would garner her legend status. She is featured in the 2013 Academy Award and Grammy winning documentary '20 Feet From Stardom,' chronicling the behind-the-scenes lives of background singers. Darlene's annual holiday performance of her classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on Late Night With David Letterman became a holiday viewing staple.

Bennett's New Album for RPM/Columbia Records Available Everywhere on Friday, September 25, 2015
Aug 21, 2015
NEW YORK, Aug. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- RPM/Columbia Records is proud to announce the release of The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern, a new album from American musical legend Tony Bennett and acclaimed jazz pianist Bill Charlap, arriving Friday, September 25, 2015. The album is available for pre-order beginning today at Amazon.com at http://smarturl.it/silverlining_amazon and iTunes at http://smarturl.it/silverlining_itunes.
Following the enormous success of his #1, Grammy-Award winning album with Lady Gaga, Cheek To Cheek, this new release continues the classic series of Tony Bennett album releases celebrating the essentials of the Great American Songbook. The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern is an appreciation of the genius of Jerome David Kern (1885-1945), one of the 20th century's most important American composers of musical theater and popular music.
Tony Bennett is the only artist to successfully bridge the worlds of pop music and jazz on an international scale for over 60 years. The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern become parts of a timeless legacy of recordings that Bennett has done throughout his career that have embraced both genres, in particular the revered piano jazz albums that he recorded with the late Bill Evans in 1975 and 1977. Tony has become synonymous with the pop/jazz connection and in recent years has been a mentor to contemporary artists such as Lady Gaga and the late Amy Winehouse in encouraging them to embrace jazz music. With his 90th birthday less than a year away, The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern defines what makes Tony Bennett unique in the pantheon of great singers and is a testament to the legacy that he continues to create as a recording artist and influence in the music industry.
Over the course of his career, Kern composed more than 700 songs, creating musical elements used in more than 100 stage works, collaborating with the greatest lyricists and librettists of the era including P.G. Wodehouse, Oscar Hammerstein II, Dorothy Fields, Johnny Mercer, Ira Gershwin, E.Y. Harburg and many others on a seemingly limitless repertoire of classic songs including "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "The Way You Look Tonight," "Long Ago and Far Away" and many more.
New York native Jerome Kern was a major force on Broadway and in Hollywood musicals in a career that spanned more than four decades. He expanded on earlier musical theater traditions, from vaudeville to operetta, to embrace new dance rhythms, syncopation and jazz progressions and helped invent the modern musical template. While many of his Broadway musicals and Hollywood musical films were contemporary smash hits, Kern is perhaps best remembered today through revivals of "Show Boat," one of his signature achievements.
In his liner notes for The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern, music historian Will Friedwald describes Kern as "...the key link between the great music of historical and contemporary classics, a direct connection between Brahms and Charlie Parker....a key architect of a uniquely American art form that would eventually take shape as musical theater....one of the founding fathers of a term that Tony Bennett later coined himself, 'the Great American Songbook.'" Friedwald writes about music and popular culture for The Wall Street Journal, worked with Tony Bennett on Tony's "The Good Life" memoir, and is author of eight books including the award-winning "A Biographical Guide to the Great Jazz and Pop Singers," "Sinatra! The Song Is You," "Stardust Melodies," and "Jazz Singing."
"The idea of a Kern Songbook project was Tony's," writes Will Friedwald, "thereby placing Kern on the very short list of canonical composers (Rodgers & Hart, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, and Cy Coleman) who have been the beneficiaries of an entire album by Bennett. It was also Bennett's idea to create the album in collaboration with the remarkable Bill Charlap....who can also take a great song we all know by heart and make us feel like we've never heard it before."
Playing alongside Tony Bennett and Bill Charlap on The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern are pianist Renee Rosnes (on the piano duet pieces), Peter Washington (bass) and Kenny Washington (drums). Unrelated, though sharing the same last name, Peter and Kenny have been performing with Bill Charlap for nearly two decades and pianist Renee Rosnes has been Charlap's life partner for close to 10 years.
With more than 700 Jerome Kern compositions to choose from, the set list for The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern is a distillation of essential highlights from a boundless catalog. With these interpretations of some of Jerome Kern's finest songs, Tony Bennett and Bill Charlap offer a definitive introduction to Kern's music while providing a deep understanding of the abiding and universal qualities of these songs.

ABOUT TONY BENNETT:
Tony Bennett is an artist who moves the hearts and touches the souls of audiences. He's not just the singer's singer but also an international treasure honored by the United Nations with its Citizen of the World award, which aptly describes the scope of his accomplishments.
The son of a grocer and Italian-born immigrant, Anthony Dominick Benedetto was born on August 3, 1926, in the Astoria section of Queens, New York. He attended the High School of Industrial Arts in Manhattan, where he nurtured his dual passions, singing and painting. His boyhood idols Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole were big influences on Bennett's easy, natural singing style. Tony sang while waiting tables as a teenager then performed with military bands throughout his overseas Army duty during World War II. After the war, the GI Bill enabled him to study vocal technique at the American Theatre Wing School.
With worldwide record sales in the millions, Tony has received eighteen Grammy Awards including the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The MTV generation took to Tony Bennett during his appearance with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the 1993 MTV Video Awards. He appeared on MTV Unplugged and the recording of the same name earned him the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. "Tony Bennett has not just bridged the generation gap," observed The New York Times, "he has demolished it. He has connected with a younger crowd weaned on rock. And there have been no compromises."
His initial fame came via a string of Columbia singles in the early 1950s, including such chart-toppers as "Because of You," "Rags To Riches" and a cover of Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart." He has placed two-dozen songs in the Top 40, including "I Wanna Be Around," "The Good Life," "Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)" and his signature hit, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco." One of only a few artists to have albums chart in the 1950s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and the new millennium, he's introduced multitudes of songs into the Great American Songbook that have become pop music standards. Upon the release of his boxed set collection, TONY BENNETT: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION, the New York Times commented, "we aren't likely to see a recording career like this again." Bennett made music history when he became the oldest artist at the age of 86 to achieve a #1 record on the Billboard charts with his DUETS II CD. He broke that record at the age of 88 when his collaborative album with Lady Gaga, CHEEK TO CHEEK, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Album charts. The album went on to win a Grammy Award and fostered a sold-out and critically acclaim world-wide concert tour. Tony Bennett is a Kennedy Center Honoree and an NEA Jazz Master, and a 18-time Grammy Winner. Tony has authored four books, his official biography, two books devoted to his artwork, and the latest New York Times Bestseller, Life Is A Gift.
Tony is a dedicated painter whose interest in art began as a child. He continues to paint daily, even while touring. He has exhibited work around the world, and three of his original paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
Throughout his career, Tony Bennett has always put his heart and time into humanitarian concerns. He's raised millions for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. His original paintings each year grace the cover of the American Cancer Society's holiday greeting card. He received Martin Luther King Center's "Salute to Greatness Award" for his efforts to fight discrimination, having marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in 1965. The United Nations presented him with their 2007 Humanitarian Award.
In honor of his great friend and staunchest supporter, Tony established the Frank Sinatra School for the Arts, which opened as a New York City public high school, offering an extensive arts curriculum, in September of 2001. In 2009, a permanent site for the school opened in Bennett's hometown of Astoria, Queens. With his wife Susan, they founded Exploring the Arts, which supports the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts and provides support to arts education in public schools.

Jul 31, 2015
NEW YORK, July 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records – The first new album in decades from legendary vocalist Darlene Love, Introducing Darlene Love, is available for pre-order today at iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon. Produced and arranged by artist/producer/E Street Band great Stevie Van Zandt, the album is comprised of all new recordings and features never-before-heard and classic songs from a superstar cast of songwriters eager to showcase one of the most seminal voices in music history. Fans who pre-order the album will receive the Elvis Costello-penned first single "Forbidden Nights" as an instant grat track.
Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen contribute two tracks each to the 14-song album (released on Van Zandt's Wicked Cool label in partnership with Columbia Records - see full tracklist below) with Stevie Van Zandt penning three songs. Other writers include Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Desmond Child, Joan Jett, longtime songwriting team Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and Michael Des Barres, and more.
The captivating Love brings her iconic vocal delivery to each song, including "Night Closing In" (Bruce Springsteen,) "Still To Soon To Know" (Elvis Costello),"Love Kept Us Foolin' Around" (Linda Perry), "Who Under Heaven" (Jimmy Webb), "River Deep, Mountain High" (Phil Spector/Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich), and "Sweet Freedom" (Barry Man/Cynthia Weil), among others. Inducted in to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011, the New York Times has called the singer "a thunderbolt voice embedded in the history of rock n' roll…" and Rolling Stone praised her trademark vocal style as "a rare instrument sturdy enough to vault over Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound.'"
Love's five-decade career spans some of the greatest signature moments in music, with the Los Angeles native nurturing her talent early as a member of the Blossoms, a local trio who began their career providing backup vocals for artists such as Sam Cooke and Bobbie Day.
The prolific Van Zandt creates a compelling production aesthetic on Introducing Darlene Love, echoing the classic recording style of many early '60s pop standards on the forthcoming Columbia Records/Wicked Cool release, available everywhere on September 18.

CEREMONY SET FOR DECEMBER 10 AT UNITED NATIONS HEAD OFFICE IN NEW YORK
Dec 8, 2014
NEW YORK, Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of his artistic contributions and political activism, Guitarist Edgey Pires of The Last Internationale will be honored at the 2014 PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS. The artist receives this esteemed honor amongst a total of 20 Portuguese and Brazilian actors, cultural influencers, journalists, and other trailblazers. The gala ceremony takes place at the United Nations head office in New York City on December 10, 2014.
Edgey graduated from college with a degree in Political Science and went on to write two books, Fighting for Freedom: Because A Better World is Possible (Planting Seeds Press) and Negative Dialectics: How to Accurately Interpret the World (unpublished). This marks a significant milestone for both Edgey and the critically acclaimed New York band.
"The UN is where Che Guevara delivered an incendiary speech against US imperialism. It is where Hugo Chaves, decades later, gave a similar speech in which he condemned 'the devil', George W. Bush, who had spoken from the same podium the day before. It is where KRS ONE went to get Hip Hop officially recognized as an international culture. It is where the Security Council vote on which poor, innocent people in remote parts of the world will get bombs dropped on their heads. It is outside of this building that I have held many banners and shouted for human rights and seen many of my fellow Comrades get tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, beat and dragged off by police," said Edgey. "So when I found out that I was being given the Luso-Brazilian Award at the UN for my artistic achievements and social activism, I was as much shocked as I was honored to be included on the right side of this contentious history. Since the event falls on Human Rights Day, I will also be standing outside (once again) demanding that we get some human rights right here at home. I urge everyone from around the world to head out into the streets and fight for a different world."
During the evening, the PORTUGUESE-BRAZILIAN AWARDS bestows a statue and a diploma upon all honorees. The event aims to bolster and encourage Portuguese and Brazilian communities in the U.S. through recognizing the culture's luminaries and their respective contributions.
This news concludes a monumental year for The Last Internationale. They recently unveiled their star-studded music video for "A Wanted Man" and performed a powerful "Call For Action" show regarding Prop 47 in South Los Angeles. They are now gearing up to launch a campaign around the rising Student Debt Crisis. The band is passionate about this issue and is planning a more formal announcement early next year.
The Last Internationale first emerged in 2013 with their independent EP, New York, 'I Do Mind Dying. Legendary Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello made an introduction between Delila Paz and Edgy Pires and his longtime bandmate Brad Wilk. The drummer ended up joining the group, and they unleashed We Will Reign this past summer. They've performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and recently supported Robert Plant on tour.
