Mar 19, 2015 | Sony Music to purchase remaining interest in The Orchard, the world’s leading independent digital distributor
NEW YORK—March 19, 2015—Sony Music Entertainment today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Dimensional Associates, LLC to acquire the remaining interest in The Orchard, the global independent music, video and film distribution company. The Orchard will continue to operate separately from Sony Music and will be led by its existing executive team. The deal is aligned with Sony Corp.’s recently announced strategy identifying Sony Music as one of its growth businesses. Sony plans to proactively invest in and implement a variety of measures to promote growth across its entertainment businesses, including music. The Orchard is focused on providing world-class digital distribution services for content creators including independent labels and filmmakers.  It offers clients an end-to-end solution for music and video delivery to hundreds of services and digital storefronts worldwide, as well as efficient and transparent reporting of sales and revenue. The sales, digital marketing and business development offerings also included in The Orchard’s suite of services have helped it outpace the industry in growing revenue for its clients. Sony Music became the majority investor in The Orchard in March 2012 following the merger of The Orchard with IODA, a Sony Music-owned digital distribution company. At that time, The Orchard became the digital distributor for RED and select catalogues from Sony Music affiliates outside of the U.S. This investment in The Orchard will allow Sony Music to further enhance its relationships with distribution clients all over the world.  It also will allow the companies to work more closely together to drive improvements throughout the digital supply chain and quality of revenue reporting.  Sony Music remains committed to operating The Orchard independently with the goal of improving the revenue and profitability of its distribution clients. The acquisition is subject to necessary regulatory approvals. Citigroup served as the financial advisor to Sony Music Entertainment on the transaction and UBS Securities, LLC served as the financial advisor to The Orchard on the transaction.   About The Orchard® The Orchard is a pioneering music, video and film distribution company and top-ranked Multi Channel Network operating in more than 25 global markets. May 10, 2011 | Library of Congress Launches, With Sony Music Content, The “National Jukebox,” An Online Destination For Historical Sound Recordings
Largest Collection Of Historical Recordings Ever Made Publicly Available Online   The Library of Congress and Sony Music Entertainment today unveiled a new website of over 10,000 rare historic sound recordings available to the public for the first time digitally. The site is called the “National Jukebox” (www.loc.gov/jukebox/). Developed by the Library of Congress, with assets provided by Sony Music Entertainment, the National Jukebox offers free online access to a vast selection of music and spoken-word recordings produced in the U.S. between the years 1901 and 1925. The website was launched at a Library news conference featuring an appearance by Grammy-winning pianist, singer and actor Harry Connick, Jr.  The Columbia recording artist performed the song “I’m Just Wild About Harry,” which is on the site performed by composer Eubie Blake. “This amazing collection is a chance to hear history,” said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, who joined Connick and officials of Sony Music Entertainment at the press event.  “This collection includes popular music, dance music, opera, early jazz, famous speeches, poetry and humor.  It is what our grandparents and great-grandparents listened to, danced to, sang along with.  This brings online one of the most explosively creative periods in American culture and music and one of the finest additions to the Library's American Memory materials.” “We are thrilled to be joining with the Library of Congress to launch the National Jukebox,” said Richard Story, President, Commercial Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment. “As the steward of much of the output from the American recording industry prior to 1934, Sony Music is excited to preserve and share online these important cultural treasures from its archives with students, historians, and music-lovers alike, and create new audiences for and appreciators of the many extraordinary works from the pre-1925 era.” The agreement for the National Jukebox grants the Library of Congress usage rights to Sony Music’s entire pre-1925 catalog—comprising thousands of recordings produced by Columbia Records, OKeh, and Victor Talking Machine Co. among others – and represents the largest collection of such historical recordings ever made publicly available for study and appreciation online. Works by Fletcher Henderson, Al Jolson, George M. Cohan, Eddie Cantor, Will Rogers, Alberta Hunter, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leopold Stokowski, Arturo Toscanini, and opera stars Enrico Caruso, Nellie Melba and Geraldine Farrar are all covered, as are such original recordings as the Paul Whiteman Concert Orchestra's “Rhapsody in Blue” with George Gershwin on piano, and Nora Bayes' “Over There.” Visitors to The National Jukebox will be able to listen to available recordings on a streaming-only basis, as well as view thousands of label images, record-catalog illustrations, and artist and performer bios. In addition, users can further explore the catalog by accessing special interactive features, listening to playlists curated by Library staff, and creating and sharing their own playlists. At launch, the National Jukebox will feature recordings exclusively from Sony Music’s Victor Talking Machine Co. catalog, and include songs and other materials such as the Original Dixieland Jazz Band performing “Livery Stable Blues”—considered the first jazz recording ever released—Lena Wilson singing “T’aint Nobody’s Biz-ness If I Do” (1923), and the famed Ziegfeld Follies star Fannie Brice singing “My Man.” In addition, the collection will include early jazz, many blues songs and novelty songs meant to evoke laughter (such as the 1908 “Cat Duet” that simulated the sounds of cats yowling in the night), and recordings made for distinct ethnic groups, such as Irish songs or home-nation music beloved by immigrants to the U.S. Not just limited to music, users also can access political speeches by Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, William Jennings Bryan and William Howard Taft, recitings of famous popular poems such as “Casey at the Bat” and “Wynken, Blynken and Nod,” readings from the Bible and early sound-effects records such as a collection of snores and sneezes. The website will showcase special interactive features as well, including a digital facsimile of the 1919 edition of the famous opera guide “Victrola Book of the Opera,” which describes more than 110 operas, including illustrations, plot synopses and lists of recordings offered in that year.  Features include the book’s original text, a comparison of the different interpretations of the most popular arias of the period, and streamed recordings of nearly every opera referenced in the book. The National Jukebox additionally will include playlists annotated by Library staff, focusing on different genres, time periods, themes and artists. Users also will be able to create their own playlists to post on their own webpages and social networking sites or submit them to the Library for posting on the National Jukebox site. Other features include pages of background information on both the creation of the National Jukebox and audio-preservation practices. The recordings featured in the National Jukebox were made using what is known as the acoustical process, which predates the use of microphones.  Speakers spoke into, or singers sang into, cones which vibrated an attached diaphragm and stylus, etching sound waves onto a rotating wax disc. These original discs later could be converted into masters used to mold the records sold for home use. Metadata for the website’s Victor content will be cataloged and controlled by comprehensive discographic data compiled by the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) for their online “Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Records” (https://victor.library.ucsb.edu/).  The Library’s association with UCSB will provide users with an easily searchable database of every recording in the National Jukebox. “This represents a strong step in the Library’s efforts to return out-of-circulation recordings to public access,” said Gene DeAnna, head of the Library’s Recorded Sound Section.  “Sony Music’s commitment to making its recordings more accessible is unprecedented.  We will seek additional donors and contributors in an effort to develop the most comprehensive website of historic sound recordings and related interpretive content.” Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution. It seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs and exhibitions. Many of the Library’s rich resources can be accessed through its website at www.loc.gov and via interactive exhibitions on a personalized website at myLOC.gov. Sony Music Entertainment houses the libraries of both Columbia and Victor (now RCA), the two oldest record companies in existence, and many historical recordings are contained in its archives. The very first label, Columbia, was started in 1887 by men working in partnership with the inventors of the wax cylinder, the first successful sound reproduction format, and in 1890 released the first musical entertainment recording, the John Philip Sousa band's "Washington Post March." The Victor Talking Machine Company, founded in 1901, was created by the inventors of the first successful sound-on-disc reproduction system.Read More »
May 02, 2011 | Sony Names Doug Morris New Head Of Sony Music Entertainment
(New York, NY – March 2, 2011) -- Doug Morris, one of the most respected and influential executives in the global music industry, will join Sony Music Entertainment as Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2011.  The announcement was made today by Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, Sony Corporation. Mr. Morris, who became Worldwide Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Music Group (UMG) in 1995, announced last year that he would step down from that role at the end of 2010.  At Sony Music Entertainment (SME), he will succeed Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, who will be departing the company concurrent with the end of his contract on March 31, 2011. “I have known Doug Morris for many years, and am delighted that he has agreed to lead Sony Music Entertainment,” said Mr. Stringer.  “At this critical time in the evolution of the music industry, I can think of no one more qualified as a proven executive, an innovator, a music impresario and a statesman than Doug Morris.  I welcome him to the Company and look forward to our working together to drive Sony Music to preeminence in the industry. “I also want to thank Rolf Schmidt-Holtz for his tremendous contribution to Sony Music,” Mr. Stringer continued.  “From his time as Chairman of the Sony BMG Music Entertainment joint venture in 2004, through his operational role as CEO beginning in 2006, Rolf has been a courageous, candid and forward-thinking executive, and our entire Company has benefitted greatly from his leadership.  We wish him great success as he undertakes new challenges upon his return to Europe.” “I'm delighted by the opportunity to work with Howard and the entire Sony Music team,” commented Mr. Morris. “At such a pivotal time for music, it’s more important than ever to develop a fertile, creative environment that generates the highest quality of  artists and music, while seeking to fully exploit the many opportunities that new digital services and products provide in reaching audiences around the world." For the next few months, prior to Mr. Morris’ joining Sony Music Entertainment, Mr. Stringer will oversee the executive decision-making at SME. Mr. Schmidt-Holtz said, “Over the last 10 years as CEO of BMG, SONY BMG, and currently Sony Music, I have worked to build the value of music content across a wide variety of platforms.  I am particularly proud to have developed the global television property as an important strategic element within all the companies I have led.  This influential model has been widely adopted across the entire industry, and is a vital component of today’s music business.  Most importantly, I am grateful to have worked with such a great team over the last decade, including some of the most talented and dedicated music executives in the industry.  Together, we have kept a strong focus on building a profitable company with an entrepreneurial culture that attracts good people and always remembers that great artistry, creative talent and innovation are the driving forces of our success.  Finally, I want to thank Howard Stringer for giving me the opportunity to lead Sony Music over these last few years.  It has been an amazing experience and one I will never forget.  I wish my colleagues and the new leadership all the best for the future. ” As Worldwide Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group (UMG) from 1995 through 2010, Mr. Morris was responsible for guiding the overall global activities of the company.  He oversaw the development, manufacturing, marketing, selling and distribution of its recorded music through a network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and licensees in 77 countries around the world, as well as its music publishing business, the largest in the world. Under Mr. Morris’ direction, UMG led the industry in sales for an unprecedented 14 consecutive years.  He rapidly grew the organization from a record company into a full-fledged music entertainment company with multiple new revenue streams. Moreover, Mr. Morris became the first media executive to monetize online music videos, essentially helping to create the music video-on-demand market.  He also created VEVO, a novel partnership with Sony Music and Google, which has quickly become the leading premium music video and entertainment network.  Within its first month of launch, VEVO amassed an unprecedented 35 million unique visitors.  A year later, the network currently ranks as the #1 online music destination with nearly 60 million unique visitors.  ComScore ranks VEVO as the #3 online property--behind only YouTube and Facebook--and above such longer-standing services as Yahoo, Hulu, AOL, Netflix and MTV Networks Music. After graduating from Columbia University, Mr. Morris began his music career as a songwriter for music publisher Robert Mellin, Inc.  His credits include writing the Chiffons’ 1966 hit, “Sweet Talkin’ Guy,” and producing such hit records as Brownsville Station’s “Smokin’ in the Boys Room.”  Mr. Morris joined Laurie Records in 1965 as a writer and producer and was eventually named Vice President and General Manager. Later, he launched his own label, Big Tree Records, which was distributed and eventually acquired by Atlantic Records in 1978.  At this time, Mr. Morris was named President of ATCO Records, beginning a 17-year association with Warner Music. In 1980, he was appointed President of Atlantic Records and assumed the position of Co-Chairman and Co-CEO (with Ahmet Ertegun) of the Atlantic Recording Group in 1990.  At Atlantic, Mr. Morris played a key role in transforming the label into the number one company in the business with over $1 billion in sales and, later, elevated  Warner Music Group to the industry’s leading company in overall sales. In 1995, Mr. Morris began his association with the MCA Music Entertainment Group (now Universal Music Group) by forming the joint venture, Rising Tide Entertainment. Upon his appointment as Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group in November 1995, the joint venture became wholly owned by Universal Music Group and was re-named Universal Records.  The full-service label, under the direction of Mr. Morris, quickly became one of the industry’s most successful start-up recording companies. Leading Universal Music Group, Mr. Morris energized the company by attracting and recruiting many of the music industry’s most talented executives and artists. With the acquisition of PolyGram in 1998, Mr. Morris played a pivotal role in the restructuring and integration process to create the world’s largest music company. A staunch defender of artists’ rights, Mr. Morris has worked in many different capacities with some of the most popular and influential artists of the past four decades, including The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins, Pete Townsend, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Bette Midler, Tori Amos, INXS, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder and U2, among many others.  He has worked tirelessly to ensure that artists are fairly compensated for the use of their works in all mediums, and has testified before the United States Congress on their behalf. Mr. Morris serves on the Board of Directors of The Robin Hood Foundation and The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and is a Director of The Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame.  He is also a recipient of the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), honoring his consistent creative commitment to artistic and entrepreneurial excellence and longstanding support for the music and world communities.  Mr. Morris also serves on the Board of Directors of CBS Corporation.  In 2008, he was honored with City of Hope’s Spirit of Life award and, in 2009, he received the NARAS Icon Award, as well as a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.   About Sony Music Entertainment Sony Music Entertainment is a global recorded music company with a roster that includes a broad array of both local artists and international superstars.  The company boasts a vast catalog that comprises some of the most important recordings in history.  It is home to premier record labels representing music from every genre.  Sony Music Entertainment is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America.   About Sony Corporation of America Sony Corporation of America, based in New York, NY, is the U.S. subsidiary of Sony Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Dec 21, 2010 | Remix Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” Online Using the Original 4-Track Vocal, Guitar, Bass and Drum Recordings
“The Remix Project,” From Sony make.believe, Allows Fans to Re-imagine Dylan Classic Fan Contest, Also Featuring Collaborations from The Ting Tings, 2AM Club and Others, Will Award a Grand Prize Trip to South by Southwest Music Festival New York, NY – December 21, 2010 – For music fans who have imagined what it would be like to record with the legendary Bob Dylan or produce one of his iconic songs, reality is here. Beginning today with the launch of “The Remix Project,” music fans can create their own personalized online remix of Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” using the song’s original 4-track “stems”—the individual vocal, guitar, bass and drum recordings— for the first time ever. Fans can mix and match the components of the original, with new versions of the classic that have been recorded for the project by popular Sony Music artists, including The Ting Tings, 2AM Club, and more. Fans can record and upload their own covers of “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” and add those to the mix as well. “The Remix Project,” accessible now at www.facebook.com/sony, is part of Sony’s ongoing make.believe (pronounced “make dot believe”) brand initiative -- the philosophy of which is, “Believe that anything you can imagine, you can make real.” Fans creating remixes will be able to submit their work to “The Remix Project” for others to listen to and vote on. All participants who submit a remix over the next four weeks are automatically entered into a contest to win a Grand Prize, all-expenses-paid trip to the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX, in March, along with other prizes including Dylan’s “The Original Mono Recordings” box set and “The Bootleg Series Volume 9 – The Witmark Demos.” Just for voting, all participants qualify for a sweepstakes to win one of 10 Sony Style gift cards. The Grand Prize winner will be selected by a panel of Sony judges from a group of three semifinalists chosen by the fan community. The Ting Tings were handpicked to be involved in “The Remix Project.” To kick off the program, they have created their own version of "Subterranean Homesick Blues." The band explained that "having the opportunity to jam with Dylan and his band in a virtual live session in our studio was mind-explosive." The first Top 40 hit of Dylan's career, 1965's "Subterranean Homesick Blues"—crackled across America's airwaves with startling immediacy and continues to resonate. A bona fide bulletin from the underground, "Subterranean Homesick Blues," with its propulsive rhythmic syncopation and coded lyrics, connects traditional “talking” blues with street culture, while the song's promotional film has become one of the most iconic memes in rock video language. Bob Dylan is one of the world's most popular and acclaimed songwriters, musicians and performers, having sold more than 110 million albums and performed literally thousands of shows around the world in a career spanning five decades.  His most recent succession of new studio albums -- Time Out Of Mind, "Love And Theft", Modern Times and Together Through Life -- have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success.  The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while 2001's "Love And Theft” continued Dylan’s Platinum streak, earning several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.  Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist’s biggest albums worldwide, selling more than 2.5 million copies and earning Dylan two more Grammys while 2009's Together Through LIfe debuted at #1 in the US and the UK (where it became Dylan's first #1 album since 1970).  Those four releases fell within a 12-year creative span that also included an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning tune, “Things Have Changed,” from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004; a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005; and several volumes of the best-selling Bootleg Series, which culminated in the highly-acclaimed Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006. Dylan was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for “his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.”  He remains one of the world's top touring artists, performing more than 100 concerts yearly around the globe. The Ting Tings, a DIY pop band from Manchester, England, have garnered massive acclaim and success with their hit singles “That’s Not My Name,” “Shut Up And Let Me Go” and “Great DJ” that have sold over 4 million copies worldwide and their critically acclaimed debut album, “We Started Nothing,” which has sold over two million copies to date. After a whirlwind of touring live in the U.S., Europe and almost everywhere else non-stop for the last two years, The Ting Tings moved to East Berlin’s Freidrichshain District to record their highly anticipated sophomore effort that is due out Spring 2011. “The Remix Project” was developed in collaboration with ClubCreate. Sony’s global brand message, make.believe, is a platform for engaging consumers with the world of Sony in entirely new ways and across all of Sony’s businesses, from electronics to entertainment to network services. The make.believe philosophy is simple: Believe that anything you can imagine, you can make real. Aug 26, 2016 | Music About Love And Friendship Inspires Joshua Bell And Steven Isserlis On New Album For The Love Of Brahms - Available Sept. 30, 2016

Pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Join in Music of Brahms and Schumann

Aug 26, 2016

New York, Aug. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces - pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director - in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical).  Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls "music about love and friendship."

Joshua Bell - For The Love of Brahms - Available September 30

A personal, deeply affectionate impulse frequently sparked the music of Johannes Brahms and his mentor, Robert Schumann – often including their mutual friend, the violinist and composer Joseph Joachim. It clearly drove all three works on For the Love of Brahms.

Bell, Isserlis and Denk unite here in Brahms's first published chamber work, the Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 in its rarely performed original 1854 version. Isserlis also joins Bell - as violin soloist and director - and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Brahms's last orchestral work, the celebrated Double Concerto (for Violin and Cello) in A Minor, Op. 102. Bell, Isserlis and members of the Academy also offer the first recording of an unusual coupling: the slow movement of Schumann's rarely heard Violin Concerto, in a version for string orchestra made by Benjamin Britten, who also added a short coda.

"I met Steven almost 30 years ago at a music festival, and he has been my close friend and frequent chamber music partner ever since.  Jeremy and I have also shared a long-lasting friendship and we have recorded and performed together for more than a decade," states Bell. "Therefore it is fitting that we all come together on this record to play music that is so deeply rooted in love and friendship." Earlier this year, Bell, Isserlis and the Academy performed the Brahms Double Concerto to critical acclaim on an 11-date European tour, which Bell play-directed. The tour also featured the Schumann, and this recording followed. "Steven and I have performed the Double concerto of Brahms many times over the years, and I am so pleased that we found the perfect collaborators in the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields so we could finally record this piece that means so much to us," adds Bell.

In the liner notes he wrote for For the Love of Brahms, Isserlis echoes the belief that Brahms's early piano trio is suffused with his profound feeling for the Schumanns – Robert as his mentor and Clara as a lifelong friend and inspiration for whom Brahms nurtured a volatile yet unfulfilled love.

Both Schumann and Brahms wrote their violin concertos for Joachim. In the 1880s, however, a misunderstanding ruptured Brahms's celebrated friendship with Joachim. Brahms's "peace offering" to Joachim was to write the Double Concerto with him in mind, a gesture that repaired, even if it could not fully restore, the friendship.  Clara Schumann referred to it as 'a work of reconciliation'.

"It was fascinating to explore in this album the extremes of Brahms' creative career, from the passionate declarations of his youthful trio in B major to the late Double Concerto, his mellow, affectionate farewell to orchestral music. Since the concerto was written to celebrate Brahms' friendship of over 30 years with violinist Joseph Joachim, it is rather fitting that this recording should mark almost 30 years of close friendship between Joshua Bell and myself," observes Isserlis.

Bell also has a personal affection for Schumann's Violin Concerto, especially its slow movement – "it may be my favorite slow movement in any concerto," he says. Britten's version was made for a special performance at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1958. It allows the slow movement (which Schumann linked without pause to the final movement) to stand on its own.  Isserlis (who also plays the cello melody with which the movement opens) was intrigued to find this arrangement in the Britten-Pears catalogue; he got hold of a copy of the manuscript, and immediately sent it to Bell. Isserlis, Bell and the Academy performed it on the tour in early 2016 for almost certainly the first time since its premiere over half a century ago.

For the Love of Brahms continues Joshua Bell's long and acclaimed partnership with the London-based chamber orchestra Academy of St Martin in the Fields.  Since 2011, Bell has been the orchestra's Music Director and only person to hold this title since Sir Neville Marriner founded the orchestra in 1958. Bell's most recent Sony Classical recordings with the orchestra include Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Beethoven's Fourth and Seventh symphonies (Bell's first recording as Music Director), and a Bach concerto collection.

Sony Music Masterworks comprises Masterworks, Sony Classical, OKeh, Portrait, Masterworks Broadway and Flying Buddha imprints. For email updates and information please visit www.sonymusicmasterworks.com/.

NEW YORK, Aug. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, has launched Jeff Buckley: The Record Collection, a new online music destination site offering fans access to the music Jeff loved most. The Jeff Buckley Record Collection project has been overseen by the artist's mother, Mary Guibert.

Jeff Buckley Record Collection

A groundbreaking and intimate online experience, Jeff Buckley's Record Collection provides a comprehensive overview of the influences and inspirations that Jeff incorporated into his own music, including You and I, the recently-released collection of his first studio recordings from 1993, now available for streaming and purchase on the site, and Grace, Jeff's Columbia Records debut album first released on August 23, 1994.

Now, 22 years after the release of Grace, Jeff Buckley: The Record Collection gives fans a chance to spend a summer's day (or night) with Jeff and his music. The music press--mainstream and underground--has been enthusiastically enjoying Jeff's Record Collection since the launch of the site on July 18. Positive recommendations have appeared in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly ("The Grace singer's tastes notoriously spanned the genre gambit."), Billboard ("You can tell a lot about a person by what's in their record collection. Not the MP3s in their iTunes or their coolest Spotify playlists. Their actual record collection, on vinyl and CD, with frayed edges and worn grooves, cracked cases and everything."), Fast Company ("...when you're talking about an artist who means as much to music as Jeff Buckley, that document is an exciting thing to be able to tour through."), c/net ("Flip through someone's discs, and you get a window into not only who they are but who they've been."), noisey ("The guy had great taste, and you can get an intimate sense of who he was by flipping through and listening....Dig in, record nerds."), Mashable, Consequence of Sound ("His vinyl collection...affirms the legendary songwriter's genre-spanning taste....Those hoping to start their own vinyl collection -- this is a fantastic place to start."), American Songwriter ("....this interactive music destination is a rabbit hole of musical styles...."), Diffuser ("Jeff Buckley's incredibly diverse taste in music....", Goldmine ("A groundbreaking and intimate online experience...."), A.V. Club, Guitar World and more.

Like spending the day with Jeff in his apartment listening to music, the site allows fans to play and share any song from any album in Jeff's personal collection via 30 second previews or access to Spotify for full song playback. On the site, fans can navigate through Jeff Buckley's record collection by using arrows and the alphabet. Hovering over album spines reveal album information and the ability to stream music.

Bringing the vinyl and CD experience into the online digital realm, Jeff Buckley's Record Collection offers fresh insight into the creative process that fueled Jeff's work while introducing music fans to the incredibly wide range of artists (from Bob Dylan and Miles Davis to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Nina Simone and Robert Johnson) and genres (blues, jazz, heavy metal, world music and much more) that informed his genius.

About Jeff Buckley
After working more than a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Jeff Buckley moved to New York City in the early 1990s, gathering a rabid following playing tiny venues, notably Sin-é in the East Village. His repertoire incorporated folk, rock, R&B, blues and jazz. He signed to Columbia Records, home of many of his musical heroes, in October 1992. In February 1993, he went into the studio to create the newly uncovered tracks on You and I. Jeff Buckley only completed one studio album, 1994's Grace, before his life and career ended with his tragic drowning in Memphis on May 29, 1997.

Though scant, the discography of Jeff Buckley has received universal critical accolades and continues to create new fans and followers drawn to the music of a singular visionary artist whose voice, guitar work, songwriting and interpretative skills transcended all categories.

Aug 18, 2016 | Pink Floyd Records To Release "Atom Heart Mother", "Meddle" And "Obscured By Clouds" On September 26, 2016

"THE WALL" AND "THE DIVISION BELL" ALSO TO BE AVAILABLE

Aug 18, 2016

NEW YORK, Aug. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Pink Floyd Records will continue the reintroduction of the Pink Floyd catalogue on vinyl with the release of  "Atom Heart Mother", "Meddle" and "Obscured By Clouds" on September 26, 2016.  Each record has been remastered from the original analogue master tapes.  "The Wall" and "The Division Bell" will also be back in stock on vinyl starting August 26, 2016.

Pink Floyd followed their '60s albums with their fifth studio album, "Atom Heart Mother" in 1970.  Featuring the classic lineup of Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason, the LP went on to become the band's first UK #1 record.

During a short break from touring "Atom Heart Mother" in 1971, Pink Floyd released the experimental album "Meddle".  The LP saw the band move musical direction away from their original psychedelic sound, especially highlighted by the 23-minute track "Echoes" which occupied the entire b-side of the record.

Pink Floyd's seventh album, "Obscured By Clouds" was originally recorded as the soundtrack to the French film "La Vallee" but was released as a stand alone album in 1972.

"The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", "A Saucerful Of Secrets", "More", "Ummagumma" are also currently available through Pink Floyd Records.

A 3CD box set collection chronicling Miles' musical evolution in the studio from 1966-1968 working with his "second great quintet," the latest edition in Columbia/Legacy's acclaimed Miles Davis Bootleg Series provides an unprecedented look into the artist's creative process, drawing on full session reels including all rehearsals, partial and alternate takes, extensive and fascinating studio conversation and more.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Miles Smiles, the groundbreaking second studio album from the Miles Davis Quintet--Miles Davis (trumpet), Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone), Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Tony Williams (drums)--this definitive new collection includes the master takes of performances which would appear on the Miles Smiles (1967), Nefertiti (1968) and Water Babies (recorded 1967, released 1976) albums alongside more than two hours worth of previously unreleased studio recordings from original sessions produced by Teo Macero (with the exception of "Fall," produced by Howard A. Roberts).

"Circle," "Orbits," "Dolores" and "Freedom Jazz Dance" were recorded at the historic Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City on October 24, 1966. "Gingerbread Boy" and "Footprints" were recorded at the same location the following day, October 25, 1966. Full session reels – every second of music and dialogue – that were taped for the Miles Smiles album are included. Prior to this the only material ever released from the classic album were the master takes for the six songs. Never before have the full session reels for an entire Miles Columbia album been released, here providing an in-depth look at the studio process of one of jazz's greatest bandleaders, and arguably the greatest small jazz group ever.

"Masqualero", heard on the set in a previously unreleased alternate take, was recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio on May 17, 1967. "Water Babies" and "Nefertiti" were recorded there on June 7, 1967. "Fall" was cut at the Columbia studio on July 19, 1967. Complete session reels for "Water Babies", "Nefertiti" and "Fall" are included in the box.

"Country Son", heard in a unique previously unreleased rhythm section only rehearsal, was recorded at Columbia Studio B in New York City on May 15, 1968.

Miles Davis Quintet: Freedom Jazz Dance: The Bootleg Series, Vol 5 box set was produced for contemporary release by the multi Grammy Award winning team of Steve Berkowitz, Michael Cuscuna and Richard Seidel. The album was mixed from the original 4-track tapes and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Mark Wilder, Battery Studios, New York City, July 2016.

In addition to more than two hours of previously unreleased studio sessions, the collection includes "Blues in F (My Ding)," a rare and unique home recording featuring Miles, demonstrating on piano a new blues he was working on to Wayne Shorter.

Miles Davis Quintet: Freedom Jazz Dance: The Bootleg Series, Vol 5 includes revelatory behind-the-scenes liner notes penned by Grammy Award-winning Ashley Kahn, author of Kind of Blue: The Making of the Miles Davis Masterpiece, as well as new interviews with Quintet members Ron Carter and Wayne Shorter.

Sourced from original four-track analog session reels and master tapes transferred and mixed in high resolution at 24-bit/192 kHz, Miles Davis Quintet: Freedom Jazz Dance: The Bootleg Series, Vol 5 offers a profound and intimate look at Miles' creative process in the studio, providing insight into the bold new musical directions Davis and members of his quintet would take as the 1960s drew to a close.

Aug 11, 2016

NEW YORK, Aug. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- 20th Century Fox Consumer Products and Lou Adler have appointed Artist Legacy Group ("ALG") to act as U.S. brand representative for the classic cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it was announced today by ALG CEO Ashley Austin.

RHPS

ALG will collaborate closely with Fox, the film's distributor, and Adler, its executive producer, to help introduce the "absolute pleasure" of The Rocky Horror Picture Show to a new generation through exciting licensing and branding strategies including high-end merchandise collections.

The partnership will further the reach of the iconic Rocky Horror brand across a variety of categories including luxury apparel, lingerie, footwear, accessories, jewelry, timepieces, gifts & novelties, food & beverage, cosmetics and emojis. The first licensing opportunity curated by ALG, a Rocky Horror-inspired lingerie capsule collection by Hanky Panky Ltd. as part of its Hanky Panky After Midnight® line, hits stores this fall.

"I'm not a connoisseur of lingerie, except as an observer, so when the idea for Hanky Panky to do a line inspired by The Rocky Horror Picture Show was presented to me by Ashley and Scott at ALG, I asked three ladies what they thought of it, and all three said they were wearing Hanky Panky at the moment, that was good enough for me. The Hanky Panky After Midnight® line is a perfect match of Hanky Panky and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and ALG has been a perfect match for us," says Lou Adler.

ALG's partnership with The Rocky Horror Picture Show adds to its diverse roster of incredible clients, including iconic New York music venue Max's Kansas City, legendary music photographer Mick Rock, Dean Martin and the Estate of The Who drummer Keith Moon.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a truly unique film property and its impact on pop culture is unprecedented," says Ashley Austin. "ALG is thrilled to work closely with Fox and Lou Adler to create exciting new collaborations in a wide array of licensing categories for this beloved and iconic film."

Just in time for Halloween, the brand-new production of the 1975 cult classic THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: Let's Do the Time Warp Again will air Thursday, Oct. 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The special two-hour musical event follows sweethearts JANET (Victoria Justice, co-host of TEEN CHOICE 2016, Victorious) and BRAD (Ryan McCartan, Liv and Maddie, Heathers: The Musical), who stumble upon DR. FRANK-N-FURTER's (Emmy Award-nominated actress Laverne Cox, Doubt, Orange is the New Black) bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious mad-scientist, is holding an annual Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of ROCKY HORROR - created solely to fulfill Frank's desires. Actor and singer Staz Nair (Game of Thrones) will star in the role.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: Let's Do the Time Warp Again is from Fox 21 Television Studios, The Jackal Group and Ode Sounds & Visuals. It is executive-produced by Lou Adler (Grammy Award winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and executive producer of the original The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Gail Berman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, former President of Fox Broadcasting Company) and Kenny Ortega (Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer, High School Musical franchise, Michael Jackson's This Is It, Descendants, Hocus Pocus, Newsies).

Since its humble beginnings as a musical stage production, The Rocky Horror Picture Show continues to be a global touchstone more than 40 years after it first premiered. The Rocky Horror Picture Show enjoys the longest-running theatrical release of any film in history, with audiences around the world flocking to wild, participatory midnight screenings and singing along to "Time Warp," "Dammit Janet" and other unforgettable songs from the film's soundtrack. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress' National Film Registry.

NEW YORK, Aug. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, and Octave Music Licensing LLC, curators of American jazz legend Erroll Garner's archival recordings, announce the release of Garner's Ready Take One on Friday, September 30. Available for pre-order here: https://smarturl.it/Erroll_RTO_Amazon

Erroll Garner "Ready Take One" Cover Art

A new album of 14 previously unreleased studio performances by Erroll Garner and his backing musicians--drums (Jimmie Smith, Joe Cocuzzo), bass (Earnest McCarty, Jr., Ike Isaacs, George Duvivier, Larry Gales) and percussion (Jose Mangual)--Ready Take One is comprised of tracks recorded during seven extraordinarily productive sessions in 1967, 1969 and 1971. The New York Times just premiered "Wild Music," a new original track from the album, which can be heard here: https://smarturl.it/Erroll_WildMusic.

Ready Take One features six previously unreleased original Erroll Garner compositions--"High Wire," "Wild Music," "Back To You," "Chase Me," "Latin Digs," and "Down Wylie Avenue"--alongside Garner's swinging interpretations of a variety of jazz and pop standards including "I Want To Be Happy," "I'm Confessin' (That I Love You)," Bobby Hebb's "Sunny," Duke Ellington's "Caravan" and "Satin Doll," Cole Porter's "Night and Day," "Stella By Starlight" and a passionately rendered version of Garner's own "Misty," one of the most-often-covered jazz compositions of all-time and the most-requested number in Garner's repertoire, recorded for this album on May 28, 1969 in Paris, France.

Recorded during an especially prolific creative period running from 1967-1971, all 14 songs found on Ready Take One are previously unreleased and only recently restored after nearly 50 years on acetate.

Drawn from these sessions at Universal Recording in Chicago (November 28-29, 1967), Capital Studios in New York City (October 7, 1969) and RCA Studios in Manhattan (April 27, June 22 and December 2, 1971), Ready Take One finds Erroll Garner in the studio with his road-tested band and longtime manager Martha Glaser, firing off some of the most memorable performances of his career. For the first time, listeners are given a glimpse behind the studio doors, with rare insightful conversational tidbits between Garner and the group included between many of the songs. Glaser, known for her progressive guidance of Garner's artistic and commercial interests, is heard here in producer mode, slating takes and joking with Garner over the control room talk-back mic. As album producer Geri Allen writes, "a kind of fifth member of the band, Glaser would support Erroll Garner in the moment of the creative act." Indeed the title of the album comes directly from Glaser's steady refrain of "Ready Take One."

The first new Erroll Garner studio album to be released in nearly a quarter century, Ready Take One is the worthy successor to Legacy/Octave's first Garner release, 2015's critically-acclaimed Grammy-nominated The Complete Concert by The Sea, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart. Ready Take One is the first studio album from the extensive Octave Music catalog of previously unreleased Erroll Garner recordings and compositions.

One of the great American jazz pianists and composers of the 20th century (his classic "Misty" is an undisputed cornerstone jazz standard and the mainstay of many repertoires) Erroll Garner was among the most popular, successful and influential jazz artists of his era. (Reportedly Johnny Carson's favorite jazz musician, Garner appeared 27 times as a guest on "The Tonight Show" during Carson's reign as host in the 1960s and 1970s.)

Garner recorded the top-selling outdoor jazz concert album of all time, Concert By The Sea, in 1955; in 1957, became the first jazz soloist to win The Gran Prix du Disque in Paris, France; in 1959, was the first musician to play a solo jazz concert at Carnegie Hall, turning away more than 7000 people; and was given his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6363 Hollywood Boulevard).

Garner popularized jazz for millions all over the world with record breaking concert tours, and at the height of his career, was credited with developing the first completely original piano style since Art Tatum. With his completely distinctive, immediately recognizable and highly influential compositional and performance gifts, Erroll Garner was compared by critics to artists as diverse as Claude Debussy and Fats Waller.

Sadly, and somewhat inexplicably, since his death in 1977, Erroll Garner's artistry, enduring musical legacy and immeasurable contributions to the evolution of 20th century American jazz in the 20th century have been overlooked too often by contemporary audiences. With albums like Ready Take One, The Complete Concert By The Sea and future titles in the works, Legacy Recordings and Octave Music are reintroducing the music and genius of Erroll Garner to the world, bringing the abiding magic of his sounds to whole new generations of fans.

On June 15, 2015, the estate of Martha Glaser, Garner's longtime manager, announced the formation of the Erroll Garner Jazz Project, a major new archival and musical celebration of Garner. The project includes the donation of the Erroll Garner Archive—a huge trove of newly discovered historical material from Garner's life—to the University of Pittsburgh.

According to YouTube – just over 100 artist channels, including some of the biggest icons in the world, have reached the 1 billion view mark.

Of their latest landmark, Steven Sharp Nelson says: "A billion is a big number. Especially for a quartet of dads who just started making music videos for fun. Honestly, we are overwhelmed with gratitude. We feel like there have been so many miracles to make this possible that we are simply along for the ride. Behind every view is someone that has spent their time and sometimes their hard-earned money in support of us. We've built this on their shoulders. We also feel like there have been lots of answered prayers along the way too. No matter how big the number gets, we've promised ourselves that we'll never lose sight of this. We were in the middle of tour when the big billionth view boomed so we celebrated the best way we know how – by thanking our audience personally!"

In addition to their loyal YouTube fan base, the four dads from Utah recently celebrated an official RIAA Gold Album Certification for their first album - The Piano Guys. To date, the group has released five albums on Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks: The Piano Guys, The Piano Guys 2, A Family Christmas, Wonders and The Piano Guys: Live!  Collectively these releases have spent 302 weeks at #1 on various Billboard Sales Charts. They are currently working on their new album Uncharted which is due on October 28th.

On reaching 1 Billion YouTube views Bogdan Roscic, President of Sony Music Masterworks says: "One billion views on YouTube is an amazing achievement for any artist and something to be proudly celebrated. It goes to show just how special the connection is that The Piano Guys have made with their fans across all media as they continue to push the boundaries through their music and their videos."

The Piano Guys - Steven Sharp Nelson, Jon Schmidt, Al Van der Beek and Paul Anderson - quickly became an online sensation by way of their immensely successful series of striking music videos; most notably their 10-handed version of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful."  Nearly 5 Million loyal YouTube subscribers look forward to watching them perform in exotic locations around the world including The Great Wall of China, and Iguazu Falls in Brazil.  They continue their quest to film a music video at each of the Seven Wonders of the World, recently recording their latest video in the ancient city Petra in Jordan.

The Piano Guys touch fans of all ages beyond the computer screen. They continue to tour the world and sell out shows at legendary venues around the world.

ABOUT THE RAINBOW ROOM
Quintessential New York glamour finds its home 65 stories above the landmark Rockefeller Center. Crowning the timeless Manhattan skyline, the iconic Rainbow Room offers a modern twist on classic old-world charm, tailoring special moments for private events and Sunday brunch. Since its debut in 1934, the Rainbow Room has drawn the world's elite to its curated, elevated and glamorous luxury. First operating as a formal supper club, the venue quickly became a New York City entertainment focal point. The Rainbow Room name was inspired by the installation of a color organ that automatically converted music into changing colors in harmony with the moods expressed by the music. To mirror this effect, crystal curtains were added to the newly restored Rainbow Room to create a light shimmering veil at the windows without hindering the view.  In 2012, the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission declared Rainbow Room a New York City. Rainbow Room is one of the few interior landmarks found in New York City.

Jul 22, 2016 | The Magic Of New York City Inspires Lang Lang On New Album New York Rhapsody Available September 16, 2016

Featuring Special Guests Andra Day, Herbie Hancock, Jason Isbell, Jeffrey Wright, Kandace Springs, Lindsey Stirling, Lisa Fischer, Madeleine Peyroux and Sean Jones

Lang Lang Named New York City's First Ever NYC Cultural Tourism Ambassador

PBS Special Live From Lincoln Center Coming In November

Jul 22, 2016

NEW YORK, July 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --  The ineffable magic of New York City fires the imagination of superstar pianist Lang Lang on his new album New York Rhapsody (Sony Classical) available September 16, 2016. He is joined by a wide array of special guests including Andra Day, Herbie Hancock, Jason Isbell, Jeffrey Wright, Kandace Springs, Lindsey Stirling, Lisa Fischer, Madeleine Peyroux and Sean Jones. From the haunting reveries of Gershwin and Copland to the in-the-moment intensity of songs made famous by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, Lou Reed and Don Henley, New York Rhapsody rediscovers the dazzle and the soul of America's most symbolic city. Following the release of the album, a star-studded concert special Live From Lincoln Center will air on PBS on November 25, 2016 as part of the PBS Arts Fall Festival.  The video for "Empire State of Mind" with Lang Lang and singer Andra Day premiered on Town & Country – view it here.

The Magic of NYC Inspires Lang Lang on His New Album New York Rhapsody Available September 16 (Photo Credit: Robert Ascroft)

"I made this album because I wanted to pay homage to the city that I love," says Lang Lang of New York Rhapsody.  "This city has changed the course of music more than any other in the last hundred years. It has inspired and enriched me beyond words and has become my home away from home."

New York City feels similarly about Lang Lang. They just named Lang Lang the city's first ever NYC Cultural Tourism ambassador.  This is in partnership with NYC and Company in celebration of this year's official "China-U.S. Tourism Year" as designated by Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama.

For New York Rhapsody, Lang Lang joined forces with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein to create an album that embraces the musical spirit of New York in ways both surprising and traditional. Inspired by E.B. White's celebrated essay "Here Is New York," Klein assembled musical ideas and energies that both reflect New York's past and evoke its dynamic present.

The centerpiece of the album is a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue featuring Lang Lang and multiple Grammy-winning jazz legend, Herbie Hancock in a two-piano version conducted by John Axelrod with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Surrounding it on New York Rhapsody are creative collaborations that reimagine songs reflecting the varying moods and experiences New York offers.

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, Jason Isbell gives a fresh edge to Elbow's evocative "New York Morning" and Grammy-nominated R&B singer Andra Day adds a new dimension to the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' hit "Empire State of Mind." Kandace Springs gives a new treatment to Don Henley's moody "New York Minute." Singer Madeleine Peyroux recaptures the alone-in-the-city wistfulness of "Moon River," the Henry Mancini/Johnny Mercer classic from the essential New York movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.

In one of the album's boldest choices, co-arrangers Klein and Grammy-winner Billy Childs marry the Leonard Bernstein/Stephen Sondheim song "Somewhere" from West Side Story with Lou Reed's "Dirty Blvd" from his classic album New York. Lisa Fischer's vocal in the yearning "Somewhere" is a powerful contrast to actor Jeffrey Wright's interpretation of Lou Reed's indelible words in "Dirty Blvd."

Next, Lang Lang is joined by violinist Lindsey Stirling on a spinning version of Danny Elfman's theme for Spider-Man; and then by trumpeter Sean Jones on the West Side Story classic "Tonight" by Leonard Bernstein.

Bookending New York Rhapsody are perhaps surprising choices – quiet, contemplative pieces by New York's greatest musical poet, Aaron Copland. To open, Lang Lang and Klein chose "The Story of Our Town," from Copland's 1940 Our Town film score, to evoke the dozens of small "towns" within the big city. To close, one of Copland's last works, the rarely heard "In Evening Air," reminds us says Klein, "there are always pockets of peace and quiet beauty" in New York.

Jul 15, 2016 | GHOSTBUSTERS Original Motion Picture Score Available Now Digitally and On CD July 15

Music by Multi-Award Winning Composer Theodore Shapiro

Jul 15, 2016

NEW YORK, July 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Classical proudly announces the release of Ghostbusters (Original Motion Picture Score) to accompany Sony Pictures' highly anticipated feature film Ghostbusters, in theaters July 15. Featuring a score by multi-award winning composer Theodore Shapiro, the album is available now digitally and on CD July 15.

Theodore Shapiro saw Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 as a nine-year old boy, and afterwards was certain of two things: one - he wanted to be an archaeologist, and two - he couldn't stop thinking about the music. His plans to be an archaeologist eventually faded, but his interest in film composition did not. He went on to study music, write a musical about a cryogenically frozen head, and play in a neo-disco band called God at Brown University, and then received a Master's degree in composition from The Juilliard School. Following Juilliard he began both scoring films and writing commissions for the concert hall, including works performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, New York Chamber Symphony, and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

After scoring some notable independent films in New York, including Karyn Kusama's Girlfight, and David Mamet's Heist and State and Main, Shapiro was hired to score the hit comedy Old School for director Todd Phillips. He has since become one of Hollywood's most sought after composers.

His recent film work includes Spy, directed by Paul Feig and starring Melissa McCarthy; Trumbo, directed by Jay Roach and starring Bryan Cranston and Helen Mirren; The Intern, directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway; The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (for which he won an International Film Music Critics Award); Ted Melfi's directorial debut, St Vincent, starring Bill Murray; and Infinitely Polar Bear, starring Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana.  He was nominated for an Emmy for his score to the HBO film, Game Change. Other notable work includes the Ben Stiller-directed action-comedy Tropic Thunder; Marley and Me, directed by David Frankel and based on the best-selling novel; The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway; John Hamburg's bromance, I Love You, Man; and the Oscar-nominated animated film, The Pirates!  Band of Misfits.

Next up for Shapiro is Why Him? starring Bryan Cranston and James Franco.

When I think about Epic Records the first thing that comes to mind is Michael Jackson Thriller. An iconic artist with an iconic album and iconic logo. In short I'd like to thank all the people behind the scenes that helped make this partnership a reality. Bless up!” Referred to in the music industry as the “Quincy Jones of hip-hop & R&B,” Khaled has made dozens of chart topping hit records featuring collaborations with the greatest names in music. His most recent (eighth) studio album, I Changed A Lot (October 2015), entered the Billboard Independent Albums chart at #1 and R&B chart at #2. The album spun off a quintet of chart singles including “They Don't Love You No More,” “Hold You Down" (RIAA gold), “How Many Times” (RIAA gold), “Gold Slugs,” and “You Mine.” As one of the biggest personalities on social media, what separates Khaled from the pack is his globally viewed Snapchat account (@djkhaled305), with over 6+ million followers devoted to his inspirational and often whimsical quotes on achieving success in life. In homage to him, Khaled’s legion of worldwide fans are constantly creating short videos and posts on Snapchat as well as other social media platforms, including Instagram (where he has over 3+ million followers) and Twitter (with nearly 3 million followers). “His Snapchat is a renewable source of relentless positivity,” wrote Jon Caramanica in the New York Times, “a kind of choose-your-own adventure motivational talk. It succeeds in the space between laugh-with and laugh-at; he endlessly replays the same scenes and motifs, a Groundhog Day of braggadocio and encouragement. His catchphrases — ‘Another one,’ ‘Bless up,’ ‘They don’t want you to …’ – have become a lingua franca. He is now the foremost user of the key emoji, and, in his discussions of ‘major keys of success,’ has rescued that emoji from obscurity.” DJ Khaled released his debut, Listennn... the Album in 2006, coinciding with the launch of his independent label, We The Best. After establishing himself on a series of platinum-selling singles over the next two years (“We Takin' Over,” “I'm So Hood," “Out Here Grindin”), Khaled signed his first major distribution deal for We The Best with Def Jam in 2008, under Mr. Reid’s watch as then-Chairman. Khaled’s breakthrough was 2010’s 3x-platinum “All I Do Is Win” (from Victory), followed by “I'm On One” in 2011 (from We The Best Forever). To date, Khaled has sold over 15 million singles worldwide. We The Best Music Group, founded in 2006, comprises a record label, management company, publishing company, production company, and its own full-fledged studio.Read More »

Jun 11, 2015 | “New Music Fridays” Are Coming: Global Release Day Launches July 10

- An aligned single global release day for music takes effect on July 10 - Tracks and albums to be released at 12:01 AM on Fridays each week in over 45 countries  - Music fans will no longer have to wait for days to enjoy new releases   For music fans across the world, Fridays are set to become the day for newly-released music. July 10, 2015 will see the introduction of “New Music Fridays”, an aligned global release day for new music. The move, implemented by labels, retailers and artists internationally, means that fans in many countries will no longer have to wait for days to get access to newly-released tracks and albums. Up until now, music has been released on different days of the week in various countries - from Mondays in markets such as France and the UK, through Tuesdays in the US and Canada and to Fridays in markets such as Australia and Germany. That will change on July 10 when new music will be released on Fridays at 12:01 AM local time around the world. The move will mean fans can now get new music on the same day worldwide rather than having to wait for their own national release day. It puts an end to fans being unable to access music in their own country when it is legally available elsewhere, and the frustration that can cause. Think new music…Think Friday “New Music Fridays” are an opportunity for artists and labels to maximise awareness of newly-released music. Whatever country they are in, fans will now know – Friday is not just the start of the weekend - it’s the day for new music. This can help create more excitement and a sense of occasion around the release of new albums and singles. With just one month to go before “New Music Fridays” takes effect, today sees the unveiling of the “New Music Fridays” brand that will accompany the move. It will be available in more than 10 languages worldwide. Consumers looking for information on the switch to a Friday release day can visitwww.newmusicfridays.com which has all the details of the changes taking place. Switchover plan The preparations for the switchover to “New Music Fridays” have involved record companies, distributors and retailers working together to reconfigure their supply chains and marketing practices. At the same time, music charts in some countries are changing so that they align with the new international release day. The move to “New Music Fridays” will take place in more than 45 recorded music markets worldwide.. Of these, 11 countries currently release music on Fridays, while the others will switch the day that new albums and singles become available.
